Every Other Weekend (Payzer/Sophiam)

Ali and Rachel Payne are devastated when their parents, Liam and Danielle split, and are suspicious about their dad's new girlfriend, Sophia.

16. Only Just A Dream

I lay in my bed, staring up at the ceiling.

Did last night happen? I remember being at James's house, and wearing his hoodie for a while, but was it a dream I just woke up from?

I sigh, imagining what it would be like if James and I were a thing. Would we be a cute couple? Would we be that couple people envy?

My thoughts are interrupted by a knock on my bedroom door.

"Ali, are you awake?" My dad calls from the other side of the door.

"Yeah, I'm up."

I swing my legs over the edge of my bed, walking over to my closet to pick an outfit for the day. I pull on a light blue Aeropostale hoodie, pairing it with navy blue skinny jeans and black converse. I brush through my hair, and throw it up in a messy bun.

I go into the bathroom and quickly add a light amount of eyeliner to frame my eyes, and put on mascara.

I tilt my head to the side as I look at my reflection.

I wonder if James would like it? I purse my lips, before shaking my head. Ali, don't be ridiculous. You haven't even known him that long. Don't be a try-hard.

"Ali, Sophia and I are going to be gone until later tonight and Rachel has to cheer at the football game tonight, so you're gonna be home alone, okay?"

"Okay," I shrug, pulling my leftover chicken alfredo from last night out of the microwave.

"You seem to be in a good mood."

I shrug again.

"Okay, well bye, Ali."

"Bye, dad."

"Don't set the house on fire when I'm gone."

He walks out the door, and I return to my episode of 'The Vampire Diaries'.

I sit on the couch, eating my chicken alfredo, my eyes fixed on Stefan Salvatore. I didn't notice when my phone vibrated in my pocket, notifying me that I got a text from James.

Sophia's POV

I scroll through the list Liam sent me of gifts to get for the girls.

Since their sweet 16 is next weekend, I offered to do all the shopping while Liam checks out the venue, and arranges the big surprise he has for Ali. I've hired a friend of mine to do decorations for the party, and my cousin will DJ. We want to make this huge for the twins, and I'm really excited for some of the things we have planned for them.

After a few hours of shopping in Times Square, I have everything we need for the girls, and the retail therapy I've been craving for weeks.

I haul dozens of shopping bags into the trunk of my car, my body welcomes the warmth of my front seat when I turn on my car. I hum along to 'Style' by Taylor Swift as I drive home, trying not to lose my patience in the New York traffic.

I open the door, hoping Ali is in her room, so I can easily sneak past her with my huge load of unwrapped gifts.

To my relief, when I walk in the living room, she lays peacefully on the couch, sleeping with the TV on. I tiptoe over to the TV and turn it off, proceeding to walk upstairs to the room I share with Liam.

Ali's POV

"Thanks for coming to the dance with me," James says, staring down at the ground while we wait for his mom.

"No problem. It was really fun," I smile, and he looks up.

Slowly, he starts to lean in, planting a soft kiss on my lips.

"Ali," he gently shakes my shoulder. "Ali, wake up!"

I groan, and blink rapidly, my eyes adjusting.

"Hey," my dad whispers. "I'm sorry to wake you up. I was trying to watch Star Wars and your phone kept going off. Some guy named James?"

I bite my lip, and my dad hands me my phone.

"Not to be an overly protective dad or anything, but is he-"

"No, he's just a friend," I assure him. For now at least. "Well, I'm gonna go to bed. Good night, dad."

"Good night."

I walk upstairs, my phone in hand, and when I reach my bedroom, I waste no time in closing my door and unlocking my phone.

James: Hey, are you busy this weekend? Maybe we could hang out.

-Would you like going to Skate City or something?

-Are you there?

-Did you die?

Me: Hey, I'm here. Sorry, I fell asleep. I'd love to hang out this weekend, and I'm down for whatever. :)

James: Awww, haha sorry if I annoyed you with all the texts. And cool. So I'll pick you up tomorrow at 5? How does Central Park sound?

Me: Sounds great, I'll see you then. I'm gonna go to bed now though, so good night. :)

James: Good night. Sleep well.
