10. Claiming (Part 2)

The world had been white for only a short while, so it seemed to Sophie. Her endless search for a way out was only met with messages from the rumbling voice that had accompanied her to this land of void. She could never place it and often she'd asked it's name and the answer would always be the same.

I am you, and you am I. You are mine and I am yours.

The voice had annoyed Sophie with it's cryptic way of talking but it had kept her amused in this time of solitude. As she thought of maybe talking to the voice again, something new happened in front of her very eyes. A door appeared in the whiteness, it's smooth wooden frame luring Sophie in with it's colour and when she touched it, the coolness almost made her cry since it confirmed her suspicions that this was the way out. She wasted no time flinging it open and running through, the humming from before back in her ears.

Faint voices, the humming and something warm, rough clasping her hand. She could smell flowers, and the pinkish dark told her that she was staring at the back of her eyelids so she clutched the hand holding hers and opened her eyes slowly, letting her eyes become accustomed to the lighting. Finding herself staring into a very teary and startled Orik and an amazed Jason. Joined by a shocked nurse who wore a forced smile, like she was seeing somebody or something she didn't like and still had to be polite.

Sophie felt everything hurting, even places she didn't know could hurt did and it took its toll as she tried to sit up. Luckily Orik and Jason both raced to her rescue and propped her up with pillows, and looking around her, she knew she was in the infirmary. Empty beds were laid in neat rows opposite and next to her, a small curtain giving them some privacy. Though by the amount she could hear, there was nobody else on the ward. The nurse cleared her throat.

"I'll tell the doctor you can be dismissed now you're awake." Her voice was sweet but there was venom behind that honey coloured hair and those azure eyes. Sophie furrowed her brow as the nurse walked away and Jason sighed.

"That's Jarha, she's from a very noble family and she's angry that you got what she thought should've been her Creature." Sophie cleared her throat and then launched into a coughing fit, her eyes watering as she croaked.

"W...What d-do y....you mean?" Orik and Jason exchanged looks and then their eyes softened, Orik held her hand tighter.

"Your Creature," He started, pausing to collect his thoughts. "is something we thought was extinct, and had been for thousands of years..."

"Meaning that you," Jason looked her straight in the eye but Sophie turned her head to face Orik instead. "Sophie, you. Have received a Royal Class Creature. A type that only hatch wild or for royal or kalpir family."

Sophie slowly turned to look at Jason, the words sinking in and her sleepy sunset eyes blinked slowly. The gears turning in her head and then she went ever paler. Orik looked like he was about to call for a nurse but Sophie squeezed his hand and shook her head, not speaking anymore but swallowing dryly. There was a clicking sound echoing down the halls, and the nurse walked back in with clean cotton gloves and what looked like a sketchbook and pencils.

"Boys out and you," Her gaze turned to Sophie and made her skin crawl with how much hatred there was inside those eyes. "shirt off, we need to sketch your mattork." Jason and Orik left her alone with the nurse, and she slowly removed her top, feeling exposed and humiliated at the situation.

The nurse moved shoved her forward roughly and pinned her down by her neck as Sophie could hear scratching of pencils on paper behind her. Although her breathing was fairly restricted, sleep came easily to her as her mattork was catalogued and recorded for evidence.
