Sam got out of his chair then went to his room to retrieve the book.

After an hour of French which Nancy only had to correct him a few times on the pronunciation? Nancy made him learn some French vowels.

“In English we say A,E,I,O,U. in French they say A,E,I,U,Y. with combined letters that they call (orthographic ligatures) these are AE, and OE. These are what are known as hard and soft vowels. The soft ones contain the letters C,G, and S

Nasal vowels contain the letters M ands N.

Sam was writing this down as she spoke.

Now copy these verbs down I sing – you sing- they sing- he sings – and she sings’

“In French Sam the verbs have six conjugations and a different one for each grammatical person.’

So they would say. Chanter- je chante- tu chantes- il chante-nous chantons- vous chantes- ils chantent.

Now it looks complicated doesn’t it but once you grasp this you will be fine. I want you to learn all these vowels and verbs.’

So next time I come you will have learnt them off by heart.’

“Thank you said Sam.’

“It was funny when I first started to learn French; I actually had dreams in French. I was talking to people in my dreams in French; it was amazing.’

“I had my first dream last night, I dreamt that I was in Marseilles in some market but it was so real; it had chateaus and cobbled streets and the market sold everything from live chicken to mixed spices. I even have a name for my first restaurant.

“What is it?’

“La grande maison.’

“Which is, asked Nancy?’

“The big house, is that right?’

“Oui- Yes That’s correct.’

Sam heard Tom come in and poured him a cup of tea and refilled Nancy’s.’

“So wor kid how did your first French lesson go.’

“Great, Nancy is a good teacher.’

“Yes, I know that said Tom blushing remembering how she had taught him some sexual techniques last night.’

“Happy Birthday Tom said Sam as he brought out a card that he’d made himself.’

“I nearly forgot said Nancy as she took a birthday card out of her bag and a wrapped up present.’

“It’s a book that you might find useful.’

“He quickly opened his present and smiled; it was the complete guide to agriculture.’

“He bent down and kissed Nancy.’

“I have a present too said Sam; he went to the cupboard and brought out a cake that he’d made with sixteen candles on the top. He took the matches then lit them and asked his brother to blow them out and to make a wish.
