11. Home Again, Home Again

When we got home we traded stories. "I loved it!" Talia gushed. "Eh, it was okay," Madi shrugged. "I don't want to go back. I'm happy here," I said. "Same," Madi agreed. The boys walked in and I groaned. They had a girl with them. Two girls. They were talking and laughing. "I'm Sydney Dier (de-AIR)," the taller one said. She had straight brown hair, and hazel eyes. She also had braces. "I'm Bailey Howler," the other one said. She had dark blonde hair and green eyes. She was a little...well fed, let's just say that. "Hi! I'm Talia! That's Madi, and that's Clarissa!" Talia smiled. "I've heard a lot about you Clarissa," Sydney said. "Some good, some bad. One thing's for sure, you don't want me on your bad side," she warned. I liked this girl! "I think I'm gonna go take a nap. It was a long journey," I lied. "From where?" Tanner asked. "I just got back from Beauxbaton Academy. So did Talia. Madi just arrived from Durmstrang Institute," I explained. "Oh," is all Bailey said. She was shy. So it seemed.

I didn't realize that Sydney and Bailey had a dorm next to us. Er, down the hall. We were on one end, on the left, and they were on the other, on the right. There was a bathroom between us, but we had our own. It was built into the dorm walls. Sometimes, if we forgot the password into it, we would use the other. Yeah, we had to have a password to get into our own bathroom. The entrance was hidden by a bookshelf. We had to say the password of the month to move the bookshelf. On the bulletin-board in the common room there'd be a riddle. This month (March) said-

First think of the person who lives in disguise,

who deals in secrets and tells naught but lies.

Next tell me what's always the last thing to mend,

(the middle of middle and end of end?

And finally give me the sound often heard during the search for a hard-to-find word.

Now string them together, and answer this,

which creature would you be unwilling to kiss?

(A/N I didn't come up with that. JK Rowling did. I give all credit to her.)

The answer was obviously a spider. Most people couldn't figure it out for the life of them! But Talia looked at it, when Amelia, Dawnlight's prefect, first put it up. She looked at it for five or ten minutes and said, "GOT IT!!!" and rushed out. Madi had to look at it for a week, but I copied it down and looked at it in the dorm. "I understand it now!" I muttered. "Did you get spider?" she asked. "Uh huh," I said absentmindedly. Madi didn't get it for another week.

Most kids didn't know what it was for. I take that back, 95% of the Dawnlight House doesn't know what it's for. There are 68 Dawnlight kids. So what's the percentage? Yup, 64 of the 68 kids didn't know. Amelia, Talia, Madi, me, and Ally-Cat. Ali (or Ally-Cat) was a loner. She was kinda goth and emo. She said, "Don't worry. I won't tell." She's a nice kid, just on the wrong path.

"Jackie! Come 'ere for a sec! I have ta talk to ya!" she called. She called me Jackie, Jackie's short for Jacqueline. Jacqueline is my middle name. I walked over to her. "Yeah Ali?" I asked. Ali had really short black hair that she spiked. She had electric blue and neon green streaks in it. She only had her ears pierced twice. Her makeup was black and dark grey, so was her clothing. I was shocked that Sonara let her stay. Nell was just there to step in for her. I just said that she died, just to see if you were paying attention. And you were. I think... She was from New Jersey. "Hey," she greeted. "Hi." All my friends thought she was weird. Like, she did drugs and alcohol and stuff. She didn't though. She just liked dark colors. There is nothing wrong with that!!! "So... I just wanted to tell you something," she began, "I was kicked out of my dorm." "WHAT!!!" "Yeah, Sydney and Bailey kicked me out. Can I stay with you gals?" "I don't know. I'd take it to Sonara first. She'll know what to do." "Okay." Her face dropped. I guessed she really wanted to stay with us. I said she didn't do drugs, and I was correct. For the most part. She did do them earlier in life. But she started hanging around me and she stopped. Like magic.

I just realized I said that. This is a school of magic... Face-palm.
