4. Chapter 4- Announcement

I normally love science, but watching Sydney flirt with Luke right in front of me was putting me off.

"Cathy? What is the difference between a fungi and a germ?" The teacher asks, I look down at my book and answer. Everyone laughs that I knew it. I see Sydney and Luke holding hands behind the desk, she starts to rub his knee. Martin, who's at the front of the room, doesn't notice her flirting.

"Ok, I want you all to make a colourful poster about germs! The best ones go on the wall!" Yes, it sounds like we're in preschool but my teacher was serious. I grab all my coloured pens from my pink, fluffy pencil case. Luke looks behind him, and sees me. He whispers to Sydney and she nods. Luke gets up and walks to the front of my desk.

"Help me." He whispers, "I need some pens. Give em." He sounds threatening but it's just because Sydney is watching him. As he picks up the dark blue pen, a piece of paper is left of the table. How did he write a note while sitting right next to Sydney?

I unfold the note and read it,

"I heard there was an assembly again before we go home, meet me outside the gates, ten minutes after the bell." I grin my face off, the rest of the lesson I'm smiling like an idiot.

"Ok, I know your all excited about summer-" the whole crowd roars. People are highfiving each other and slapping each others backs. Luke joins in and instead of reading my book like any other assembly, I watched him.

"But we have one more exciting thing to do." The head teach lets everyone murmur for a while to think about it. I think also, I feel as though the school year should already be done, even though I don't want it to.

"James?" The boy he called on shouts,

"Football game?" He looks around at the guys faces while the the girls boo. The head teacher says no and picks Sydney's best friend, Jasmin.

"Volleyball game?" The boys boo just as loud as the girls did. I laugh when Sydney get up and shouts out an answer that gets everyone's attention.

"Of course! Prom!" The head teacher gives her an applause and explains that it can either be and not ask girl or a girl ask boy prom. It was in one week. And I don't have a date.

Martin strolls over to Sydney and kisses her passionately, once the teachers have left the room.

"Prom?" He questions, the whole room oohs and aahs. She nods and wraps her arms around his neck. Luke looks at me when the bell goes. I don't follow the rest of the crowd, I leave through the back doors, closer to the front gates. Waiting for Luke.
