I Won't Speak

A suitcase. A mystery. A popstar. A selective mute. And a friendship everlasting.

9. Chapter Nine: Hiding Away

I stormed into my hotel room and slammed the door shut. Locking it. I threw the Justice bag on the bed and slumped against the door for barely a second before a punched the door.

"Ow!" I yelled, shaking my hand and wincing. Breathing heavily, I managed to calm down a little bit when I heard a small cry from the closet.

"Lynn, oh Lynn." I said softly, opening up the closet door. Lynn was slumped over, asleep. Her hands were over her ears and she was curled into a small ball, whimpering. Softly, I picked her up and brought her into the main area of the hotel room. I set her down on the floor, then stood up and locked the door.

"Lynn." I softly shook her shoulder. "Lynn, you just gotta get in the suitcase, and you can go back to sleep, alright? Please, just wake up, for a moment."

"No," she mumbled, and I stumbled back slightly, shocked. "No, Daddy, don't make me. Don't hurt me!" She screamed, and then her eyes opened, wider than I had ever seen them and utterly terrified. I stared at her, my eyes nearly as wide as hers.

"You- you talked." I said, but Lynn looked at me quizzically and shook her head.

"You did!" I said. "You talked!"

Lynn only shook her head again.

I threw my hands in the air. "Fine. But you talked. You said- you said "no, daddy, don't make me. Don't hurt me."

Tears bubbled up in Lynn's eyes before she turned away angrily, running to the suitcase and jumping into it. She jabbed her finger at the lock before curling up the same way she had been when I first found her.

Sighing, I locked her in. "I sure hope this suitcase is soundproof. If you cry out again, I don't want the boys to hear. You okay?"

Lynn thumped once on the suitcase, and then was silent.
