My Song Recommendations

A song recommendation every day (be warned, they will probably all be weird folky songs that no one will have heard of or want to bother with.) Hozier, Sara Bareilles, Hudson Taylor, Passenger, Ben Howard, Bear's Den, Vance Joy will all probably be featured quite heavily.

Basically this is just my response to how much I love certain songs and writers at the moment and how I listen to something and get that "weird evangelical zeal, and become convinced that the shattered world will never be put back together unless and until all living humans [hear it]".

Enjoy!

7. Day 6 - I hate (RATED Y)

I hate by Passenger:

I hate racist blokes, telling tasteless jokes
And explaining where people belong
I hate ignorant folks, who pay money to see gigs
And talk through every fucking song
I hate people in night clubs, snorting coke
And explaining where you're going wrong
Well if you agree, then come hate it with me
And feel free to sing along

And it goes:
La, la, la, la, la, la
La, la, la, la, la, la, la, la
La, la, la, la, la, la
La, la, la, la, la, la, la, la
Wonderful, love it

Well, I hate pointless status updates on Facebook
FYI we were never "m8"s
We pretend to be friends on the internet
When in real life, we have nothing to say
To each other, oh brother, I have love for my mother
For good times, for music and my mates
Yeah I laugh, and I live and I have love to give
But sometimes all you can do is hate

And it goes:
La, la, la, la, la, la
La, la, la, la, la, la, la, la
La, la, la, la, la, la
La, la, la, la, la, la, la, la

Well, I hate them fussy eaters, you cook them fajitas
They only eat pizza and chips
I hate stepping outside, for a smoke and some guy
Coughs, like your lungs are his
And I hate queuing up for festival toilets
Especially when you need to shit
And I hate the X-Factor for murdering music
You bunch of money grabbing pricks

And it goes:
La, la, la, la, la, la
La, la, la, la, la, la, la, la
La, la, la, la, la, la
La, la, la, la, la, la, la, la

And I hate them magazines, aimed at insecure teens
That make ten year olds race to grow up
Hey kids, let's all be anorexic or better
Eat chocolate until you throw up
Keep your Hollywood stars, and their stupid cars
And the Botox, that makes them look fucked
Just grow old with grace, have you seen Cher's face
It looks like it's been hit by a truck

And it goes:
La, la, la, la, la, la
La, la, la, la, la, la, la, la
La, la, la, la, la, la
La, la, la, la, la, la, la, la

One more time, loud as you can
La, la, la, la, la, la
La, la, la, la, la, la, la, la
La, la, la, la, la, la
La, la, la, la, la, la, la, la

Sometimes all you can do is hate...

Well, this song is particularly for people who've been having a frustrating week and need to vent their rage/ have a bit of a laugh, some of it's pretty crude but I agree with every single word sung. I think that the power of this song comes from its humour: you're laughing and then you get shivers because what you're really laughing at is how messed-up our world and its thinking is. For me its always the last verse that gets me - goosebumps every time - probably because it resonates with my life experience so far... and then his sense of humour means that it still manages to be really light hearted despite dealing with some massive issues.

I've linked the live version so you can get the hatred/humour vibes. This is taken from Passengers album 'All The Little Lights' which you may know because that's the album that had his hit 'Let Her Go' on it.

Sorry about all the swearing and sorry that its another Passenger song (plenty more of him to come as well!) but I hope you enjoy it today - let me know in the comments whether you agree with the hatred!
