My Weight Loss Diary

This is a diary that I will be keeping over the next year. It will contain my progress, and also highlight the ups and downs of losing weight.


1. Saturday 16th May 2015

Dear Diary,

Okay so I'll start off by introducing myself. As you can tell from my username, my name is Kayleigh. I'm 16 (17 in just over 2 weeks), and I live in England. 

This diary that I will be keeping for the next year, will not just only show my progress, but will also hopefully highlight the struggles of losing weight and teenage girl's body image issues.

Like most teenage girls, I've always wanted the perfect body - skinny and bikini ready. However, I've found that it is incredibly hard to achieve that ideal image.

I began my diet at the start of March on the day of my A-Level Photography exam. I realised at this point, that I was quite chubby and eating a lot of food everyday! I decided that enough was enough and I had to do something about it. My older brother (25) had proposed to his girlfriend of 3 years on the February 18th, and had set the date for the 23rd August of this year. Being one of the groom's sisters, I automatically became a bridesmaid, meaning that I would have to be able to fit into a bridesmaid dress for the big day! 

Out of all the wedding things, the shoes were delivered before the dresses. With my dinky size 5 feet, I would have no trouble fitting into the shoes, but then my brother's fiancee, Natalie brought the dresses round to try them on. The other bridesmaids, minus me and my younger sister, managed to all fit into theirs. Turns out the place where we got the dresses from got the sizes wrong for me and my sister, Caitlin, so they had to be re-ordered in a bigger size.

Unfortunately, my new dress still didn't fit and I had to up my game and take losing weight seriously.

I had thought about it over night, and come the next day, I introduced a better exercise routine. I had weighed myself that day and found that I was in fact 12st 2lbs! Looking it up, I found that I was overweight for my age and height (5ft 4in). I soon began using my Wii Fit Plus a lot more, doing exercises from each category: Training Plus, Yoga, Strength Training, Aerobics and Balance games. When given the option between a male and a female personal trainer, I opted for the female one, and proceeded to begin my workout session. Needless to say, after 1 hour I decided to change to the male trainer, because I kept calling the female one a bitch for making me do the intense workouts.

After 1 week of exercising and maintaining my healthy eating, I found that I had lost 3lbs! However, the next day my 'monthly' arrived and I found that I had gained the 3lbs back because of the bloating! To say that I was upset was an understatement. I tried to carry on exercising, but found that the cramping was excruciating and my energy levels were so low, I couldn't maintain working out until the 'visitor' was over. Luckily, I am on the Pill, so it was over in 3 days.

I weighed myself last Saturday, and found that I was 11st 12lbs. My mum told me to weigh myself once every week in order for the 'best results'.

This brings us today, where I have somehow gained a pound and am now 11st 13lbs. I was disappointed in myself for the extra pound, but then realised that I couldn't have possibly made it happen, because I had been maintaining my healthy eating and exercise. I've pushed it to the back of my mind, and am now concentrating on losing it.

Tomorrow, I have another dress fitting. I'm hoping that I will be able to fit into the dress, and if i can't, then I will keep trying!

I'm going to need as much luck as possible!
