I Won't Speak

A suitcase. A mystery. A popstar. A selective mute. And a friendship everlasting.

5. Chapter Five: The Other Side of the World

The dizzying height of the window disorientated my senses. "Lynn!" I called desperately.

And then, I heard it.

The tap ran for a bit before I heard the toilet flush. "Lynn!" I yelled in relief, dashing to the door. It opened slowly to reveal Lynn herself, looking very confused. "Speak! Say something for gods sake!" I said. "Why don't you ever speak, can you please, please talk to me? I thought you had jumped out the window!" I finished, pointing towards the open window.

Lynn stared at me quizzically, before running to the closet. As fast as she was, I got there before her, blocking it before she could hide.

"I've got to take you somewhere. I can't keep you here!" I said, running a hand through my hair. "Maybe- maybe the police- I don't know."

Lynn's face scrunched up in determination. Her hands balled up into fists, and her leg shot out, catching me in the shin. "Hey!" I yelled in surprise, but she had already dashed between my legs and into the closet.

I sighed, peering into the closet. "Come on, now. You know I can't keep you here. I'm... I'm too famous, someone would find out."

Lynn's eyes widened in fear for a second, silent tears slipping down her cheeks.

"Where is the address you gave me?" I felt around in my pockets until I pulled out a crumpled piece of paper.

133 Portobello Road, Notting Hill

Quickly, I typed the address into my phone. "Oh..." I groaned. "It's in London. That's like, the other side of the world, or something."

Lynn nodded before burying her head in her hands again.

"And we're not going back to London until..." I squeezed my eyes shut, thinking. "Like, a month and a half! How am I gonna hide you until then?"

Lynn lifted her head to look at me questioningly.

I sighed. "No. I'm not gonna take you to the police." I decided.

A smile lifted on Lynn's lips.

"You're gonna have to hide a lot, though." I warned. "If you get found out, well-" I shook my head. "They're gonna take you away, and you won't ever find- I mean get to- well, wherever this place is. A bakery."

Lynn frowned, but nodded.

Once more, I sighed. "I'm gonna order pizza. I need to leave in an hour, alright? I've got a concert tonight."
