1. Engulfed By Waves

The salty air submerges her being,

Strands of her hair willing for freedom,

Flailing in tangled knots.

Waves reaching for the comfort of land,

But the ocean forbids that to happen,

Bringing it back to its volatile heart.

Seagulls, sirens for the ocean edge,

They cry for our attention,

A warning: “Attention, something is about to happen.”

Fishermen, far out to get away from the crowds,

Destroying the hidden land below,

Sweeping everything, caging it for mouths to feed.

Lighthouses, selfish and only looking out for one kind,

Looking out for those who are already out in the water,

Not those who are about to join.

A cluster of boulders marking their land,

Seaweed clothing their bottoms,

And wet footprints where one stood.
