Poetry 365 Challenge: A Poem A Day - 2015

I started this on Inkvite, then Wattpad, now I'm trying out Movellas!

There is no real prize as such, just the adventure of expression, and bettering ourselves as writers.

I'm no poetry expert but used to enjoy writing poems in school. So thought this could be fun and a good way of improving writing skills.

There are no major rules, you can write in any style of poetry you like, as long and short as you like.

I will set set various topics or themes, but again, you can follow your own path if they don't appeal to you.

For example, I think the first poem we write should be on the theme of "New Year's Resolutions" posted on 1st Jan 2015.

I will post the current theme at the top of this page regularly.

Hope you guys like this idea please leave comments letting me know if you support it.

Please share on social media and with your followers if you feel so inclined.

I'm going to use the tag 365 in this so we can find each other's work.

Note: my poems are only semi-biographical!

26. 26th Jan: The Narcissist

Date: Monday 26th January 2015

Style: Free Verse

Title: The Narcissist

Note: Dedicated to Dr. Craig Malkin who wrote an article for Huffpost.com called '5 Early Warning Signs You're With a Narcissist' which partly inspired this poem.

Watch out for The Narcissist

Much like a Mana Vampire

They may be unaware of their condition

The hate and pain they inspire

Not a shred of empathy

The grandiose plans and posturing

The rage at having imperfections exposed

The truth they insist on doctoring

Dangerous people rarely advertise their villainy

Slipping into your life unnoticed

They'll be signs of trouble from the start

Which'll bite you in the arse if you're unfocused

The Narcissist is small and insecure

They'll project this vibe on to you

Catch this subtle hot potato of hate

Making you feel small and insecure too

Faint praise and purposeful misunderstanding

They abhor acknowledging emotion

For fear of being influenced at all

They don't admit to rage their devotion

The Narcissist has a fragmented family story

Contradictory and incoherent

Bought about by neglect and abuse

They pretend they had a perfect childhood, the lie apparent

The Narcissist puts people on pedestals

Idolising them as humans of perfection

Hoping some of it will rub off on them

Until they angrily realise their self-deception

The Narcissist is a control freak

Certain topics off-limits, making you feel nervous

They hate to rely on others, beware

The wrath of a disappointed narcissist, your disservice

Like a war of attrition on your will

Rather than an outright assault on your freedom

Take notice of these signs, you're in danger

They avoid vulnerability, remember this, it will be your wisdom
