1. Chapter 1

Wednesday May 16, 2012

“So, here we are.” I said to myself as I parked my car in front of my new home.

After about five hours of driving I was finally in London, finally away from home and ready to start a new life, leaving everything behind.
I stepped out of my car and stretched, smiling to myself and feeling the cold breeze before reaching for my laptop bag and Cat’s carrier and heading up to the front door.

When I walked inside I was happy to see a lovely place with white walls and wooden floors. Even though it had no furniture and it was quite dirty, I loved it already, it had the perfect size, it was lovely and I was looking forward to clean it, buy furniture and make it homey. There was a good sized kitchen, a possibly dining room to the right, a living room with a fireplace on it to the left, and in front of the entrance was a hallway that led to the bathroom and the stairs.

“Thanks grandma.” I smiled.

About five years ago my grandmom decided to move to America, and instead of selling her apartment she told me she will gave it to me because she knew I wanted to move to London some day.

I set my things and Cat’s carrier on the soon-to-be living room and walked back to my car to get the box with Cat’s stuff.

“Come on Cat, let’s get you some water.” I said to my orange kitten as I took her out of her carrier. I grabbed her water and food bowls and a bag of food from the box, and quickly filled the bowls with water and food.

As Cat was stretching and having some water I looked around at the empty living room, thinking how I wanted it to look. Probably light purple walls, a white couch, my vinyl records and record player by the wall next to the hall, a fish tank, plants on the corner, I don't know, there were many possibilities. Damn there was a lot to do and I wanted it to be done on Sunday. I took a notebook from my bag and started listing essentials I needed to buy, filling two whole pages.

Two hours later, I left Cat in the living room with her toys, food and water and walked to my car to unload the cardboard boxes in my car. It was starting to get dark and I wanted to get everything inside today and I wanted to go buy some toiletries and food.

About five light boxes and my suitcases were already inside and I was now struggling with the heavy boxes. I nearly lost my balance when I was lifting one with the word ‘Vinyl Records’ written across it out of my car but felt strong arms around me helping me regain my balance. I looked up and met a beautiful pair of green eyes and curly hair.

“You okay?” He asked. I could tell he was trying really hard to hold back the laughter that wanted to come out. I felt my cheeks flush red.

“Yeah. Thank you.” I said smiling and adjusting the grip on the box.

“Here, let me help you.” He said taking the box from me before I could say anything.

“Oh thanks.” I smiled and picked up another box.

“Wow, this one is a bit heavy.” He laughed. “What’s in here?”

“Vinyl records.”

“Really? That’s incredible! Do you have anything to play them with?” I chuckled.

“Of course I do. My record player is already inside.” I smiled. “I’m Jane, by the way.”

“That’s a pretty name.” He smiled, showing off his cute dimples. “I’m Harry. I live next door.” He said pointing at the apartment next to mine.

“Really? Then I guess we will see each other around a lot.” I smiled.

We walked into my apartment and I left the box in the living room, Harry followed my actions and placed the heavy box carefully next to mine.

“Nice place.” He said looking around. “Where’s the furniture?”

"I don’t have any yet.” I said shyly walking out to my car again, grabbing another box and Harry doing the same.

“You don’t have any furniture? Where are you going to sleep?”

“I have a sleeping bag.” I smiled.

“A sleeping bag? Seriously?”

“Yeah, I’ll go buy a bed and stuff tomorrow. It's a bit late now.” I said look at my watch.

“What about food?” He said looking at the empty kitchen.

“I bet there’s a place that delivers food. Pizza, maybe.”

“But it's your first day in London. You shouldn't be eating takeout.”

“I don't mind really.” He looked at me with a smirk.

“But I do. How about I take you out to dinner tonight?”

“You don’t have to do that.”

“But I want to.” He looked me in the eyes and smiled. “As a welcome gift.”

“Alright. That's really sweet from you. Thanks.” I smiled.

Harry was walking next to me to go get out another box but suddenly stopped, smiling at Cat who was sleeping on her bed near the kitchen.

“Who is this cute little thing?” He asked smiling, pulling Cat to his chest and cuddling her. He looked like a little boy as he talked to my kitten and stroked her belly.

“Her name is Cat.” I said scratching underneath Cat’s chin.

“Shut up.” I laughed.

“She’s so cute.” He smiled. “All right cute little thing.” He said to Cat. “I have to help Jane with the rest of the cardboard boxes.” He said putting her down and walking out with me.

“So tell me about you. Where are you from?” He asked.

“I thought I heard a Scottish accent!” Harry said excitingly. “Scottish accents are hot.” He said winking at me. I blushed and smiled, walking back to my car.

“And what are you doing in London?”

“I wanted to go somewhere nice. Get away from everything, you know?”

“So you came to London?” He asked, raising an eyebrow.

“Yeah.” I laughed. “I think London is lovely.”

“You will love it here I promise.” He smiled.Harry and I continued unloading everything from my car, talking about everything and nothing the entire time. I felt really comfortable with him, he was really nice and I must say he was really cute.

“Thank you so much for being so nice and for helping me, Harry. You are really sweet.” I saw him smile and blush little.

“It was my pleasure. Not everyday you get a beautiful foreign girl as a neighbour. And you know I can show you around England, well I mean- you know London. I mean only of you want to I mean I- you don't-” I laughed slightly at his rambling, it was adorable. “Damn I'm just rambling.” He laughed nervously. “I don’t usually ramble on about things I just- I mean you are pretty. I'm going to shut up now. Shall we go?” He asked, offering his arm.

“We shall.” I said smiling as I took his arm. I closed the door behind me, making sure that it locked and walked with Harry to his car.

“Would you like Italian food?” Harry asked as he started the car.

“Yes I love Italian food.” I said excited and then we took off.

During the 10 minute car ride we had some small talk. He told me about the places I needed to see here in London, some restaurants, museums, and other and promised me to take me there and I told him about my favourite places in Scotland, and my favourites in Ireland, places where I liked to spend time by myself just reading a book or looking up at the clouds.

When we pulled up to the restaurant and parked he got out of his side quickly and opened the door for me to get out and took my hand to help me out.

Harry's large hand was on my back the whole time as we walked into the restaurant. We walked along quietly, getting a few stares, which was quite weird and then I saw camera flash that didn't know where it came from.

“What was that?”

“Shit.” I heard him mutter. “Table for two please.” Harry said to the waitress.

“Of course. This way Mr. Styles.” The waitress walked us to our table, and as I we did I looked around at the restaurant, it was a really nice and lovely place with dark red walls.

“So, you are a leprechaun?” Harry asked grinning after the waitress had walked away to get our drinks, Coke for me and Sprite for Harry.

“Oh yeah very funny Mr. Styles.” I placed my menu in front of me. “I'm a little leprechaun.” I said frowning. “Have you always lived in London?” He smiled and placed his menu in front him just like me.

“No, I grew up in Cheshire. It's about two hours away from here. Cute town.”

“Do you go back often?”

“Not as much as I should but I try to.” I looked up from my menu to him and smiled sweetly at him. He looked up and caught me stating at him with a silly smile on my face. I looked down at my menu and started to fidget with it, pretending to read it.

The waitress came up seconds later asking for our orders. I looked down at my menu once again. I really needed to figure out what I was going to order.

“What can I get for you?” The waitress asked sweetly. She was an old lady.

“I don't know.” Harry glanced over his menu and looked at me.

“Would you like to share a pizza? We can order a large one.” I looked down at my menu and pretended to read it.

“Yes sure. Pepperoni?”

The waitress left after taking our order and Harry started asking about my plans for getting started in my new apartment. I told him I made a list of things that I needed as soon as possible and things that could wait and that I was planning on going to ikea tomorrow to get a bed and kitchen stuff which where the most important things right now.

“I can help you with that.” He said smiling. “I mean if you want to. I can take you tomorrow morning to ikea and just go crazy buying stuff.” I laughed and thanked him.

The dinner was amazing, the pizza was so delicious and Harry's company was lovely. When the waitress dropped off the bill I took out my wallet to pay my half but Harry stopped me.

“What are you doing? I'm not letting you pay, love.”

“Harry I can pay for myself.”

“But I'm not letting you pay. This is on me. End of story.”

“Fine.” I said rolling my eyes. “But I'll get it next time.”

We walked back to the car talking and laughing about little things. It was getting late and we will have a long day tomorrow doing shopping and unpacking so we decided to go back to our apartments.

The car ride home was filled with laughter and singing Katy Perry's Teenage Dream at the local radio station.

“You make me feel like I'm living a teenage dream.” I sang along a little louder. When the chorus ended I looked up to see Harry smirking at me. “Damn this is embarrassing.”

“You have a beautiful voice.”

“Hey don't make fun of me.”

“I'm not, I'm serious.” He laughed.

“Thanks.” I said laughing nervously as another song started playing. 'You're insecure, don't know what for . Being the way that you are is enough.'

“Catchy song.” I said.

“Baby you light up my world like nobody else. The way that you flip your hair gets me overwhelmed.” Harry started singing really loud, it was adorable. “But when you smile at the ground ain't hard to tell.”

“You don't know oh oh. You don't know you're beautiful!” I joined him. Harry singed and I mostly laughed for the rest of the song.

“That was One Direction's hit What Makes You Beautiful!” The radio man said ad Harry parked the car in front of our apartments. “Remember-” Harry turned off the car and quickly climbed out of the car to open my door for me.

“Thank you.” I said as I took his hand and climbed out of the car. He walked me to my door and smiled. He was so cute and was really sweet.“Harry it was lovely. Thanks for dinner.” I said giving him a goodbye hug.

“You’re welcome.” He hugged me back and gave me a sweet kiss on my check.

“I’ll see you tomorrow.” I said blushing and turning around to open the door.

“Wait, Jane.” He said holding my hand. I turned around and looked at him. “You don’t have any furniture, and I have a bed and furniture and all that sort of thing so you can stay in my flat for the night you know.” He said scratching the back of his head.

“I’m okay you don’t have to do this and I have a sleeping bag, remember?” I said walking inside.

“No way. I’m not letting you sleep in an uncomfortable sleeping bag.”

“They are not-”

“Come on, it will be fun. We can watch movies, eat ice cream and all.” I thought about it for a minute.

I met Harry a few hours ago, I shouldn't do this. But he is very nice and sweet and I feel comfortable with him, and my apartment was a bit dirty. This should be fun. I looked up at Harry who was looking at me with a cute smirk on his face, his dimples showing.

“Can I bring Cat?”

“Of course.”

“Then fine.” I smiled.

“Great. Now go get some pyjamas and let’s go.”

“Ok umm…” I said looking at my suitcases. “I have no idea where they are.” I laughed. “Why don’t you take Cat with you and I’ll see you there?”

“Alright.” I gave him Cat’s bed and food, and Cat. “Come on Cat.” He smiled walking out with Cat.

I looked through my suitcases and boxes for about 10 minutes before I found what I needed. I took a bag and threw some pyjamas, toothbrush, deodorant, makeup remover and make up, and some extra clothes to use tomorrow into it.

I made my way out of my apartment, making sure to lock the door behind me and walked over to Harry’s. The door opened instantly, revealing a smiling Harry.

“Hello Jane. Come on in.” He stepped aside, allowing me to walk into his apartment.

“Hi.” I said shyly, walking in.
