1. Swimming

When I dive in, the cold water rushes around my ears,

I open my eyes against the chlorine and look around.

Everything looks different: wavy,

Like seaweed in the sea.

I start swimming slowly to warm up,

No need to rush.

My path clears,

And I make myself a lane at the edge of the pool.

Stroke after stroke,

Lap after lap.

My worries melt away,

As do my fears.

All I feel is water,

Water, all around.

An hour later my energy's gone,

With the day.

I walk home in twilight,

Ready for bed.

Then tomorrow,

Another day awaits.
