42. ch.42

I rang the doorbell with bags in hand. I felt like an Idiot going back to my parents house, but I had no where else to go...I thought about making an extremely early entrance to Nebraska's wedding but it was too late to go back now. My mom answered the door.

"Miranda!" She said and hugged me. I reluctantly hugged her back. I loved my parents but things had been rough with us for a long time I didn't know how to react. She quickly let me go.

"I need to stay here for a little bit." I said.

"Oh okay..." She said walking into the house I followed. I saw the house I grew up in. It seemed a lot smaller than I'd remembered. My dad came down the stairs before he could say anything my mom spoke,

"Miranda's going to be staying with us Rob...Isn't that great." She said trying to cover up the fact we hadn't spoken in four years. He was silent for a second, I couldn't read his facial expression at all.

"Miranda it's good to see you." He said and walked into his office. I took a deep breath, he didn't let me say anything to him...No I love you dad, No I wish you weren't such an ass.....Whatever, it's fine.

"Miranda you can put your things in your old room and come down for dinner at 5:00."

"Okay thanks mom." She didn't say anything she just went into the kitchen. I wondered if my sister was here or not. I don't know what she does for a living but I know she hasn't talked to me in four years and she travels a lot according to mom. I walked down the hall past her room I looked in the slightly cracked door there she was sitting on her bed on her phone I was hoping she wouldn't see me. She's good looking, she has chocolate brown hair with bangs and hazel peircing eyes. I remember having so much fun together when we were kids, but she always did what my parents wanted, got a scholarship to Yale, went on the success path and I...well....I didn't even go to college. I walked down the rest of the hallway to my old room. It was all gone, regular guest room...all my little kid stuff everything I left when I was eighteen...gone. I slammed ,my bags down and flopped on the unfamiliar bed spread. I looked into my neighbor's yard, someone else lived there and it looked different. I opened my old dresser...nothing. I looked at the alarm clock which might have been the only thing they left from my existence in this house. 5:00 I took a deep breath and ignored the lump in my throat. I got up and pulled Ashton's grey ACDC tank top that I'd stolen from him from the night first we spent together. I hugged it and wished I was hugging him. I put it on my bed and went out the door. My sister saw me and stopped mid hallway.

"Oh my god.....Miranda?" She asked.

"Yeah." I said and grabbed my arm nervously. She ran up and hugged me.

"I missed you." She said I was actually taller than her. She's actually two years older than me and used to tower over me.

"Then why didn't you call?" I said and stopped hugging her and went down stairs. There was a whole table of food my mom made. I sat down across from my mom where I always used to sit. Everyone else sat down. Half the time it was just silence and chewing, I didn't eat much. My dad randomly spoke,

"Miranda since your sister's in town were going on vacation in Colorado like we used to, would you like to come?" I was floored....What did he just say...I almost spit my iced tea right onto my mom, I swallowed and spoke.

"Sure." I blurted out. WHY? WHY DO I HAVE TO BE SO BAD IN HIGH-STRESS SITUATIONS? It was silent for a few minutes while everyone processed what had just happened.

"We leave tomorrow, I know you have some bags so just bring those."

"Okay, I'm going to bed." I said and got up from the table and ran up the stairs. I grabbed Ashton's shirt again and hugged it tight and flopped onto the bed spread. I felt my tears sink into the grey fabric. If this whole family loved me so much why can't they call? Just one string, one small piece of affection would have been great when I lived in a shitty ass hotel serving terrible people room service and crying myself to sleep because I miss my family. I calmed myself down and held tightly onto Ashton's shirt. I grabbed my phone from my night stand. The sun was going down now and my old room was getting darker by the moment. I saw one missed call from Luke, there was a voice mail I listened to it,

"Hi Miranda It's Luke, Calum, Michael, Ashton, Quorra and Nebraska checking in seeing how you're doing on Montana!" Luke said I heard everyone else speak,

"Hi Miranda we miss you!" I heard Nebraska and Quorra say.

"Yeah we miss you already! Come back!" I heard Calum and Michael say.

"Hope your doing great love." Ashton said and I heard the other boys laugh at him which made me smile.

"Bye Miranda!" Luke said

"Bye!" I heard everyone else say. I wish I was with them, they were probably at the beach or watching a movie at Calum and Quorra's place. I decided to call, I didn't know what time it was there so I didn't know if they would answer or not, But I missed them and just that voicemail alone made my day a little better. I heard the dial tone ring for a long time. I hate waiting for people to answer the phone when I need to talk. And, just as I'd hoped, Luke answered the phone.

"Hello?" He said.

"Hey, I got your guy's voicemail, how are you doing?" I asked.

"Were good, we miss you already, how's Montana?"

"Oh I'm okay...are you with everyone else?"

"Actually me and the boys were having a band meeting, the girls are hanging out."

"Oh how are the guys?"

"There doing want to talk to them?"

"If you don't mind?"

"Not at all! Here-" I heard Luke pull the phone away from his ear, "CALUM!"

"What?!" Calum said

"Okay." I waited a few minutes and heard Calum's voice on the other end,

"Hey Calum it's Miranda!"

"Oh hey! How's Montana?"

"Oh....It's alright, How are you guys?"

"Were fine."

"How are things with you and Quorra?" I asked.

"Great!" He said, I didn't have to be there to know he was smiling like an idiot as soon as I said 'Quorra.'

"Haha, thats good."

"Here talk to Michael-" He said shoving the phone into Michael's hand.

"Hello, Who might this be?" He asked.

"It's Miranda." I said feeling better.

"Oh hey! So you're actually not on tour with us anymore, what are we going to do without you?"

"I don't know....Maybe you'll have to sign me again." I said knowing that the answer would be no. My contract limits me to ONLY ONE year of service.

"We tried...The manager's all uptight about your contract...stupid legally binding documents."

"I know right." I said sitting up still holding Ashton's shirt and missing my four idiots.

"How's Ashton?" I asked.

"He's doing alright...wanna talk to him?"

"Yeah...kind of..."

"Oh you two! Okay hold on-" "ASHTON! PHONE CALL, IT'S IMPORTANT!"

"Okay!" I heard Ashton say. Silence...then I heard Ashton,

"Hey it's me, Miranda." I said.

"Oh my god MIRANDA! I've missed you so much, How are things with Montana?"

"Honestly...not great...I had to move back in with my parents." I said, I knew I could be honest with him.

"Oh, you're everything okay down you need me?"

"It's fine. I do miss you though but as long as you're having fun back home."

"Yeah I'm alright, Did you just call Australia home?" He asked in an upbeat voice.

"Yeah." I said suddenly feeling sad, that was home, more home than my own state, my own country. Tears slipped down my cheeks.

"Are you crying?"

"You are crying! What's the matter?"

"Just stuff with my parents and everything, I miss everyone, I miss you...I don't feel at home. Look you probably have to go...I'm fine."

"I am not hanging up this phone until you stop crying."

"I'm not crying." I said as more tears fell onto Ashton's shirt. It was quiet for a minute, I could hear the other boys playing music in the background.

"Check your texts..." He said.

"Just do it!"

"Okay." I said sniffling. I looked down, one message from Ashton I opened it.

A: Goodnight

"Hey Ashton?"

"I love you."

"I love you too, Goodnight baby."

"Hey look you stopped crying."

"I love you." I said again.

"Goodnight." Ashton said, I could tell he was smiling. He hung up the phone and I put it down on my night stand, cuddled up in his shirt and went to sleep.
