On The Edge

3. Apologies

As Sarah and I walked up the front steps, I felt a pain in my stomach.

"I can't do this." I muttered.

"Mason, you'll feel better if you talk to her." She said.

"Or worse!" I shouted.

"It depends on how this goes." Sarah sighed.
I slowly knocked on the door and stepped back.

Harmony answered the door. The bags under her eyes were dark, and her usual smile was replaced by a frown. Her face wasn't youthful anymore, instead, wrinkles covered her face. Her hair was shorter than I remember, and the blonde has faded into a brownish color.

"Harmony?" I asked.

"Mason, get out." She growled.

"Look, I came to patch things up, not make them worse." I said.

"It's too late for that." She barely managed to squeeze the words out of her mouth.

"Harmony, I'm sorry."

"I hate you!" She screamed and slammed the door.

Sarah and I walked away in silence. After a while of walking in silence, Sarah broke the ice.

"Why didn't you say anything about how she looked?" Sarah asked.

"Yes. I totally should have. 'Hi Harmony! I just came to say sorry and ask what's up with your face.'" I said sarcastically.
