The weekend had been a bit of an ordeal for Mavis; Jonathan had played tennis with her in the court behind the house and they had swum in the pool when Angela had sent out for a bathing suit for her. “The food had been first class but it was the domineering attitude from Angela that Mavis had found annoying.

Edward her husband on the other hand had been very charming. Jonathan certainly took after his father and Mavis could see how women were attracted to him.

During the drive home Jonathan stopped off at a diner where they had coffee and apple pie.

“Jonathan spoke first as Mavis tucked into the apple pie.”

“I hope my mother hasn’t spoilt your weekend Mavis; I know she can be overbearing at times but she means well.

“All mothers are protective of their own Jonathan; I would be the same I guess.

“I want you both to get along Mavis because I’m falling in love with you.” I knew it the first time I saw you in the store.

“Do you think we could have a future together?

“That would depend on one thing that you haven’t done.”

“I’m sorry, what is that I think I have been very….

“Jonathan; shut up and just kiss me.”

Jonathan took her in his arms and they kissed for the first time.

Mavis felt truly complete now she had dragged herself out of the gutter and made a life for herself and her parents. She was also a successful business woman and Jonathan had helped her to open stores in twelve states. They sold all the latest paper back and hard cover books as well as used books. Mavis married Jonathan in the spring of 1954. Jonathan’s father had them a new house built in the country side in Pennsylvania. They had two boys together; Ross, and Jordan, who their grand parents adore. Mavis Bell, the girl from the little town of North Shields was now a multi millionaire and very happy indeed.

Greg married Ruth in the church where they took Mollie to the play group.

Lynn was her maid of honour; Mollie was a bridesmaid.

Alan Blithe had the termination bill passed in the House of Commons and in 1953 the first clinic was opened in Britain. Contraception wasn’t made available until two years later.

Greg and Ruth had a child together, a son who they named after Ruth’s father.

They still live in the bungalow they had extended.

Bill Peters was buried in Preston Cemetery with a simple headstone which read- Bill Peters British Light Heavyweight Champion 1950 over 2.000 people attended his funeral. Tug Fawcett went on to win the World Lightweight Championship and dedicated the win to his friend Bill Peters.
