31. Kilo Chapter 31

After work Jack came home and told Katie and his mother the news.
“Your father would be so proud of you Jack.
“Well the date has been set today Jack said his mother, it’s the 10th of March.
“It will be here before you know it so we have to make preparations?
“Yes said Jack I want this day to be perfect for us.
“Oh by the way the postman brought you a letter today.”
“Who from?
“I don’t know but it is sealed with a stamp of wax.”
Jack took the letter from his mother then sat down at the table and broke the seal.
It was from Sir Jeffery Rochdale asking if we could bring the Child known as Tilly to Hartford Manor. There would be a car sent for us this Sunday at 11 am.
“I knew this would happen mam. ‘Now that Tilly is old enough and walking about they want her. Well they can all go to hell mother.”
“They cannot take her from us Jack there is no proof that Tilly is Edwards son is there?
I made the birth certificate out in the Rochdale’s name mother. “He must know this; we have no choice but to comply with his wishes.
“They would have heard the bands being read out in church so they know that I’m to be wed as well.”
“This is a nightmare mam, what are we to do?
“Keep calm for a start said Kate. ‘ There must be some way we can stop this man.
What about Nigel? He is bound to know some lawyer friend go and have a word with him Jack.”
“Alright I will go round now, come  on Kilo Jack put on his over coat and hat then stormed out taking the letter with him.
It didn’t take him long to reach Nigel’s, Gino let him in after greeting him at the door.
“What’s wrong my friend?
“Is it that obvious?
“Jack I have known you long enough to know when something is on your mind old chap.”
“Every time I come here it is always a favour.”
“That’s what friends are for darling, now tell me.
“Jack handed the letter for Nigel and Gino to read.”
“I see said Nigel and the child is registered in Edward Rochdale’s name right?
“Yes, do you know anyone who can help us?
“I do but they won’t do it for nothing Jack you would have to pay them.
“I have savings, I could use those.”
“Yes and you would end up bankrupt darling.”
“What’s to be done then Nigel?
“Leave this letter with me and I will get back to you.”
“Don’t worry my friend; we will get through this together.”
