How He Changed My Life

Love can cure anything. That's what I thought when my best friend, Sidney, got rid of her cold when she got a boyfriend. But when I got a boyfriend, nothing seemed different. Until Oli came along...

2. Chapter 2: When He Came Over

I smashed my book shut when I heard the doorbell ring. I opened up the door and there he was. Oli, holding his camera and keyboard, panda hat and all. He smiled at me, a silly smile, and I laughed. "Welcome to my home," I said. He walked in and sat down on the couch, leaving his stuff on the table.

"Nice," he sighed. "When should we get started? Now?" I nodded.

"Sure." I walked over to the table and picked up a sheet of paper. " 'Like I'm Gonna Lose You' by Meghan Trainor and John Legend. Really?"

"You don't like it?" Oli asked. "I think it's a great song. Not to fast, easy to sing in a duet..." He yawned and hugged one of my pillows.

"I mean, I love this song, I just didn't know that you liked it too," I said, looking at the notes and singing them in my head.

"Of course. Shall we get started or what?" He set up his keyboard and camera. "I need to upload this on my channel, obviously, but will you upload it on yours too?"

"Sure," I set up the sheet music, not like I needed it. But just in case. "I've never done a duet before."

"Oh, it's the same as singing it by yourself. Except it's like your singing along to the actual song," Oli said while reaching his hand up to record the song. "Three, two, one!" He pressed record and started to play the intro.

I was shaking, looking at the music, counting in my head, doing all that I could to impress him. When I had to sing, I closed my eyes and felt the music. I sang my heart out, thinking about the meaning of every word. When I finished, I opened my eyes and glanced at Oli. He looked surprised to see me sing like that, and honestly, I was surprised too. He sang his part, his unique voice ringing through my ears. We sang the song together, as one, pouring our hearts out. At the end, we sang the last line looking at each other and smiling. When Oli played the last note, I noticed that my heart was beating faster than usual. His eyes showed me so much that I couldn't understand. I saw love, passion, trust, kindness, all in his eyes.

I snapped out of it as he looked away. Did I just do that? I thought. When he looked at me again, his eyes were just friendly. Nothing more.

When he packed up and left, he gave me a chip. "That holds our song, all edited. Upload it to your channel." I thanked him and watched him go away. I walked back into the house and was greeted by my mother. "I see you're in love," she said

"No, I'm not. Remember Brad? My boyfriend? I still don't understand why you don't consider him as my boyfriend."

"Boyfriends don't cheat on their girlfriends."

"What are you talking about?" I asked, starting to get worried.

"Here." Mom took out her phone and showed me a picture of Brad kissing another girl.

"Who is that?!" I shouted.

"Lilly. Lilly Anderson. The 'popular' girl of your school." Mom sighed and went outside. "I'm getting a dog."

"A dog?"

We're adopting a dog."
