The Perfect Teenage Experience

This is the story of 13 year old Ava's adventures of being a teenager, and her dreams of how the real world would work if everything went her way.

1. 13th Birthday

I was so excited to see that the entire school had showed up to my birthday party! Even more people had came than last year, but I knew why. I was turning thirteen. That means that I am a teenager. Teens are so much cooler than kids. They get to do so much, like see PG-13 movies, and date boys, and maybe even stay up all night! I could feel myself lift a little bit when I saw Chad Cooper. He was the hottest guy in the seventh grade. He walked up to me and said, "Hey, Ava. Cool party. Do you want to come bowling with a couple of my friends?" I was flattered, but I kept my cool. "Sure. See you then." I smiled, and he walked away.

It was almost seven-thirty. I couldn't believe that nobody was coming! At least five people had responded to the invitation, and they weren't even here. Finally, at quarter to eight, I got a couple guests. One of which, was Avery Beakens. She was the most popular girl in school, and she is only nice to the people that she likes. To everyone else, she's a witch. But, she seemed pretty neutral right now, so I let her in. She apologized that everyone else was late.

"What do you mean, everyone else?"

Avery looked at me like I had just asked her what color my hair was.

"You know, my friends. I don't go to a party without a couple dozen acquaintances."
A couple dozen? That is a lot of people. Sort of. I mean, more than I've ever had to a party. We sat awkwardly until more people arrived. I carefully strided to get the door. When I opened it, there was a cluster of people pushing themselves in, blocked by the boy in the front. The boy in the front. Chad Cooper. He was so popular, some of the 4th graders knew who he was. He was pretty good at sports, and he used to date Avery. Well, not really. I mean, they kissed once during study hall, and then Avery said that they "broke up" from whatever they had together. He grinned, and then released the mob of party-ready middle schoolers.

Later in the night, things were a bit quieter because some of the crazy people had left, and Chad was in the kitchen with a couple other people. I approached him, and started to talk.

"Hey, Cooper. Nice Jacket."

"Hi, Chad. How's basketball?" Stupidest thing I could have ever said.

He turned around with a water bottle and said, "Um, good. You're Ava, right?"

Yeah. And you're Chad. Wanna go out?
