Too Close to the Enemy

He thinks he's cool for breaking all those girl's hearts.

I won't be one of them

even if he's hard to resist...

18. "I'm interested in helping you."

Michael's POV:

"Who's Rudy Cray?" Luke asked us as we drove home. Visiting hours were over so we left. We were heading to Luke's place to stay for the night, sure as hell not going school tomorrow.

"He- he was the reason o- of my father's death." Alex told Luke, who was sitting in the passenger seat behind us.

"I'm so sure he planned this." I said, clenching my jaw tight.

The night was dark and it started to rain too. I still can't believe this is happening. Oh that son of a bitch was going to die. Suddenly, Alexis started crying again, I wouldn't blame her.

"What did we do? What did any of us do to build a hatred between us?" She cried out. She rested her head against the seat and closed her eyes. "Did she even deserve to die?"

I parked the car into Luke's driveway as we started getting out. I noticed that Alex decided to stay inside.

"Could I have a minute alone? I won't wreck your car don't worry." She asked, realising I was waiting for her. I nodded and joined Luke inside.

Luke sighed and put his hand through his hair in stress.

"She won't get over this, not for a long time." I started explaining to him. He looked at me, asking for more information. "It took her around a year to completely become like she was before her father died."

"So, are we reporting this Rudy guy to the police?" Luke asked.

"I'm afraid we have to. I'm not letting this go, and it'll make us all satisfied." Luke looked down. "I'm sorry dude. Looks like life's getting a bit more serious. We're chasing that dickhead down."

"But Michael, there's something more important we need to remember." Luke started.

"What's that?" I asked, curious.

"Suicide and Alex. I know she's tried it before. I listen to all the rumours. Plus, I've seen her scars. We need to take care of her and give her love."

"You're right."

Alex walked inside, wiping away her tears. She looked up at us and ran, dragging us into a group hug.

"It'll be fine, I promise you." Luke whispered, kissing her head in between.

"We're going to the police station tomorrow." She informed us as we broke apart.

"Oh, we already know. We're not leaving that jerk's ass alone!" I replied. She gave me a smile and rested her head on my chest.

"We're gonna do everything we can to put that jerk in jail." she whispered.

"I'll put myself in jail by taking his life if I have to." Luke said. Alex looked up at him. "I really will. I love you too much to not do that." Luke smiled at her and opened his arms for a hug.

Alexis' POV:

The next morning, I woke up at 9. Luke and Michael had insisted that I slept on the bed while they slept on Luke's extra long couch, so I kind of slept well. But the truth never got out of my mind. She was... dead.

I looked over to the couch where the boys were sleeping and quietly chuckled. Luke's head was rested on Michael's chest, who's arm was on Luke's butt. I quickly took a picture and sent it to the groupchat. I captioned it, "Relationship goals". They both soon got up and awkwardly pushed each other away as I giggled.

I wasn't in the mood to shower so I left it. I went downstairs to have breakfast. I heard Luke and Michael follow me.

"Um, Alex... I haven't stocked up remember. I was going to yesterday but..." Luke interrupted as I searched for cereals.

"Oh... yeah." I felt guilty for some reason so I looked down.

"Hey, we can have breakfast from outside why not?" Michael suggested. Luke and I agreed as we decided to go to The Burrito Co.

"Alex, can you sit in the back with me please?" Luke asked as we walked to the car. I nodded and became confused when Michael gave me a smirk. Luke sat on the left side and I sat in the middle. Michael started the engine and drove out of Luke's highway. Michael put the radio on and turned the volume low, just so he could hear it.

"I won't let anyone do anything to you, okay?" Luke whispered to me as he stared right into my eyes.

"Okay." I whispered back. He leaned closer to me and let his lips touch mine. His tongue brushed my bottom lip for entrance as I accepted. Our tongues fighted for dominance, though Luke won. He grabbed my hips and sat me on top of him. Adrenaline was rushing through my body.

"Ewww guys, I can hear the vibrations of your lips stop!" Michael exclaimed sarcastically. Luke and I abruptly broke apart and all three of us laughed. I got of Luke's lap and kissed his cheek.

We arrived at The Burrito Co. and sat down in a secluded corner. A waiter brought us 3 menus and told us to call him when we were ready to order. He had quiffed, brown hair and green eyes. He must've been in his mid-twenties.

"I'm having the usual, Smoky Barbecue." I said.

"Same." Luke said blankly.

"Okay... I'll have the Cheese Melt." Michael decided, scanning the menu carefully. We called over the waiter.

"So, could we have two Smoky Barbecues and one Cheese Melt please?" Michael asked.

"Of course, would you like it in meals or just seperate?" The waiter asked kindly.

"Meals please."

"And what drinks would you like?"

"Three waters please."

"Okay." The waiter ended with a smile and walked away.

Luke came closer to me and whispered, "I'm trusting you on the taste of this burrito." I laughed and rolled my eyes.

"You'll like it don't worry."

After five minutes, our food came and we tucked in.

By 11:30am, we had left The Burrito Co. and headed to the hospital first. When we arrived, we walked to Room 12. Before I walked in, I braced myself, tears had started dwelling in my eyes again. I went inside to feel the nasty, cold air, surrounding me fast. My mother was there, exactly in the same spot as yesterday. The same doctor from the night before turned around to see us.

"Miss Brian." He greeted me with a nod.

"Doctor Foster." I greeted him back.

"Current news, Miss Brian, is that your mother's body will have to be taken by next week so if-"

"Doctor I need your help." I interrupted him.

"Yes, Miss Brian?" He asked formally with confusion.

"I want to take this case to court. Mr Rudy Cray is a murderer."

"Do you have any official evidence?"

"Well not really... but he was the reason of my dad's death."

"Miss Brian, please join me in my office, I can take all of this into account there. I'm interested in helping you." He walked us all out with a smile.
