3. Memories

Tris  P.O.V

Pain. Agony. Cold. The searing pain in wrists causes me to scream painfully. Every breath I take hurts my throat. An agonizing pain rushes through my head, my eyes look at the green tiles above my head. Where am I? It looks like a hospital, but why am I in a hospital? There is nothing wrong with me, is there? As I lay on the hospital bed motionless, the scents of unidentifiable food and medical substances invade my nose. Who am I? I can't remember, why can't I remember? A nurse walks into the room, she notices me awake and rushes away alarmed. My eyes feel heavy, as I long to slumber into a peaceful sleep. I remember waking up before, there was somebody there, a guy. He was very muscular, with beautiful deep blue eyes and a scar on his chin. There was something in his eyes, a sense of disappointment and loss. It hurt me to see him cry when I said I wasn't Tris. But, I wasn't. I didn't know who I am, but how can I be someone if I didn't know who I am? Four, that was the guy's name. Who names their child Four? It had to be short of something.

The guy was the reflection of the word broken, and his piercing stare seemed to look directly into my soul. Nobody else visits me here, except Four, but even he stands away like he's afraid I am going to hurt him. I hold myself limply on the hospital bed, as I feel an aching sensation pass through my body and to my head; it was excruciating. It was a pain like I had never experienced before. Every time I closed my eyes, I felt like I was hallucinating into the world of the devil. Images flashed through my head like memories rushing through my head.

Tobias wraps his strong hands around my waist, he smiles kindly at me.  I can see the love shining from his eyes. The cold winter sky is like a widow's sky, it begins weeping with grief. The clouds cough out balloons of wet moisture. The rain is incessant, it snaps and crackles like a bush fire. Just an hour ago, the blue sky was fragile and gentle, the soaring sun shined brightly.

"What are you looking at?" I ask him, watching the way he looks at me lovingly.

"I am just marveling at your beauty," Tobias tells me, stroking my cheek gently.

"Stop it, Tobias, you are making me blush," I say blushing pink, feeling embarrassed.

"Even when you blush you are still perfect. I can't believe you are mine." Tobias tells me, tucking a escaped lock of my hair behind my ear.

"Yours forever." I agree, nodding my head.

"Promise me," Tobias whispers to me, tears brimming in his eyes.

"Promise you what?" I ask curiously, cocking my head to one side.

"Promise me that you won't leave me alone, like my mother. Promise me, you will love me forever. But most of all, promise me you won't leave me alone." Tobias asks of me, tears trickling down his face.

He looks like a naive little boy, who just wants to be loved.

"I promise you Four, I will never leave you alone," I tell him, wiping his tears away.

It hurt me so much, to see him so lost, so broken. I will always be there for you Four. I love you.

Suddenly, I gasp out of shock. What was that? A vision or a memory. Four was there. I was there. I remember! Instantly, waves of pain cascade over me. I feel like a blanket of death is smothering me.

"Four!" I scream painfully, as I submerge into the darkness.
