"What's wrong? What's happening?"
"Just some complications."
Beth and Harry? Great match. But things are complicated. And how are you supposed to fight complications when they have been part of your relationship from the start?

32. 32

[ Beth's P.O.V. ]

Suddenly Harry started crying and it was as if my heart had dropped into my stomach. I quickly leaned forwards to put my arms around him. I could feel him shaking as i hugged him. He was trying to wipe his tears away furiously, probably about to deny he had even started.

He gave up on trying to stop them from flowing down his cheeks.

"I'm sorry, I'm so sorry," he choked repeatedly, his fingers running through his hair every few seconds. I shook my head, shushing him.

"All of the people out there, you wouldn't have to put up with them hadn't it been for me. It's my fault you have to hear all those things," he mumbled, looking absolutely miserable as he rubbed his temples. I sat up straight.

"It's not your fault, okay?" I stated firmly, looking him in the eyes.

"It is," he repeated bleakly, frowning.

"You came up with a great idea to get past them without as much hassle as there could have been. You did what you could to make it as pleasant as possible," I reminded him, taking his hand in mine.

"But it's still my fault you even have to experience it," he said quietly, looking down at our hands.

"It's not something you have to feel guilty about, it comes with your job and there's nothing you can do about that," I retorted softly. He gave me a small nod and I smiled.

"We have an eight hour long flight ahead of us, and we need to stay away for the most of it. Let's cheer up so we can have a good time, alright?" I suggested, squeezing his fingers. He gave me a swift smile and nodded again. Still not saying anything, he leaned into me and put an arm around his shoulders.

We sat there in silence for a few minutes. I realised with relief that we had left the paps far behind already.

"The airport, right?" Alex suddenly asked, glancing at us in the rear view mirror. I replied with a quick 'yes please' and smiled. He nodded, turning his eyes back on the road. The car was filled with silence again.

"Did you listen to them?" Harry suddenly asked faintly. I opened my mouth, but closed it again. I nodded. I had definitely heard the last few seconds of shouting before I had got into the car.

"And you're not hurt? Or affected in any way?" he murmured, a note of disbelief in his voice. I thought about that for a moment. Was I hurt?

"No, not that I'm aware of," I replied, looking at him. Was he angry with me because I hadn't completely ignored them like he had told me to?

"You're incredible," he chuckled, messing my hair up a bit. I snorted and pushed his hands away from my head.

"I do try," I then shot back, trying to flatten my hair again as I glared at him. He sniggered at me and I frowned.

"Medusa wants her hair back," he joked, tugging on a lock of my hair lightly. I slapped his hands again and rolled my eyes.

"Look who's talking. And anyway, Medusa had snakes, not hair," I countered, flicking at his head. He muttered an indignant 'ow', rubbing the spot I had flicked. I smirked.

"Someone swallowed a Greek mythology book this morning, huh?" he grinned, raising an eyebrow.

"Someone else is just being an uncultured swine," I said in a sophisticated voice, sticking my tongue out at him. He opened his mouth to reply with another joking insult. But he closed his mouth again after a few seconds. He grunted in a resigned way.

"You've won," he admitted,  pouting slightly. I grinned and gave him a playful elbow in the side.

"I always do," I sighed happily, leaning against him again.

"No, you don't," he grumbled under his breath. My grin widened as I laughed at him.

"Go away," he groaned, pushing me off him. I couldn't help myself from laughing even louder as he kept up the offended act.

"You two are like hormonal teenagers," Alex muttered from the front. Harry's eyes widened. And then he cracked up.

We sat there, literally laughing our heads off for a minute as Alex tutted.

"Back to business," he then stated seriously when we had calmed down. I nodded, suppressing a grin. I could see Harry was attempting the same.

"The paparazzi will have guessed what you're going to do, how are you going to deal with them at the airport?" he asked, his forehead wrinkled with worry. I felt a bit bad for having to put him under that sort of stress. Harry looked over at me and I shrugged.

"I guess I can use the bin bag, right?" I suggested, raising my eyebrows at Harry, who nodded.

"You can use your hood," I then added with a grin as I pulled the hood of his jacket way too far over his face. There was a few moments of muffled protest from his side and laughter from mine. I stopped soon after, though. And he emerged looking slightly ruffled and disgruntled.

"Is it okay if I use it in a less encaging way?" he asked, shooting me a look. I nodded, grinning at his expression.

"Just use it, okay?" Alex snapped sharply. My face turned sombre again and I nodded. It was like being back at school. Harry fell silent too, fidgeting slightly. We seemed to have hit a nerve. an awkward quiet filled the car and I looked out of the window, the airport already in sight. Living close to it had its upsides.

"How many more minutes until the plane leaves?" Harry asked softly, obviously trying to keep his voice down so he didn't irritate the chauffeur even more.

"We've still got approximately an hour, don't worry," I replied, smiling. He nodded, looking forwards again. His cheeks were still a little red from crying. I couldn't help myself. I reached out and stroked the side of his face.

"Just to check you're real," I joked when he giggled and tilted his head. He was obviously pretty ticklish. I tried touching his neck with my fingertips and he literally shrieked, trying to pull my hand away. Alex yelped and I felt the car jolt slightly. He huffed and my eyes widened. I looked to Harry and he had frozen, his arms still fending off my hands. It looked quite comical, but it wasn't really the time to laugh.

"So we've set this straight, when you're out of this car, you're not my problem anymore, okay? When I've dropped you off, I'm going to take a big break. A break I really deserve," he added, glaring at us in the mirror. Harry and I nodded. It was almost as if we were two little kids who had been caught doing something wrong.

Silence filled the taxi once again. And this time it actually stayed quiet until we reached the airport. We slowly drove into the drop-off area, keeping our eyes open for any potential stress sources.

"Where are they?" Harry asked out loud, peering out of the rear window. I shrugged, knowing he was referring to the paps that had been following us before. I wasn't going to complain about their absence.

The car stopped and Alex turned around to face us. Harry quickly fumbled around in his pocket for his wallet. When he had finally retrieved it, he pulled out a fifty pound note and handed it to him. Alex smiled and took it, pocketing the money.

"Thanks," he nodded. Harry smiled easily.

"One more thing, though," Alex then remembered, pulling out a pen. We gave him a confused look, but he grinned.

"I need an autograph for my daughter, I've just realised it's you and your folks she keeps yapping on about," he explained, pulling out a notebook. Harry laughed and signed the slightly ruined paper quickly.

"Thanks for that too," Alex said sheepishly. Then his expression turned serious again.

"Now get out of here before they're up my arse too," he said briskly. I snorted, opening the car door on my side. Harry followed suit and we got out.

"Thanks for putting up with us!" he yelled over his shoulder just before he slammed the door behind him. I couldn't hear anything, but I could distinctly see Alex roll his eyes as he got ready to speed off again. I looked at Harry, seeing if he had noticed it too. He nodded, looking amused.

"Great guy, though," he commented before grabbing my hand.

Together we walked towards the terminal. I had already pulled my bin bag on again and Harry had his hood up, like I had suggested before. We kept getting a few weird stares, but no one seemed to recognise us. That was the most important thing. It was a little ironic, really.

When we had finally made it to the terminal safely, we decided to head to the check-in straight away. The assistant frowned when she saw us and she looked like she was on the verge of calling the police. But it worked anyway. Our luggage had been safely checked in.

"Take care of the bags, check," Harry grinned from under his hood. Afterwards, I distinctly heard him cough the word 'in' and although it had clearly been a pun, I decided not to notice it. Just for fun.

When we reached the security checks, I was suddenly stopped.

"I'm sorry, but you're not allowed to wear Halloween costumes here, ma'am," a gruff voice announced from behind me. I frowned. What would protect me from cameras now?

"Here, you can have my hoodie," Harry told me, taking it off warily as I pulled the bin bag over my head and threw it where it belonged. In an actual bin. I thanked him as I put it on, pulling the hood so it threw shadows over my face. It would have to do.

We got through security with no further problems. Only a few murmurs from people in other lines. I was amazed at our luck.

"Why is everything going so well?" I mumbled, allowing myself to look around. Harry shrugged and grinned as he collected our belongings.

"Today's our lucky day."
