It’s Miss; Miss Atkins.”

“Touché said Ruth.”

“Could we see a menu Debbie, Greg interrupted; we will have a bottle of your house wine too thank you.”

“Certainly Greg, Debbie Garrity handed the menu’s over then went to get two glasses and the bottle of wine.

Ruth looked at the menu and made a mental note of what she wanted.

Greg asked Mollie what she would like to eat.

Can I have burger and chips daddy?

“Has she been good today Ruth?

Very good we have a surprise to show you tomorrow; don’t we Mollie?

Mollie nodded then giggled.

“Oh, I love surprises.”

Then you will love this one.”

Debbie brought the wine and opened the bottle at the table. She was looking at Ruth up and down before pouring a little into Greg’s glass.

Have you decided what you would like to eat?

Greg asked Ruth if she had made a selection as Debbie took out a note pad and prepared to take the order.

“Could I have a Caesar Salad as a starter and I will have the Dover Sole with new potatoes and vegetable medley?

“What are you having Greg; she asked fluttering her eyes at him.

I will have your Soup of the Day to start and the Sirloin Steak the way I like it Debbie thank you.

“Mollie will have the soup and burger and chips Debbie please.”

“You’re meal will be coming right up.”

Debbie went into the kitchen and handed the chef the order then moved further down the bar where she began flirting with a young man. She kept looking over to see if Greg was watching her but Greg paid her no attention what so ever.

Instead he asked Mollie and Ruth about their day.

I went into town today and bought Mollie some books so that I can teach her to read.

“Like I said yesterday Ruth you are wasting your time.”

I would like to try anyway if it is alright with you. I know I’m no Martha Keller but even if Mollie can learn a few words then it is an achievement.

Ruth took a sip of the wine as she waited for Greg to reply; there was a long silence before Greg spoke.

“I don’t want you to become emotionally involved with Mollie, Ruth as I do not want either of you to get hurt.

“I am just doing my job Greg; I am gaining her trust and making her more confident.”

“You are employed as her nurse and carer not her teacher Ruth.”

“I know that and I am not asking for extra money from you, I want to try Greg maybe the others never made a connection with Mollie; yet I have.
