Albert and Andy reached the dockside at nine in the morning Albert paid for the taxi then said he would see Andy later. He ran down to the wooden ladders and jumped on deck then went inside before he was soaked with the driving rain.

The lads all cheered as he walked into the galley where they were having breakfast.

“Would you like a mug of tea skipper ask Ralphie?

“No I’ve had breakfast.”

Alvin chirped in; “he even got his just desserts as well last night.”

“Alright; what went on in Spitsbergen last night stays in Spitsbergen do you hear me?

“Aye, aye, skipper.

Now as you can all see the weather is terrible out there so we are going to have to stay here another night. I want you all to add more ice to all the fish we’ve caught or we will lose the catch if it defrosts before we get back.

“Already done skipper said Alvin; I had the lads do it this morning whist you were erm you know; touching his nose in a gesture of secrecy.

There is little else we can do in this weather so if you want to get your heads down do it. By the way where are Mick, Tony, and John?

“I think they had the same idea as you Skipper.”

“Well there’s no urgency now but what if we had been sailing this morning?

“Tell them to come and see me when they get in.

“Aye, aye, skipper.”

Albert and Alvin went to the wheelhouse where they took out a map to plot the quickest route back home.

Alvin pointed out a point on the map then drew a line in pencil to North Shields.

“This maybe the quickest way Al’ what do you think?

“You could be right; I reckon we could be there in about twenty eight hours weather permitting.” “If we can get the wind behind us maybe even quicker skipper.”

Ralphie set about making a beef stew with mashed potatoes for dinner to warm everyone up. He also prepared Jam rolly poly for pudding. Mick, Tony, and John turned up fifteen minutes later they came to the wheel house and apologised to Albert;

They told him that they had to wait for a taxi. “Well if you guys are out tonight I want you back early because once that storm breaks we are leaving.”

Aye; aye, skipper.”
