The Factionless Born

Everyone seemed to have had the choice, the decision to decide where they belonged. Everyone except for us; the factionless born. Born without a faction of origin, without a purpose. Maybe one day things will be different. We will have something to live for. The end of the system, the beginning of something new.

"What do you mean to say?" Kaitlyn asked. "You found out nothing?" I shrugged. I wasn't in a good mood. "I guess it didn't come up in conversation." Danielle said. "Didn't come up in conversation?" Kaitlyn wasn't in a fairly good mood either.

I stared at the wooden floor. "Then what did you talk about?" Travis asked. I look up at Danielle. She shrugs looking over at me. "Nothing." I say. "Then what was the point?" He asks.

"What?" I ask a little more irritated than meant to. "What was the point of going in there then? To talk to James?" He asks. I look at him. Travis had his arms crossed, usually not a good sign. I didn't care.

"I said, nothing." I looked away. "Then what's the next plan? Charles only has five more days with food." Charles, he was the reason we went to see James. He was the reason.

"I don't know." Danielle says. "Riley?" They hoped I had come up with a back up plan, but I didn't. I didn't answer.

...

"Can we see Charles?" Kaitlyn asked. She's going to say no, I know it. Evelyn was calm, unlike the last time we were here. "Absolutely not." I knew it. "He didn't do it." Kaitlyn said. "And you know it."

They stared at each other for what seemed like ages. "He hasn't admitted his involvement yet." Kaitlyn threw up her arms. "Don't you get it!" I nearly jumped at her sudden outburst.

"He wasn't involved," Kaitlyn closed her eyes. "I was." She reopened them, Evelyn didn't seem shocked. "Chris." Chris grabbed her arms, holding her back. "You knew." Kaitlyn said. Evelyn smirked. "I knew it was you from the beginning." Everyone else was silent. "I knew you wouldn't admit it, not at first."

Charles. "So you took Charles." Kaitlyn said, now understanding her plan. Evelyn smiled a little. She knew Kaitlyn would eventually come clean, mostly to save Charles.

"You didn't think I haven't noticed that we haven't been receiving anymore Divergent since I locked up Charles, did you?" Chris dragged Kaitlyn away.

Evelyn looked at the rest of us. "Charles will be released as soon as possible." Silence. "Is there anything else?" She asked. Nothing. She sat down next to a map. "If there isn't a problem, then you may leave." Kaitlyn. She wouldn't. She only wanted to save Charles.

...

I plop down onto my mattress. This was all so confusing. I didn't realize how tired I was. I sigh running a hand through my hair. It's all just so stressful.

I lay down hugging my pillow. James. Charles. Kaitlyn. This was all because Evelyn wanted to find the stupid Divergent. Divergent. It's not like there was anything special about them.
