May Fletcher, 18 year old high school graduate from North Dakota. Not a huge fan of boybands, ESPECIALLY 5 Seconds of Summer. Sure, she thinks they're cute, and that they have good music. But it's just something about them that she completely despises. Maybe it's the fact that they are famous? Whatever it is, she just does not like them.
But her little sister, Evelyn Fletcher, 12 years old, is totally IN LOVE with them.
When Evelyn gets two tickets to a meet and greet for 5 Seconds of Summer, it is May's job to take her.
Somehow they get special entry, and when Calum Hood takes one look at May, he falls in love. He tries flirting with her, but she wasn't having it. Playing hard to get, aren't we May?
But things take a turn for the best (for Calum) when he 'accidentally' switches phones with May. This meaning that they will have to meet again, and he will have another chance to win her heart.
Will she fall for Calum as hard as he fell for her? Find out in 'Swap.'

5. Chapter 5: No Way Out

"So...I guess I should start out by saying that the reason I'm afraid of storms came about 5 years ago. When I was 13 years old..." I said, looking at Calum.

"My parents were out of town, so I had to find my own ride home from an emergency choir rehearsal. I couldn't find anyone to give me a ride, so I had to walk home by myself. A 13 year old girl, walking home alone at 6:30 in the evening, and I had a 45 minute walk ahead of me. I was ter..terrified." I stuttered, my lip started to quiver a little bit.

"I was about 25 minutes away from home, and it started to drizzle, the thunder was roaring in the distance. I didn't think anything of it at the time." I put my hand up to eyes, wiping away a few stray tears. "I started to speed up, not wanting to get too drenched. 10 minutes later, I was walking past an alley by a dollar store. Suddenly, a hand reached around me, covering my mouth, dragging me into the alley. Once I was able to look at the hands that were holding me, I looked straight into the eyes of a strange man, maybe in his mid-forties. I had never seen him before in my life." Calum had his eyes locked on me, the look in his eyes told me he already knew where this story was going.

"He looked me straight in the eyes, and just smiled, his hand still covering my mouth, As this was going on, the storm was growing stronger, and the thunder was becoming more constant. Without any words being said, he stripped all of my clothes off, and...and um..he," I started sobbing uncontrollably. Calum grabbed my hand and looked me in the eyes, urging me to finish.

"He raped me." I finished through tears. Calum shook his head, a sense of anger filling his eyes. "And because of the weather conditions the night that it happened, well...that's why I'm afraid of storms." I pulled my hand out of Calum's and I put it up to my face, continuing to cry.

"Oh, May...I had no idea...I completely understand why you're afraid of storms now." He said, putting a hand on my thigh, causing me to tense up. He immediately  pulled away, scratching the back of his head. "Sorry, it was just an instinct to comfort you." He said.

I smiled through my tears. "It's okay. You were only..." Before I could even finish my sentence, the lightning striked, causing all of the power to go out. I froze, unable to move.

"Oh crap." Calum whispered. "May, are you okay?" He asked, pulling his phone out, shining his flashlight on me.

I didn't say anything, just stared at him. The storm was still getting stronger, and the power was out, of course I wasn't okay.

"Alright, I'm going to go down the stairs and across the street really quick to see if the boys and your sister are okay, I'll be back." Calum stood up and started to walk away. "Wait." I grabbed his arm, stopping him. "Please don't leave me here alone." I whimpered.

Calum could see the fear in my eyes. "Then come with me, May." He helped me stand up, and we walked towards the door together, as I clanged onto his arm. I am being so weak right now.

We got to the door, and Calum turned the handle, but something we weren't expecting happened. The door wouldn't open. After seconds of confusion from the both of us, Calum's phone started to ring. He picked it up to discover it was Ashton."

"Hey Ash, are you guys okay?" He asked as he put his phone on the speaker. "Yeah, we're fine, don't worry. But here's the thing, apparently when the power goes out at this hotel, all of the doors automatically lock, meaning no one can get in, and no one can get out, until the power comes back on." Ashton said.

I looked at Calum and made a face. "Don't make that face at me, May! This isn't my fault!" I crossed my arms, and turned away, causing Calum to sigh.

"Anyway Cal, the boys, Evelyn, and I are going to get on the bus and crash there, since we obviously can't get into the hotel. We'll see you in the morning." Ashton finished. Right before he hung up the phone, I heard Eve in the background yell, "THIS IS THE BEST DAY EVER!" Then the line went dead.

"Great, this is just GREAT." I said, putting my hands over my face. "Can I do anything for you?" Calum asked. "I don't think you can." I said, slightly harshly, causing Calum to take a step back from me.

"I'm terrified of storms. The power is out. My little sister is stuck with three other boys that I hardly know, and I can't get to her. And here I am, stuck in a hotel room with a guy that I just met today, and frankly, I'm not too happy about it!" I ranted out, a few tears rolled down my cheeks as my breathing picked up.

"I didn't know being in a hotel room with me for one night was that bad..." Calum said, looking down. I automatically calmed my breathing, and I looked up at him. "You know that's not what I meant Calum...it's not like that." "Then what is it like?" He asked, a tone of hurt in his voice.

I sighed. "Calum...I need you to understand. It's difficult for me when I get into situations like this. I know I spent today getting to know you, and that's great. But the fact that I just met you today is all the same. We just met today, and I'm already spending the night in a hotel room with you, no way of getting out. It scares me to be honest...because of...what, um, happened. You know?"

"I know." Calum said, scratching the back of his head. "It's just a little hard for me too, you know?" He laughed to himself.

"How so?" I asked. "We did just meet today. And I know how extremely wrong it is to make a move on a girl I just met, but...dammit May. I can't help it when the way I see you, is the most beautiful thing in the world. The thing is though, I can never tell what you think. One minute it seems like you are comfortable with me. The next, it seems like I'm a nightmare in your eyes. I understand though, you have been through something tough. Something really tough. Although I already have my mind set on how I think about you...I'm going to give it time to see how you think about me. I want you to know that you have nothing to worry about when you're with me, I will never ever do anything to hurt you, okay?"

I looked at Calum for a second. Maybe he isn't such a bad guy...but I do have to give it time. I never really know who I can trust...

"Okay." I whispered out.

Although it was dark in the room, I could see Calum smile. "In the meantime, I'm going to focus on getting your mind off of the storm..." He said.

"And hopefully getting you to see just how fast I'm already falling for you." He said as quietly as humanly possible.

What he didn't know though, was that I could hear him loud and clear.
