A Universe Trapped in a Labyrinth

This is my boring and interesting and teenager life spanning from age 15 to 18 (May 2015-August 2018)
Within you'll find many re-inventions of myself, boy trouble, school trouble and life trouble. (Plus interesting bits I thought I would include as well).
Do you dare to enter the maze?

10. Dear Exams...

Entry: 10/?

Subject: Dear exams…

Tip/advice: #10 Have fun.

Dear Exams,

We meet you in schools where you determine how much education we get. You are the decider on where we get put on tables. You test whether we are in the right place. Competing with others and testing what we are supposed to know.

You test our memory not our knowledge. You are tricks and stress and worry and sickness when you are not needed. You are sleepless nights and tears in secret. You are the rest of our lives and you are pain.

Here’s an example of you:

“There are apples growing on a tree.

What is growing on the tree?

If you say ‘leaves’ you are wrong.”

It’s no use in thinking outside the box because you are right and outside the box isn’t. There are no other accepted answers besides ‘apples’. Remember it’s apples and not leaves, remember it is this and not that. Near enough answers are not satisfying enough even if we are .5 off an answer or one word out of place.

You are strict and unforgiving and immortal it seems. There are different stages of you. You are practice where we learn how to think in the way you want us to. The more we do the less mistakes we’ll make a mistake of thinking outside of your way of strict thinking. You follow us and you weigh us down.

But dare yourself you extraordinary brave human and run screaming into calm. We will stop fussing and caring because one day it’s all over.

You may be pain but you are also joy and elation when we pass or excel our expectations. You may be stress but you are freedom when revision is chucked into bins and you are but a memory. You are 5 paper cuts off the same damn revision book, you are vital hours of time taken for cramming information in, you are 50 + sheets of revision notes, 100 + flashcards but you are over.

You are:

 “Thank God it’s over,”

“I’ve failed but it’s all over.”

“Can’t go back now,”

“What did you get for question 6?”

“It’s all done?”

You are exams.

But we are free elves.

We are us and the day, when you unlatch yourself from us, will be soon and it will be a good day.
