15. Chapter 13- Viv- Action!

Felicity, Natty, Ever and I were sitting in a room, waiting for Georgia. The room was extremely boring. The walls were an ugly pinkish-brown, and there were twenty-year-old insurance brochures to look at. The walls were blank.

I looked over at Ever. For once, she'd shown up on time, but she was also nervous for the first time.

"You okay?" I asked her.

Ever shrugged. "I just... I'm just wondering who the other band will be." Ever sighed.

"Hey, hey, hey," I said. "It's not like they can revoke our reward."

Ever sighed again.

"So? What's bad about that?"

Ever drew in a breath and didn't let it out.

Suddenly I understood. "Ah, I see. You are afraid that Luke will like them more than you. Well, I say that you shouldn't worry a bit. If he really likes you, then he won't mess with them, even for an interview. Plus, they're only the opening act for day after tomorrow's concert. They'll leave after that."

Ever looked calmed.

Georgia stomped into the room. "Girls, your stylist are ready," she said.

"Stylists?" I said.

I heard Ever mumble behind me. "Here we go again."

"Yes, stylists. You're famous now. You can't be expected to dress yourselves."

We stood behind a curtain, waiting for the host to tell us to come out. The boys stood on the other side, and behind them, there were some people that I couldn't make out the faces of.

"And we are on," said the cameraman in a low voice.

I heard looked at the screen above me. "Talk to Me- Live!"I, it read.

The cameraman gave a thumbs up, the studio audience cheered and clapped, and the host, a tall man in a suit and tie with brown hair and a short haircut, stood up.

"Good evening!" said the host. "And welcome to Talk to Me- Live, with me, your host, Jordan Smith!"

The audience clapped.

"I've for a real treat for you today!" said Jordan.

"WHO IS IT?" chanted the audience.

Georgia tapped Natty on the back- the sign to go out.

Natty pasted on a smile and marched out, us following. The audience cheered, whistled, and clapped. We sat down on one of three couches, the one that was furthest to the right.

"But wait, there's more!" said Jordan.

The audience went wild as 5SOS walked out. They sat on the couch in the middle.

"And more!" said Jordan.

The audience cheered even louder as the next band walked out. Their faces looked familiar. They sat on the couch on the far left.

"As you can see, my guests are special. We have Never Enough, the winners of the 5SOS contest!" Jordan said, gesturing towards us and stopping to let the audience cheer for us. "5 Seconds of Summer themselves!........And Fight All Night, the second place winners in the contest!" said Jordan.

"Oh, man, I've got to watch this. I have to!" said Sissy, running over to the television. Luke pressed the replay button.

The theme played, and then the title of the show showed up.

"Good evening! And welcome to Talk to Me- Live! with me, your host, Jordan Smith!"

"I've got a real treat for you today!"

We entered from the right and sat down. Applause.

"But wait, there's more!"

5SOS entered from the left and sat in the middle. Applause.

"And more!"

Fight All Night sat down on the left. Applause.

"As you can see, my guests are special. We have Never Enough, the winners of 5SOS contest!"

"5 Seconds of Summer themselves!"

"And Fight All Night, the second place winners of the contest!"

Applause and a small gasp artfully disguised as a cough from me.

"Welcome to Talk to Me- Live!, everyone!" said Jordan.

"It's great to be here, Jordan," said Natty.

"Same here," said someone from Fight All Night.

"Agreed," said Calum.

"Okay, so we'll go around and you say your name," said Jordan. He turned to the audience. "For those who haven't been watching your every step!"
Creepy, I thought,

Felicity, who was on the end, was handed the mic. "Hey, I'm Felicity, the bass guitar of Never Enough."

She passed the mic to Ever. "Hey, I'm Ever, lead singer of Never Enough."

Passed to me. "Hello, I'm Vivian."

I passed it to Natty. She looked at me. "Wait, just Vivian?"

I chucked and improvised. "Sure. Nothin' sticks in your head better."

Laugh from the audience.

"Okay, then, Miss Vivian. My name is Nathilia, and I am drummer of Never Enough. Oh, and Viv's lead guitar."

She passed the mic to Natty, and I saw that she deliberately held Ashton's hand for a second before letting the mic go.

"Hey, I'm Ashton, drummer of 5 Seconds of Summer."

Passed to Michael. "Hey, I'm Michael, bass guitarist of 5 Seconds of Summer."

Passed to Luke. "Hey, I'm Luke, and I'm versatile."

Laugh from the audience.

Passed to Calum. "Hey, I'm Calum, and I'm with Luke."

Laugh from audience.

They passed it to the first person on the Fight All Night couch. "Hey, I'm Lauren, lead guitarist of Fight All Night."

Passed to the next girl. "Hey, I'm Clarice, lead singer of Fight All Night."

Passed to the next girl. "Hey, I'm Missy, drummer of Fight All Night."

Passed to the last girl. "Hey, I'm Elane, bass guitarist of Fight All Night."

She handed the mic back to Jordan. Jordan sat in a fancy office chair and rolled over to them.

"So, Lauren, why did you girls want to win this contest?" he asked.

Lauren looked over at the boys, then at her girls. "We just wanted to see our amazing cousins again!" she said.

Jordan turned to the boys. "These girls are your cousins?"

The boys nodded. "Yep, and they're equally talented," said Calum. "Lauren's my fifth cousin, Clarice is Luke's second, Missy is Ashton's third cousin, and Elane is Michael's third."

In the background, you could see Ever's face break into a smile as she realized that she wouldn't have competition for the guys, but it fell again when she realized that the girls would be still competition for the best.

Jordan laughed. He rolled over to us. "So, Vivian, what made YOU GIRLS want to join?"

I smiled at the rest of the girls then at Jordan. "What wouldn't make us want to win? I mean, hot boys, free food, and all of the fun I could ever hope for and more. Not to mention the concerts, the dressing rooms, and our new accommodations!"

The audience laughed.

"You seem to be quite the optimist, Vivian!"

"I try to be."

He rolled over to Ashton. "So, Ashton, do you think that this competition's winners deserved it?"

Ashton grinned. "More than anyone else- sorry about that, Missy."

Missy smiled. "No, no, I agree completely."

He rolled over to Ever. "Has anything INTERESTING happened?"

Ever smiled an evil smile at Luke, then at me and Calum. I realized what she was about to mention. "Yes, yes, of course. We caught Calum and Vivian-"

I grabbed the mic and put my hand over . "That is classified information!"

Jordan chortled. "Okay, anything else interesting happened?"

Ever chuckled. "Yes, Natty has been having caffeine overloads and not sleeping at night. She has this gigantic coffee cup that I think holds at least a gallon of coffee."

Jordan raised his eyebrows at Natty. She nodded.

Jordan rolled back over to the girls of the other band. "What do you think that you could've done different that would've made you girls win the contest?"

Elane smiled. "Nothing, these girls are raw talents, and that's it."

Jordan turned to the camera. "Well, everyone, I think our time is up! We'll be right back with the next segment with the newest food star."

Everyone clapped and it faded to commercials.

Felicity pressed the stop button. "That was great!" she said.

"Agreed," said Lauren.

Felicity walked up to Georgia, the rest of us following. "What do we do next?"

Georgia looked at the paper. "You don't have anything on the itinerary. You're free."

Felicity turned back to us. "We need-"

"-To practice," said Natty.

"I can't believe that Ever is with Luke now!" Natty sighed. "Seriously, I hate that girl."

She and I were sitting in the food court at the hotel. Felicity was across the food court, eating with Michael.

"Calm down, no you don't," I said.

"Yes, I do. She is so annoying. She's just...urgh!" Natty said. I understood that she was under stress, but acting like that? Why did she suddenly change?

"Natty, calm it down. I'll get you a cup of coffee. Calm down," I said. I walked up to the counter and returned.

I gave her the coffee. "Ever is an idiot," she said.

She kept rambling for another hour until Ever showed up with Luke and we went to practice.

All of us Never Enough girls and 5SOS were sitting in one practice room, working on the finale. The girls were in the one next door.

We were halfway through the song when Ever's phone alarm went off. "Eight o'clock," said Ever. She looked over at Luke and mouthed, We need to go. Luke nodded.

At the same time, Felicity had pushed open the door, Michael following, and Ashton and Natty were going out the other door. Calum and I were the only ones left in the center of the room, and the others were halfway out.

They think that that is more important. The boys are more important. Than me. Than this band, I thought angrily. It just tore me up. I hated it. They were letting the boys change them.

"WAIT!" I yelled. Everyone spun around and looked at me. "Get back in here." No one moved. "Now," I growled.

I was mad. Angry. For the first time ever, I hated them and the three boys.

"What do you want?" said Ever.

I turned to her, then gestured at the other girls. "Look at us! You said that you'd never, ever let boys control you, but LOOK!" I said. I turned back to Ever. "Ever, you disappear for DAYS at a time with Luke, only returning to eat and practice and sleep, and sometimes you don't even show up for those things! And Natty! Being a gossip and being rude to Ever and skipping sleeping to meet with Ashton, and being so mean to Felicity just because she did something that she didn't run by you first... and don't even get me started on you, Felicity! Dying your hair, getting pierced and tattooed, ignoring your sister who's tried so hard to help us (no matter how mean she is), trying to get the attention of Michael, even if it meant putting off practice. I can't believe us! We were never so far away from each other!"

Everyone was speechless, even the guys, who were in the background.

Finally Sissy spoke up. "But what about you and Calum?"

"We're friends. Friends, just like us girls used to be. Calum and I are friends, nothing more."

I turned around and walked out of the room.

I found my hotel room and sat in the floor, holding in tears. What did I just do?

A knock came at my door. I turned. A smiling Calum popped his head in. "Mind if I come in?"

I shook my head. He walked in the door and shut it behind him.

"What's up, Viv?" he asked.

"Just staring at a wall, thinking about what I said."

"No, like, why'd you chew them out like that? I know that you're mad, but why? Jealous?"

"Huh?" Was I jealous? "Uh....."

"Yes." He chuckled. "So what're you jealous about, Viv?"

I stood up and sat on the bed. Calum came and sat beside me.

"I don't know, they just seem..."

Suddenly memories of the girls flooded my head. Memories of playing by the beach when we were seven, all laughing. Of us trashing the other contestants when we failed at the talent show. Of us crying when Natty got into a wreck. Of our fights and make-ups.

And now of how we had all changed.

It was too much. I let the tears flow. I lay my head on Calum's shoulder.

"What's wrong?" he asked, concerned.

"It's just...they've all changed to suit the boys. Now they've changed so much that we barely know each other. We have always be so close. Now I think that...."- I paused and sobbed a little-"...that we won't last. That...that I'll lose them."

Calum just sat there, listening, thinking. He placed his arm around me and rested his head on mine.

He spoke suddenly. "Viv, I'm glad that you haven't changed to please me. I like you just the way you are. You are wonderful. If the girls don't like you, then they're bi-"

"I know." I laughed. "Well, I mean, they are anyways, but....but they've been there forever."

Calum lifted his head and pushed me off. He looked me in the eyes. He was serious. "Viv, I'll be here. You don't need to worry about me leaving. I'll be here. You can call me any time, even when you're gone from here and you're back at your home. I'll be here."

"Thanks, Cal. It means a lot." I stood up. "I've got to go apologize."

I hugged him. Calum gave me a crooked smile.

I was hallway down the hallway when I heard a call behind me.

"Vivian!" It was Calum. He was standing by a wall, motioning for me to come to him.

I walked back and leaned on the part of the wall beside him. "What is it, Cal?" I asked him.

He put one hand on the wall beside me, and another on the other side of the wall beside me, trapping me.

"Come closer," he said. "I need to tell you something that no one can hear."

Suddenly, his hands closed and grabbed me, draping me on his arms. He bent closer and whispered to me. "Here it is."

He closed his eyes and moved closer to me. Our lips made contact.

It was strange. I'd never had an actual kiss. The creepy dude at the concert didn't count. This one was slow, sweet, and strong.

This was what he was hinting at. He wanted to be more than friends.

And even though I would usually have hated this, I was fine with it now.

When he pulled back, it felt like it was too early. I looked him in the eyes. They were beautiful.

I smiled. "We should do that more often."

"Agreed." He grinned and kissed me again. It was even better than the last time.

He pulled back and smiled. "I guess that this makes it official," he said, and gave me a quick kiss.

"What?" I asked.

"That you're my girlfriend."

I smiled. I'd been asked out before, but, for the first time, I was fine with it. Actually, I was more than fine with it.

I kissed him back deeply.

So much for not letting a boy change you, Viv.
