When the piers were in sight Albert told his crew to make ready to unload their catch as quickly as possible he line the boat up with the low light and guided the Misty Dawn into the harbour.

Inga was fascinated with the place and kept asking questions about North Shields. Once tied up the unloading began and the popper Lorries took the fish to market where they were snapped up at top prices. Albert knew that he had doubled what they had got last time but would the final cheque reflect this.

“His expectations were high as the harbour master recorded 800 boxes which was a record for that year.

The total came to £51.000 pounds

That would be nearly a thousand pounds a man in wages.

Once the fish was unloaded and everything put safely away Albert brought Inga onto the dockside. They walked the Dolphin pub where Albert waited to talk to Kim Thomson.

When she eventually came over Albert asked if she would kindly put up Inga for a few days until she could find work.

Kim agreed after Albert introduced Inga.

He bought Inga and Kim a drink then gave her a hundred pounds as rent and board.

Right I have to go put this cheque into Lloyds bank then I’ve got to go home.

Don’t be surprised if I’m not back tonight as there will be fireworks.

Albert walked out of the bar and found his van then drove off.

Kim chatted to Inga and asked how she knew Albert.

Inga told her how they met and how he agreed to give her passage to North Shields in order that she could find work.

“What kind of work are you looking for Inga?

I’m looking to do hotel reception work; that is what I was doing in Spitsbergen.

After her drink Kim took her up stairs to the flat above the bar. She showed her around and told her to make herself at home.

Inga unpacked her holdall then placed her toilet things in the bathroom.

“Do you mind if I take a bath Kim?

“Of course not Inga; all the things are in the cabinet and the bath cleaning stuff is in the cupboard under the sink.”

“Thank you.”

“You are welcome.”
