Ruth got Mollie who was reluctant to leave until Ruth explained that they could come again if she was good.

“Tomorrow said Mollie?

“Not tomorrow, but you can on Saturday alright Mollie?

“Alright, said Mollie grabbing her teddy bear from the table.

“Say good bye to Lynn then.”

“Goodbye.”

“I will see you on Saturday then Lynn. ‘ Thanks for a wonderful afternoon.”

“Bye Ruth, bye Mollie.”

“Driving home Mollie said something to Ruth for the first time.

“I like play group.”

“You do; then we will definitely have to go again.”

Ruth tried something now that she had got Mollie’s attention.

“What would you like for your tea tonight Mollie?

“I like chips and sausages.”

“Right then Chips and sausages it is then.

Mollie began to clap her hands and laugh out loud.

Ruth rounded the corner onto Whitley road then turned at the Quarry. It was twenty five past five Greg wasn’t back yet so she let herself in with the key Greg had given her.

“Mollie please go into the bathroom and wash your hands; you know how we did it this afternoon at play group when you went to the toilet?

“Yes I know said Mollie who turned and ran into the bathroom. Ruth watched as she ran the tap then lathered her hands then rinsed them. She found the clean towel on the rail then dried her hands but dropped the towel and left the tap running.

Mollie watch me Ruth went through washing her hands then showed Mollie how to turn off the tap then how to put the towel back on the rail.

“Do you think you can do that Mollie?

“Yes,”

“Alright then show me?

Mollie copied exactly what Ruth had done. “You are a clever girl aren’t you?

“Yes I am.”

“Come on then you can help me in the kitchen.”

Mollie placed the sausages onto a baking tray and then passed them to Ruth who put them into the oven. Now you must wash you hands again said Ruth so Mollie rushed off again to do it. Ruth watched again from a distance and this time without prompting Mollie turned off the tap and hung up the towel after she had dried herself.

“Progress thought Ruth.”
