Jasmine by Moonlight

Two young girls on a caravan holiday meet two young lads from Whitley Bay.
One of them is a promising artist who works for his father who owns the rides in the Spanish City Amusement Park. This is a story of love and prejudice between a Multi millionaire Spanish father and the English Art Student. The father does not think that this man is good enough for his daughter, although he is married to a Scottish woman.

They were both greeted by a little jovial character called Gino who was carrying a few extra pounds around his waist. He dabbed his bald pate with a handkerchief; as Gerry introduced Jasmine Fernandez to his friend.

Gino took hold of Jasmine’s hand and kissed it. ‘Welcome to “Casa Del Olivio’s”

“House of Olives; Jasmine translated.

Gino’s mother is Spanish but his father is Italian.

Gino showed them to a table by the window so they could look out onto Holy Saviours Church and across the road the statue of Queen Victoria. There were flower beds in bloom all around the statue with asters, carnations, blue and white lobelia and marigolds. The stars were shining in the night sky which made the place seem even more romantic.

Gino brought out a bottle of Chianti and two wine glasses he uncorked the bottle then left the menus.

“The house special is really nice here; would you like to try it Jasmine?

“What ever you’re having is good with me.”

A few moments later Gino came back out and asked what they were having.

“Can we have the house special Gino?

“No Problem.

Gerry poured the wine; they sat and talked until Gino brought out a selection of tapas for them.

Bonappatito; my friends.

Gerry and Jasmine tucked into the tapas. Jasmine had not eaten all day and was hungry now. Then Gino brought out paella with Arborio rice, monk fish, chicken, king prawns and mussels.

“This is a wonderful place Gerry; how do you know Gino?

Well my father brought me here as a boy and I’ve been coming here ever since.

After their main course Gino brought out two glass bowls of tiramisu; there was two sparklers in each and Jasmine applauded as they were brought out.

They tried to eat the dessert but Jasmine and Gerry was both full after having had a second helping of paella. They just managed a few spoonfuls.

“When the meal was over Gerry went to pay the bill but Gino said that this was on the house as any family member of Antony Fernandez was welcome in his restaurant. Jasmine kissed Gino on the cheek and thanked him before they both left.

“Can we have a walk along the beach Gerry; I need to digest this meal.

“Of course; I can take you home later if you wish.

I would like to spend the night with you Gerry if you don’t mind.

I was hoping you would say that.

Jasmine took off her heels then walked down the bank and onto the beach; the tide was going out as they walked hand in hand along the sands.
