Too Close to the Enemy

He thinks he's cool for breaking all those girl's hearts.

I won't be one of them

even if he's hard to resist...

10. Alyssa and Playful Revenge

Luke's POV:

The three of us walked into school without a care of anyone watching us... well, until we saw Alex's friend Alyssa. She was confused as to why I was with her. Alex probably hadn't told her about what had happened yet. Alyssa yanked Alex out of my grip, indicating her way of excusing the two of them. They didn't move very far, so Michael and I pretended to talk while really listening to their conversation.

"Why did Luke have his hands around your waist?!" Alyssa asked angrily. I knew why she was angry, she was jealous. I smirked inside at the sight.

"Um, we're kind of friends now I guess..." replied Alex, not really having a valid explanation.

"What happened to 'staying away from him or he'll break our hearts' Alex?!" Alex looked down, I knew she didn't want to tell Alyssa about me changing, she wouldn't believe her anyways. "Gosh, I can't believe you Alex." she finished, crossing her arms to show annoyance.

"But why are you angry about it?" Alex asked very calmly.

"Because you- you just-. You know what? Forget it for now, I think we should take a break." Alyssa hesitated, and with that, she walked away in search for another friend to hang out with. I saw Michael's face blush a little as she walked past him. Weird.

When Alex walked back to us, I noticed the sadness in her face. I put my arm around her as we started walking to first lesson and whispered in her ear.

"Don't worry, everything will be fine in a bit, I promise." She looked up at me and brought a smile to her face to assure me that she was okay.

Alex stayed the same for the rest of the day: reserved but fine. I wanted to cheer her up. I wanted to make her feel loved. But most of all, I wanted her to know I was here for her. After school we went to my house to paint my walls. Michael and Alex borrowed my clothes and it didn't matter, though my shirts were big for Alex, and it looked cute.

"What colour are we painting your walls?" she asked, startling me out of my thoughts.

"Baby blue!" I told her, giggling. She giggled too.

"I love baby blue!"

"Okay okay, enough of the "cute couple" act. Let's get started!" said Michael enthusiastically.

We filled the floor with tons of newspapers so it didn't get dirty and brought in the paint. Alex struggled to open the can and Michael helped her. I watched the two of them try their hardest to succeed. After a minute of trying, they opened it and a bit of paint splashed their faces, mostly their cheeks. Their shock slowly faded as they burst into laughter. I joined in and savoured the mood. I hoped it would last forever. We grabbed a roller pin each and went to a section of the room, starting to cover the walls with blue.

Soon, we were talking about bands and music, my favourite topic, and it was so interesting. Alex's favourite band happens to be Bring Me The Horizon. I enjoyed their music, it bursted with sound. Afterwards, I noticed that Alex was walking over to me.

"You have something on your face, Luke." She pointed to my cheek.

"Here?" I asked, wiping the spot she pointed at.

"No, let me do it." She replied. She brought her other hand up and I felt a cold substance wipe across my cheek. The next thing I know, Alex is dying of laughter and Michael chuckles. I wiped the same spot and saw that Alex had put paint on my face. I  decided to take revenge playfully. I dropped my roller pin and dipped both my hands in paint. I ran to Alex and grabbed  her arms, pretending to tie them at the back. She tried to wriggle out of my grip as I put my hands under her shirt and held her waist smoothly, but tight enough so she couldn't get away. She laughed more after shuddering at the touch of cold paint. We both fell down, me on top of her, laughing. When we were calming down, I whispered in her ear.

"I love you Alexis."

Alexis' POV:

After 3-4 hours of being done, the paint had dried and Michael and I left his house.

"Thanks for helping guys. My doors always open for you if you need me." said Luke as we got out of his door. We still had paint on our clothes but it didn't matter.

"No problem Luke, and thanks." said Michael, giving him a hug.

"Yeah, thanks. See ya." I said. Our hug lasted longer, I wanted it to last forever. We smiled at each other, then left.

I decided to drop Michael home first so he wasn't lonely. I felt guilty for making him feel like a third wheel.

"Michael, is there something you want to let out?" I asked, I knew he was feeling down because we left him out.

"No, I'm fine."

"You sure?" I replied slowly, trying to get into his thoughts.

"Okay, you got me. Yes, I'm crushing on Alyssa."
