Maddie Parker, a 16 year old girl who was born into a family of spies. She finally goes to school, meets her best friend Alice and her crush Jason but can she tell her friends the truth?
And what would the consequences be?

People lie. It’s in our human nature. We just…lie. To the people we love, to the people we hate, to our bosses, our colleagues. We make up excuses and say that it’s protecting them, but isn’t lying to them just hurting them more than what telling the truth would?

I lie to my friends. I have to, family obligations and all. Around my friends I’m just a normal teenage girl. 16 years old, make-up, boys, homework and parties but that’s only half of it. Around my family, I’m spy girl; perfect, code-cracking spy girl. Yep, you guessed it. My parents are spies and they passed the tradition onto me. I cracked my first code when I was 7, and that was when they started taking me on cases with them. My parent’s bosses took quite an interest in me after that and the training began. Every day I would spend 3 hours with my mentor Damien, an ex-spy, and we would talk through a million different things; how to be inconspicuous, how to lie without being detected and all of that.

There’s a whole training program before I can actually go on cases independently or at least without my parents, and with school I barely have time for a social life. I had to beg and beg and beg with my parents, and Damien, and their boss before they would even consider letting me and even when they did agree it was purely practical. There was a kid whose father was suspicious and it was my job to investigate. Befriend her, get invited to a party (or gate-crash) and snoop around her dad’s office. After that they just ended up keeping me in school, it was as close as I had come to a normal life. I got settled in, made friends, and got good grades. Every so often my parents ‘boss’ would ask me to investigate something or other and I would. Go to a party, cause a distraction, sneak off to get what I needed then bail. Once or twice it has ended in breaking into places and getting into trouble but nothing too serious.

Now, I’ve been at school for 3 years and I haven’t had any cases, independent or other for 3 months; until now and this is the story of how being a spy really ruined my life. Oh and my name is Maddie Parker
