George is diagnosed with Asperger syndrome, a type of Autism. He has been going to a boy's boarding school since he was seven. The other boys bully him, and he can't control his emotions properly.

One day he meets the strange and mysterious Sam, the only boy he's really ever known who doesn't tease him or try to make him angry. So what will happen when George starts to fall for this wonderful and distant boy?

I race along, my old banger threatening to give up, as I force it to it’s maximum. I know I’m breaking the speed limit, but I need to get them as soon as possible. I need to see my baby boy. I didn’t know what was happening. I know that sounds crazy, but I honestly didn’t. How could I have been so blind? I knew it was a bad idea, right from the start. Yet I let Paul send him there, thinking he knew best. He was just jealous. Jealous of other fathers who have ‘normal’ sons. It’s not George’s fault! He just wanted him out of the way. I hate him.

I reach the boarding school in record time, and find Miss Palton waiting for me outside. I am so grateful to her. I would never have known about any of this if it wasn’t for her. I compose myself. Hot tracks are staining my cheeks. I didn’t even realise I’d been crying. Miss Palton greets me without a word and leads me to the Head’s office.

After what seems like a decade, I am let out and I sit, waiting on the plastic chairs like at a hospital. I don’t like hospitals. Miss Palton comes out a few minutes later and says that she will go and get them. I lay my head back against the cool wall and wonder how I came to be here. All the thoughts are mixed up in my head. How did George get from being the happy-go-lucky seven year old to the seventeen year old taking the world by himself? I should have been there for him. Helped him along the way. Helped him make the best of his life. But I wasn’t. And nothing can change that.

I throw the nearest window open, needing some air. In the distance, I see three hurrying figures. I rush out the front door.

I stare at my George. He is all grown up now. And behind him is…

“Samantha?” I hear my voice as if from a distance. She stares back, knowing. George looks confused between us. His head whips back and forth, back and forth. Samantha, me, Samantha, me, Samantha, me. He doesn’t know what’s going on. I’m not sure I do.

Suddenly, Samantha starts shaking. Her hands curl into fists, and her teeth start chattering. She stares surprised at her legs. Her head moves in slow, sticky motions, whilst her limbs are jerking wildly. George looks on, wide eyed. Then everything goes in slow motion. Samantha stares around her. She tried to move to George. But she isn’t using her legs. Her eyes close sluggishly, as if stuck in honey. Then they snap open, just as her legs give way. We all rush to her, but George gets there first. He gathers her onto his lap and starts yelling. He won’t let anyone touch her. I’ve never seen him this passionate about anything before.

Quickly, I call Emily, telling her to get up here as fast as possible.
