19. An Early End

The end of the year came faster than the previous years. (A/N Yes, I know my previous book have had 24 chapters, but I couldn't think of anything else to write about. Sorry. Don't worry, the rest of the chapters will be in the summer time)

We packed up our stuff and headed to the Dining Pavilion for the end of the year feast.

"This was a really fast year, wasn't it?" Talia asked.
"Yeah," Madi agreed. I nodded and looked to the now open doors. I hadn't realized that the doors were open the whole time, but two people walked in.

Max and Tanner.

Our friend, Bri, had told me a few weeks before, "I kinda like Max. Okay, okay, I really like him."
I told Max and he told me, "Don't worry." I wasn't sure what that meant, but I was sure that Max knew what he was doing.

Max sat on the other side of me, that wasn't taken up by Talia, and Tanner sat by Madi. She sat across from Talia, and on Madi's other side was our other friend, Morgan  (A/N Remember Blizzard12989? She shared a bunk with Tobie).

"Look!" Someone said. About 100 owls came through the doors. Dropping a letter and/or package for everyone.

Mine was a letter, from home.

It's not you, it's me. I'm so sorry but we cannot be together. I am going to Salem next year and you cannot come with me. (Salem is a wizard school.) I know you go to boarding school, and you're a muggle. I want to be with you, but I can't.

I'm so sorry,

Your boyfriend, Thomas

Max looked over my shoulder at the letter.

"Who's Thomas?" He asked. He sounded, and looked, a little hurt.

"I- He-" I sighed. "It's complicated."

"We have time, explain," Tanner said.

I thought about it, and finally said, "Thomas was the boy that lived across the street from me. I knew he was a wizard, but I never told him. He thought we were in a relationship, but we weren't. I tried to tell him about you, Max, but he'd never listen."

There was dead silence.

In that silence I broke down. I knew I was going to cry the whole time, I felt it coming, but I tried to delay it.

"I'm sorry," I said quietly, through sobs.

I ran off, fully knowing that one of them would follow me.

I thought it would be Talia, because that's her thing. To follow us and make sure we're okay.

But Max followed me. "Snowflake!" I heard him call. I stopped dead in my tracks. No one had ever called me Snowflake, but only one person ever had. Merik, my first crush/boyfriend.

It wasn't possible. Unless Max knew about Merik.

Merik was killed in a fire three years ago.

"I see you there, Snowflake," Merik's voice said. No, it couldn't be. "I know you think it's impossible, but I'm here," he said. I turned around, and Merik was standing there.

I started bawling. Merik was dead, it was an illusion. "What's wrong, Snowflake?" Merik asked me.

"No," I said quietly. "What?" He asked. "Why do you call me Snowflake?" I asked.

"That's what I've always called yo-" He stopped. "Merik?" I said, almost silently.

"Yeah, Snowflake, it's me," He said. "But how? How are you alive?" I asked.

"I don't know," he said, stroking my hair.

"Your hair smells like coconuts," he said randomly. We burst out laughing.
