“We can walk along to Lord Collingwood’s monument and in Tynemouth if you like?

I walk a lot in Huddersfield Tom.

“I would have thought you would have a car being a teacher.”

“I do but on the weekend I like to get out and walk.”

“Do you drive Tom?

“Yes but I do not have a car now; I had to sell it as it was costing me too much to run.”

“Since the Tories got in the prices of things have rocketed.”

“Don’t start me off on politics Tom she laughed.”

“Okay we won’t go there.”

They passed the “Black Middens” there were other people walking their dogs and others cycling.

The tide was out and the rocks were covered in seaweed and algae. Looking on Sandie could see Tynemouth pier. I never get sick of seeing this place we have so much history here Tom.

“I often come down here myself just for a walk too said Tom.” The priory Castle is one of my favourite places.

“I teach my students about the history of Tynemouth and North Shields.”

They walked up the bank and Tom suggested they go for lunch in the “Gibraltar Rock”

“Oh let’s said Sandie and get a seat by the window so we can look out onto the castle.”

The waiter showed them to a table that Tom had suggested and gave them a menu and asked if they would like a drink.

“Could I have a pint of Best Scotch and a Vodka and orange please?

The waiter left them to look at the menu.

“Would you mind if I smoked Sandie?

“No; I was wondering if you had given up after seeing you smoking last night.”

“I was just trying to impress, but I’m gasping for a cigarette now.”

There’s no need to impress me Tom; I’m no different to you.”

“I will prove it to you.”

“How are you going to do that?

“Order me fish and chips with mushy pea’s.

Tom and Sandie laughed together before he said “Take the girl out of Shields but not Shields out of the girl.”

The waiter brought their drinks over then asked if they were ready to order.

“Yes; we will both have the fillet of cod and chips with mushy peas please.”

When the waiter had gone they both giggled again.
