17. Happy Endings

Ever since Mr. Baby Tutu's death, Morgan had been wondering what Superquack had to tell her that was so important.

At 8:00, Morgan drove to Sushi Ya and went inside. She told the lady at the front desk that she was here with a friend. The lady approved and told her to proceed.

Inside the main room she found Superquack already at a table. She sat down with him.

"I've already paid for our food," said Superquack.

"What was your question?" Morgan asked, eyeing her master with a closed smile.

"Morgan. Will you...will you..." Superquack stuttered. "Will--will you marry me?"

Morgan looked into the distance, deep in thought...then leaped across the table and gave Superquack a big hug. "Of course I will! You know what? I was really hoping you'd ask!"

At home, Morgan used the tracking technology she had embedded in Superquack's suit to locate all the dead Supers. She made a list with all the Supers and their locations, then went around the world bringing all the Supers back to life. Superman, Dynaguy, Superwoman, Psylange--they were all checked off.

A week later, Superquack drove to the wedding, dressed in a tuxedo. He was a few minutes late getting out the door, but he could not care less. He was listening to the radio on his way to the temple, when suddenly--

"We interrupt for an important bulletin!" a voice said over the radio. "A bus robbery just happened on Center Street."

A bus robbery? Superquack thought. Nah. All the Supers are back. Surely they can handle it. He finished the trip and arrived at the temple.

"You're late," said Macroburst when Superquack opened the doors.

Superquack started fumbling with his bow-tie. "How do I look? Good?"

Macroburst nodded his approval. "Good."

Superquack took a deep breath before opening the doors. Then he took a step down the aisle of the large room and turned. Macorburst, his best man, was following him. Contented, Superquack finished his walk to the front, where his bride was waiting. The wedding ceremony began.

"...Superquack, wilt thou have this woman to be thy wedded wife, to live in God's ordinance..." The holy man, who happened to be Superman, was halfway through the written speech when Morgan whispered to Superquack. "You're late. Did you forget?"

Superquack shook his head. "You need to be a little more... active," he replied, quoting his bride from several months back, where they hardly knew each other.

"I love you," Morgan replied.

"Quiet," Superquack whispered.

"Morgan, wilt thou have this man to thy wedded husband, to live after God's ordinances in the holy law of matrimony?" Superman continued.

"I will," said Morgan. A few more lines, and the ceremony was over. Superquack took Morgan in his arms.

"For all eternity," Morgan promised. "No matter what."

"Get used to it," Superquack replied, slightly louder. "We're superheroes. Something always happens."

Three months later, Superquack and Morgan attended the local Superhero race. Super speed was prohibited. Mr. Tutusymbol, their adopted son, followed them there and headed up into the grandstands.

Mr. Tutusymbol cheered them on. All of them gave it their best, but Superquack finished a triumphant first. Batman finished second, and Morgan finished third. Mr. Tutusymbol couldn't have been prouder.

As they all headed home, a sudden rumble began to shake the parking lot. The ground swelled and then violently broke apart as a massive drilling machine surfaced. Dramatically, a chunky villain with two mechonhands emerged, towered above the city on a platform, and shouted, "Behold the Wicked Tutu! I am always above you, but nothing is above me! Many drills like this are to emerge!"

The Wicked Tutu continued to monologue as Superquack looked over at Mr. Tutusymbol and Morgan. This one is going to be easy, thought Superquack as he charged. The Supers were ready!
