Carl Allen rang the number Doreen had given him he waited until she answered.

“Hello Doreen?

“Yes came the reply is that you Carl?

“It is; look I was wondering if you were free for lunch today?

“As it happens I do not have a prior engagement, where do you suggest?

I can pick you up or meet you Doreen it’s up to you.

“Seems rather silly taking two cars don’t you think?

“Yes, I agree, what time you picking me up then?

“At eleven forty five?

“I will see you in anon then, bye.”

Carl hung up then set about getting ready he put on a blue retro mod shirt a pair of Levi jeans and his suede boots he wore his blue mod jacket.

He was going to pick Doreen up on his Vesper motor cycle but thought better of it.

“He got into the triumph spitfire and started the engine.

Doreen was waiting for him when he arrived and he opened the door for her to get in.

She slid in then gave Carl a gentle kiss.

“You look amazing he said and your hair you’ve had it cut.

“Do you like it she exclaimed?

“I love it Doreen.”

Her hair had been cut in a sixties modern style. It was shorter than she was used to but it took years off her. Not that she was old at thirty one.

She worn a red falling flowers mini skirt and black shoes with a white cardigan with the sleeves pushed up to her elbows, she had a little black hand bag which matched her attire.

Carl drove to Blythe to a little pub on the seafront.

“This looks rather quaint said Doreen, I hope you don’t bring all your girl friends here.

“Only the nice one’s Carl added with a smile.

Once inside Carl asked for a menu and ordered a bottle of wine to drink with their meal.

Carl ordered a Caesar salad to start then ordered steak and ale pie with creamed potatoes and a medley of steamed vegetables.

“That sounds nice said Doreen; I Think I will have the same main course except I will have a ham salad to start please.”

The waiter took the menus away then brought the bottle of wine he opened the bottle at the table then poured a little into the glass for Carl to try. He sniffed at the wine then swirled it around in the glass before tasting it.

That’s fine he told the waiter who said that their salads would follow presently.

“I see that you like your fine wines Carl.

“Yes I have a good selection at my house in Gosforth, you will have to come he added.
