“I am no fool Jonathan and I know how the game is played.”

“Honestly Mavis, I am not playing around here; I have never met a woman like you.

“You’re intelligent, beautiful and you make me want to be a better man.

The food came and Mavis took her fork to eat her salad.

“Could we get more drinks here Thomas?

“Yes Mr Carrington, right away.

“Jonathan ordered an omelette with mushrooms bacon and mixed peppers.”

“Would you like to come up to the house and meet my parents? They will love you I’m sure.

“Don’t you think it’s a bit soon to be introducing me to your parents?

“We have only had lunch and one date.

“I don’t need any more dates to tell me how I feel about you.”

If you would like more time I will understand.

Mavis looked at Jonathan then said alright, I will meet your parents but we are not sleeping together do you understand?

“I wouldn’t expect you to Mavis.”

Thomas brought their main course and fresh cocktails.

Jonathan had ordered Lobster in butter sauce. “How is the veal?

“It’s very good; this is the first tie I’ve been here.”

“Let’s hope that it won’t be our last then. He squeezed Mavis’s hand and smiled.

Mavis didn’t withdraw from his touch and smiled back at him.

When they had finished their meal Jonathan asked if Mavis would like to dance with him.

She went to get up and Jonathan pulled out her chair, took her by the hand, and led her to the dance floor. They moved around the dance floor well together Mavis felt relaxed in Jonathan’s arms as he spun her around then pulled her towards him. It took her by surprise and she gasped.

Jonathan was a very good dancer, he had all the moves. They danced for a good half an hour before a slow number was played. More people got up and began to dance Mavis moved in closer to Jonathan and he held her in his arms and they looked into each others eyes.

Around and around they went until the music stopped. It was a few seconds before they both realised the music had finished.

I should go said Mavis, I have a business to run.

Jonathan drove Mavis home but made no attempt to try and kiss her.

“May I call you tomorrow after I speak with my parents?

“Yes, I will be at the store.”

“Goodnight then.”

“Goodnight Jonathan,”
