Maddie Parker, a 16 year old girl who was born into a family of spies. She finally goes to school, meets her best friend Alice and her crush Jason but can she tell her friends the truth?
And what would the consequences be?

16. 16.

I get a call from Mr Kwali on Saturday asking me to come in. “So Miss Parker, it’s lovely to see you.”

“Sorry but what is this about?” I ask cautiously. “If this is about me going to see Mr Sutton,-”

“No it’s not. It’s actually about your recent social endeavours at your high school prom.” Wow, invasion of privacy much. Well, it’s not really privacy it was a school prom, everyone knew who was with who but isn’t there a rule about your boss asking about your personal life.

“I’m sorry?”

“You went to your high school prom with a…Jason Rivers, correct?”

“Yes. What does Jason have to do with my case?” Uh-oh, was I right about Jason being an undercover spy or something?

“Well he is the son of Mark Sutton who, if my information is correct, is the one who has been stealing our employee files.”

“No, Jason is the son of some guy called Mark Jackson. It’s Jackson not Sutton.” I say.

“Everyone has a fake name at some point Miss Parker. Mr Sutton used to work for us, as you know, and his fake ID was Mason Jackson. He, evidently, kept the surname so we wouldn’t detect him. It’s a fairly common surname. Although most ex-spies don’t use their fake ID’s to build a family.”

“I wouldn’t call it a family. Jackson bailed on them when Jason and his mum when he was only, like, 10; and it’s not him. Mark Sutton is not Jason’s dad.”

“Are you sure about that? Have you met Jason’s father then? Do have solid, undeniable proof that Mark Sutton is not Mr Rivers’ father?” I shake my head, “I didn’t think so, listen to my advice Miss Parker and stay away from him. He’s trouble.”

“Look, if Mr Sutton is Jason’s dad, and I'm not saying that he is, and he is an evil con artist then Jason isn’t one. Jason is a good, innocent guy and he has nothing to do with any spies or con artist or anything. He’s just a normal high school student. You’re wrong about him.”

“If you say so; but I still advise you stay away from him. He may be dangerous.” I roll my eyes and walk out. He has no right accusing Jason of anything, and Jason didn’t even recognise that Sutton guy when we had the meeting with him so he can’t be Jason’s dad.

He could’ve been faking.

Shut up! He wasn’t faking.

You should talk to him.

Shut up!

When I get home I message Jason saying we need to talk on Monday and then I just relax, watch all 5 Final Destination films and stay in bed for the rest of the weekend. I guess some people would say that I'm grieving something or trying to avoid life but there’s really nothing to avoid. Jason isn’t a spy, his dad isn’t a spy or an evil con artist and everything is perfectly normal…hopefully.
