Doctor Gregory Adams had done all his home visits and was looking forward to his lunch until the phone went.

“Hello this is Dr Adams; how can I help you?

It’s me; came back a reply.”

“Linda, what do you want?

“I need to see you.”

“Look Linda I wish you wouldn’t call me at work; we are divorced. ‘ What is it you want?

“I’m dying Gregory.”

Dying what do you mean?

“I have cancer and its terminal; I only have weeks to live.

“I’m sorry Linda; when would you like to meet?

“The sooner the better as we have to discuss Mollie.

“Yes I understand. I will drop by after work tonight if that’s alright?

“Yes that would be fine as Tom will be out playing golf.

“See you around six o’clock then.”

Gregory hung up the phone and cursed himself. He had been divorced for four years after he discovered his wife was having an affair with a solicitor. The divorce cost him a lot because she used Mollie his daughter; as a bargaining tool.

He gave her the house on “The Broadway” in Tynemouth; she also got over forty thousand pounds in cash. Gregory started again buying a bungalow in Whitley Bay next to the “Quarry Tavern.” The pub came in handy when he couldn’t be bothered to cook. It was easier to pop in and have a meal and a quick pint. He decided to do that tonight after speaking with his ex wife.

After seeing his four patients that afternoon Gregory packed his little bag and a brief case and closed the surgery.

He got into the black Morris Minor started the engine then headed off to his ex wife’s house.

He parked outside and looked at his watch again for the umpteenth time he opened the door of his car and then went to the back where he placed his bag and brief case before locking up and walking through the wrought iron gates then up the driveway to the house.

Linda let him in where he walked into the living room.

“Please take a seat.”

“Would you like a drink?

“Coffee would be fine I’m driving.”

She brought him the percolated coffee that he liked and remembered he didn’t take milk but liked it sweetened with three sugars.
