2. A new feeling

I've been home all week faking to have a fever. I would put the thermometer on a light bulb and then put in in my mouth and I would have a high fever.

I went downstairs and saw my dad with a beer bottle in his hands." Good morning Grace." He said." Come sit next to me." He said. Even though my father was a drunkard, I wasn't scared of him. He was the only person I trusted.

"I hope you don't hate me, but I'm going away for next month and your going to be staying with your grandparents. But I'll be back in November for thanksgiving. Will that be ok?" He asked holding my hand." Yeah that's fine. Maybe I can get to know them a little bit more." I said with a smile." That's my girl. He said with a smile on my face. He kissed my head and headed to the kitchen.

But I thought." Wait, dad! When are they coming to get me?" I asked." There're coming this Friday. So start packing like around Wednesday." He said. I smiled.

My mom used to say "In tough situations, just make the best of it and smile." Mom had a lot of sayings for a lot of situations. When she died in a car accident, I tried to find the saying for that situation but just couldn't find it.

When Wednesday came, I packed everything I owned because my father wasn't coming exactly next month. He would be a couple of weeks later. I packed my things and my special teddy bear that my mom gave me before she died. If I didn't have that bear, I wouldn't be able to sleep each and every night.

I stayed home this week because my dad didn't want me to go and get sick before my grandparents would come and get me. My mom's parents are coming to my house. My dad's parents live in another country so there's nothing that's making be go there. But the grandparents that live here are like right down the street from where I live.

As soon as you know it it was Friday. I put on a nice shirt and some jeans and waited for them to come." Are you nervous?" My dad asked." Not nervous. More like anxious." I answered." Well I hope you have fun over there. They are very nice people." He told me." I'm going to miss you." I said." I'll miss you more. But I'm going to be back. And when your over there you can get a taste of what it's like. Your going to be there a lot."

There was a sudden knock on the door. My dad opened it." Hola amigos!" He said. There was lots of hugs and kisses and all that jazz." Look at you! Your so gorgeous! I can't wait to just spend time with you!" Grandma said." I know right she's getting so big! Can I put your bags in the car?" Grandpa asked." Yeah. You can." I said smiling. "Alright sunshine. I'll see you in a few weeks. I'll call you." Dad said to me. I gave him a hug and hopped in their car.

We got to their house and it was bigger than our home. For two old people, they had a lot of room." Wow." I said." Well when you work hard, your work turns into accomplishments." Grandma said. I was shocked. My mother said that when I was little.

Grandma looked just like mom. How her eyes curves and how her nose flattens out was just like mom's. But my grandpa had mom's smile. And I always loved her smile.

They took me to a room in the back upstairs and put my things there." This was your mom's room before she left for college. I figured that you would want to stay in here to feel comfortable." Grandma said." It's perfect." I said looking around." Good. I'll be downstairs if you need me." She said." Thank you." I said. And she smiled.

I looked around. There were teddy bears and dolls everywhere. The wall paper was pink with purple polkadots. And I loved it. Even though I was not sure of staying here forever, I was sure feeling something new.
