What if one day you found out that the monsters you thought only existed in stories, were real?
Years after the discovery of Vampires, seventeen year old Jade and her twin sister Violet are sent to the very first Vampire Containment Facility. Also known as Campus Eternal.
At the school, Jade is confronted by Vampires who believe she can save them, but she doesn't think she is strong enough.
There is a man there who everyone is afraid of, he is personally responsible for the death of the last human at Campus Eternal. Even though people see him as wicked and cruel, she believes that he can help her save the Vampires.
The only question is: Is he willing to help her?

31. Prototype Ch. 28 - Victims of Love

I stood very still as I watched Ariel cry harder. She was covered in blood.

What was with everyone getting covered in blood today?

“What happened?” I asked.

“Brock” Violet said “He’s dead.”

I had to sit on the floor, almost every time I had a decent time with Lucian people died. Why the hell was that?

“His pack came back from Campus Inferno” Ariel said wiping at her eyes “They came for you and Violet.”

“Came for us why?” I demanded.

“To kill you” Ariel stated “You’ve survived longer than any human, they don’t want you to make it through the year.”

“Brock too?” I asked.

“I think he played me” Ariel cried.

Now that I really looked at Violet, she looked like she had taken a shower.

“Were you there?” I asked her.

Violet nodded “Brock tried to take me, but Ariel stopped him.”

“I killed him” Ariel sobbed “I killed him!”

That must be why Lucian left in such a hurry.

“I’m sorry” I said low “I am so sorry.”

She only nodded trying to maintain her tears.

“He said he wanted to save us, but he lied” Ariel said “He wants the Vampires to burn.”

I couldn’t imagine how she was feeling, the man she loved betrayed her.

I got up to sit next to her.

“It’s my fault” Violet spoke “Ariel.”

“No it’s not” Ariel stated “It was his fault.”

Violet’s eyes were red; they both must have spent a good deal crying.

“Is there anything I can do?” I asked.

She shook her head “I just need to sleep.”

I gestured to my bed and then to Violet’s “Wherever you’d like.”

She shook her head “I’ll go back to my room; I’ll talk to you guys later.”

When the door shut behind her I heard Violet cry harder.

I let out a sigh as I listened.

“Why would he do that to us?” she sobbed “I trusted him.”

“I have no idea” I said.

“I thought he was going to kill me Jade” she said “I was so scared.”

I got up and I laid on her bed with her, this time I was the one comforting her. I did what she always did for me, and I hummed the most random song.

Then we just fell asleep.

There was always something strange about death. Even though it happens every day, and we are surrounded by it, it changes you.

Everyone was gathered in Ariel’s room.

Zero sat on the bed with Ariel, with Violet and Juliet next to her. Zane stood by the door; I could see that he didn’t want to be here. Zane was here because of Brock.

Abel sat next to me on the bed across from the others. Landon wasn’t around much anymore, so he wasn’t here for his sister.

The room was dead silent, and it was beginning to get to me.

Brock was supposed to be one of us. He was supposed to help me and Violet get out of here.

How could he do this?

I keep asking myself that one question, but I can’t help but think he wasn’t like that this whole time. He loved Ariel and he would have done anything for her, but his pack pulled him in, they made him choose between his love and his family, and he chose wrong.

I glanced up at Ariel, and I wished more than anything that I could take that pain from her. I told myself that I could bare it for her, but I wasn’t sure how much I could take, I was becoming fragile. This world was truly different than the one I was raised in, it was terrifying. I was nearly choked to death by the man I believe I truly love, and that was barely yesterday.

This world was harsh and unforgiving. I had to change it, I had to fix it.

“What do we do now?” Violet asked.

I looked up to see all eyes on her.

Zane was quick to brush off the question, he merely shrugged.

Zero shook his head; he looked like he couldn’t think.

Abel stared forward; he was still going through the loss of Blaze.

Ariel didn’t know, she just sat there trying to keep herself from crying.

Juliet held Violet’s hand trying to reassure her.

It was up to me to speak.

“We fight” I said “We fix this.”

Everyone looked at me.

“Brock was forced to choose sides” I took a breath “If there isn’t a side to choose then no one else will die.”

Abel looked like he was taking in my words.

“I don’t want to lose anyone else” Ariel said.

“We shouldn’t have to lose anyone, we’re too young to be this broken” I said.

I know I stole Abel’s line, but I was inspired.

“We need to fight for freedom” I said “We need to fight so we don’t have to be scared anymore.”

“And to keep each other safe” Ariel added.

I nodded keeping my gaze on her “We can’t do it alone.”

Her gaze dropped “People don’t have hope anymore, it won’t be easy.”

“Nothing worth fighting for is easy” Abel finally spoke “So we fight like hell.”

This was real, it was really real. Now more than ever I had to try to get the Vampires and every other thing that goes bump in the night on our side.

I just wish that Lucian would help. I know he has a huge influence over the Vampires and the Demons; he just doesn’t do anything about it.

“So what are your plans for tomorrow?” Ariel asked randomly to everyone.

I glanced around the room to see everybody.

“I’m going with Violet” Juliet stated.

Violet nodded.

Ariel looked directly at me.

“Would you go with me?” Abel asked Ariel.

She looked surprised before smiling lightly “That would make me very happy, Abel. Thank you.”

“I’m not going” Zane stated.

Zero looked at him irritated before sighing “I’m going with Monica.”

I looked at him, he was taking Monica!?

“What about you?” Ariel asked me “Are you going?”

I hesitated before nodding.

“Did you ask anyone?” Violet asked me.

“Lucian” Abel spoke for me.

I only nodded.

“This is good” Ariel stated.

Everyone looked at her confused. She made it very clear that she hated Lucian, and that she wanted nothing to do with him.

“If anyone can help us get Vampires on our side it’s Lucian.”

I don’t know about anybody else here, but I was surprised to hear those words come out of her mouth.

“If he wants to help, it’s better for us” she stated.

“I thought you would be mad” I confessed.

She sighed “I’m far too tired to feel much of anything.”

I knew that feeling; much more that I would like to admit.

“I’m glad most of you are going” Ariel stated before looking at Zane “I would like for you to go, but if you don’t want to you don’t have to.”

Zane simply put his hands in his pockets.

It reminded me of Thanksgiving, when he danced with me.

“We should make sure we have everything ready for tomorrow.” Ariel stated before getting to her feet.

Violet nodded as Juliet followed her to the door.

Abel moved to talk to Ariel. Zero left and Zane just followed his brother.

I lingered for a minute before leaving.

I made my way to the cafeteria, all by myself.

Everybody was off getting ready, and I just wanted some time to breathe.

I needed time to think, but every time I got a thought my mind reverted back to Lucian and what he said.

‘I fucked you.’

My skin tingled, and I wanted to hear him say it again. I wanted him to do it.

I honestly wanted to be more than we are, if we were really anything at all.

Once I stepped into the cafeteria I filled my plate with random stuff before grabbing the first soda my hand made contact with.

I took a seat near the door and I ate until there was almost nothing. Somehow I ended up playing with the last of my food. Whatever it was before, it is now mush.

“How is it that I always find you here?”

My head shot up, to see Lucian.

Right away I noticed something different.

He ran his hand over his head “I know it’s short.”

All of his hair was gone; he basically had a buzz cut.

Even though I was used to his hair, I liked it better gone. I could see his face better.

He kept running his hand over his short hair, almost like he was self conscience about it.

“Just needed a change?” I asked.

“Something like that” he said.

I watched him stand there.

“Are you going to talk to me or stand there?” I asked.

His eyes changed, it looked like a mixture of irritation and surprise.

“Sit down” I told him.

He didn’t move.

“Lucian” I said.

He shut his eyes “I’m sure you already know what happened.”

I just stared at him.

“Brock” he said low.

I nodded “Ariel killed him.”

His expression changed, I wasn’t sure what it meant.

“What about the rest of his pack?” I asked “Why were you even there?”

He looked to the side; I could tell he was trying to think of how to say his next words properly.

“Brock and one other are dead” he stated “The other seven fled back to Campus Inferno.”

“Why did you go?” I asked.

“Immediate transportation for our unwanted guests” he stated “Is your sister alright?”

I nodded “Just shaken up.”

He nodded slowly.

I remembered the conversation I had with the others in Ariel’s room. About us having our own side, not Vampire, and not Werewolf, we would be team Freedom. I know the name sucked but it was just off the top of my head.

“I need to ask you something” I said looking directly at him.

“What is it?”

“We’re starting a new side” I stated “Join us.”

“Where is your question?” he asked.

“Will you help us?” I asked.

He looked down at me “I don’t think you realize what that would do.”

“I don’t care” I hissed “Anyone can join us; we are on the side that wants to see the world change.”

“What if I can’t?” he asked.

“You damn well better be on my side” I said standing up “Don’t you see how broken everything is?”

He just stared at me, his expression was blank.

“Vampires and Werewolves should not be fighting” I stated “They are practically brothers, and they are both apart of this.”

I watched his lips slowly curl into a smile.

“I know what I have to do now to save them” I said “We all have to be on one side, no more internal feuds, us against the world.”

“You’re hot when you talk strategy” he said.

“I’m serious” I stated “And we need your help, you have influence over so many of Vampires and Demons, we could really use numbers.”

“It becomes more dangerous if I get involved” he stated.

“My sister was almost killed today by someone who was supposed to be our ally” I stated “It’s been dangerous.”

“Alright” he said.

I felt a weight lifted off of me, and relief swept my body. He actually agreed to help us.

“Really?” I asked “No ‘Humans are more trouble than their worth’ speech?”

I changed my voice to make sure he caught my past irritation.

“None” he said “It is a good idea, and you’re right.”

I could only stare at him.

“But the actual battle plans should be left to me” he stated “And you should never be anywhere near the actual fighting.”

I glared at him “But I have to.”

“No” he shook his head “I can’t plan out allegiances with you constantly running in front of busses.”

When have I ran if front of a bus? He was just being an asshole now.

“Besides” he said “I still don’t know who we can trust.”

“What about Ariel and the rest of the group?” I asked “The ones who originally came to me to save you guys?”

“Ariel I believe won’t harm you, doesn’t mean I trust her” he stated “Zero and Zane are definitely questionable; they were both at Campus Inferno when Brock was there, and they came over here when he did.”

Both of them, I thought it was only Zane.

“What about Abel?” I asked “Still think he wants to kill me?”

He sighed “I overreacted, I know that now.”

I stared at him. Did he really just admit that he was wrong?

“He knows Blaze will come back” he stated.

“But you killed him” I stated.

“It all depends on Blaze” he stated “He is slowly reviving down there in the pit.”

“In Hell?” I asked.

“He is a Demon Jade” he stated “Demons come from the pit.”

Why the hell does he keep saying the word pit?

“When is the soonest he can come back?” I asked.

Lucian shut his eyes before squeezing the bridge of his nose “A couple years maybe.”

He is dead for years? But Lucian came back in a few weeks?

“Why years?” I asked “You came back in a few weeks?”

“We’re different” he glared at me “I am not a spawn of Satan.”

I knew that, he was an Angel.

“If I hadn’t been reduced to ash I would have come back in two or three days.”

Was he joking?

“Did you still want to go?” he asked “Tomorrow.”

That was completely random.

I nodded “Do you not want to?”

He shook his head “I was the one that asked you, I won’t be the one to back out.”

I smiled lightly “Good.”

“I expect cleavage” he stated.

I couldn’t help but laugh “Only if you wear a pink and red suit.”

“Not happening” he scowled.

“That’s what I thought.”

“I can however wear a red shirt.”

“Wear it then” I shrugged “I’m still not showing half my boobs.”

He only smirked as he looked at me.

“What?” I hissed.

“If I got you a dress” he said “Would you wear it?”

If he got me a dress? Would I?

“I swear if it is short enough to show my ovaries I will just burn it.”

“I know you don’t like that kind of thing” he stated “I wouldn’t want you to wear something you hate.”

“Then probably” I said “If you got me a dress, more than likely I would wear it.”

He gazed at me “I’m warning you now it won’t be black.”

“It better not be pink” I stated.

“It won’t be” he said “It won’t be red either.”

“Then what color?” I asked.

“I won’t be wearing red either” he stated.

“What color?” I hissed.

“I don’t think you know what color looks the best on you” he stated “But because you will probably obsessive over it, the color of your dress is going to be green.”

I just stared at him; I didn’t wear very much green.

“It will bring out the red in your hair” he said “But it won’t match those glasses.”

He made a face as he said glasses.

“Shut up” I hissed “You made me break my other pair, besides I like these ones.”

“I never said I didn’t like them” he said “I just said they wouldn’t match.”

“And what will you be wearing?” I asked.

He snorted “Black, obviously.”

“Alright” I said “When are you going to get this green dress?”

He just kept staring at me “As soon as this conversation is over.”

“Hmm” I said.

Neither one of us moved.

“What time will you be picking me up tomorrow?” I asked.

“Pretty early” he said “But you might want to tell your mom we’ll be out kind of late.”

I could hear the sarcasm in his voice.

“Well my curfew is ten” I stated “Think you can handle that stud?”

He just smirked “Can you?”

“Absolutely not” I stated “I eat at three in the morning, ten would make me starve.”

“Don’t worry you won’t starve.”

Again we both just stared at each other.

“You should probably get going” I stated “It’s getting late.”

He pulled out a phone to look at the time.

I gasped “You have a phone and I don’t have the number?”

“This isn’t a phone” he said with a smile “It is just your imagination.”

“Not it isn’t” I hissed “I demand the number.”

“Not now” he said “I have a dress to buy.”

Before I could respond he was gone.

I let out a sigh as I sat there. Tomorrow was Valentines Day, and I was going to the ball with Lucian.

Things were finally starting to look up in that department.

I woke up to the sound of gasping.

“What is this?” it was Violet.

I sat up to see her pointing at the long bag in front of my closet. It was one of those zippy bags they stuffed dresses in to make sure they didn’t get messed up.

Looks like Lucian found a dress.

She pulled the card off the front.

“He got you a dress?” she asked as she sat next to me.

I snatched the card from her as I pulled it open.

It was a catalog picture of a woman in a dark green dress, with a huge rack, and quite a bit of cleavage showing.

I glared at the picture; if this is the dress I’ll kill him.

I moved the picture aside and I read the small cursive handwriting. It was written perfectly.

I very much would have liked to see you in the catalog dress, but I think this one will make that one pale in comparison. Especially if it is on you. Don’t make me wait forever to see you in it.

 - Man who enjoys cleavage.

I found myself smiling, he was coming off as a pervy jerk, but in the end I’m sure it will all just be one huge romantic gesture.

Especially if he got a dress that didn’t show my chest.

I stared at the small amount of words before I headed for the bag hanging it front of my closet.

“What did it say?” Violet asked.

I didn’t answer. She didn’t understand our relationship so if I were to show her the card she would only think that Lucian was a pervert.

In all honesty he has held himself back, even when things were starting to get heavy.

He didn’t force himself on me even though he definitely had the strength to overpower me.

I stared at the bag, I was a little nervous about what might be inside.

“Jade?” I heard Violet ask.

I didn’t move, I just continued to stare forward.

I felt a hand on my shoulder and I jumped.

“Jeez” Violet sighed “You were totally spacing out there.”

I didn’t realize I was.

Finally I raised my hand to the zipper and I was slow to pull it down.

The first thing I could make out was the light green.

Once the full dress was in front of me I knew I would love it. It would end just above my knees and it had extremely short sleeves. The sleeves went just a little over my shoulder, and the curved V at the chest would barely reveal the top of my breasts. It was a flowy dress and at the abdomen it was almost like a corset, it almost appeared like one at least. There is also a very long tie that went around the back and hung down the front of the dress.

It was more than I was expecting it to be. Lucian really did find me a beautiful dress.

“Wow” Violet said from behind me.

“Isn’t it?” I asked almost in a daze.

I gazed at the dress and I noticed the box at the bottom.

Shoes too? Here I was thinking I would just wear my black flats.

I pulled the box out to open it. It was like Christmas as a child all over again, only this time it wasn’t toys I was looking forward too, this was so much better.

The shoes were heels, only they weren’t very high. That was the very first thing I noticed. The green was a shade or two darker than the dress, and the shoes has a bow at each of the toes.

When I went to set the box down I could hear something sliding around at the bottom of the box.

I looked under the shoes to see a small bag with green and silver drop earrings. There was some leafy design at the top of the drop, but the rest of the green matched the color of the shoes perfectly. The other item in the bag however caught my attention.

It was a small ring, and diamonds went all the way around it.

What the hell was this?

Was there something Lucian wanted to say to me?

I slid the ring onto my middle finger and it fit perfectly. That was where it was going to stay. I would wear the bracelet I got from Allison with it. That would make up my entire outfit for tonight.

I was so distracted by all the things in front of me that I didn’t notice Violet getting ready.

The bright lilac purple dress, and it flowed perfectly to her feet. The bust was practically heart shaped. It was strapless so I hope Violet was prepared for that.

She turned to look at me and I grinned at her. She was wearing a new necklace, it was a small silver infinity. It was cute.

Her hand instinctively went to her neck and she smiled shyly “Juliet got it for me.”

“I like it” I said trying not to grin at her.

“She also got me this” she went to the bed to retrieve something silver and too big to be any real wearable jewelry.

When she handed it to me I couldn’t help but let out a small gasp. It’s like a small hair comb to hold up her hair. It has a little bit of weight to it, but it was beautiful, the center of it had a silver butterfly, the rest of it looked like randomly shaped leaf under it, but all of it was made up of clear diamonds.

“Can you help me put it in my hair?” Violet asked me.

I nodded, of course I would help her.

She never asked me to do anything to her hair before, not like this at least.

She maneuvered her hair up into this crazy bun, at first it looked a little sloppy. I realized that it was a little sloppy because that was just the style, and it was certainly something.

I made sure to carefully place the comb just above the bun.

“Are you excited?” I asked her.

I heard her giggle and I knew the answer.

“Aren’t you?” she asked me.

I nodded slowly.

Of course I was, but it was more than just dancing with Lucian.

It was knowing that for the first time, I was with someone who wasn’t family. Someone wanted to be with me too.

Saying that I was excited is putting it mildly. I was ecstatic. I was thrilled. I was completely stoked.

“Is Juliet coming to get you?” I asked.

“No” Violet said as she pulled on her dark purple heels “I’m meeting her there.”

“You know to be careful right?” I asked.

She nodded “If we are going to face a war I need to be conscious of everything around me.”

“I love you” I said low.

“I love you too” she said with a grin.

I knew I had to take a shower before I did anything else.

“You know to be careful too right?” she asked me.

“Lucian will keep me safe” I said “And I know.”

She nodded.

“Have fun” I said “And Violet, you look beautiful.”

I could see the blush on her face “Thank you.”

I stopped in the doorway of the bathroom to sort of see her off.

“I know you will look amazing” she said as she opened the door “Tell Lucian to keep it in his pants.”

“Will do” I nodded fiercely.

Though that was absolutely the last thing I would say to him tonight.

When she shut the door I decided it was time for me to get in the shower.

My hands were sweaty. I couldn’t stop myself from feeling so damn nervous.

I sat on my bed, I was completely dressed and I was waiting for Lucian to get here.

I found a small thread raised from the carpet to distract my nerves, but as soon as I heard the light knock on my door it all came rushing back.

I was quick to my feet and I smoothed out my dress before I opened the door.

He stared at me, a little too strangely for me to find it positive.

“You’re beautiful” he said still not averting his gaze.

“You look pretty good too” I said a little awkwardly.

He really did though.

He wore a long sleeved button down white shirt with the sleeved rolled up almost to his elbows, with black dress pants.

When he told me that he was going to wear black, I was most certainly not expecting this little.

His shoes were definitely nice, as far as dress shoes for men go. They were shiny.

The usual ring on his left ring finger was there, plain silver. The necklace was new.

I reached for it and he looked surprised.

“What?” I asked him oddly.

He was quick to shake his head and let me grab it.

It was a dark silver, kind of gray charm on his necklace.

“What is it?” I asked.

“It’s a Celtic cross” he stated as if it was common knowledge “And forever faithful.”

I ran my thumb over the raised metal before I released it.

“I also have a necklace for you” he said before digging into his pockets.

Hadn’t he already given me enough?

“I know it doesn’t match, but I thought it was something you had to have.”

I looked at it and I didn’t know what to say.

It was small circular container with a bunch on holes so that I could see its glowing contents.

I reached for it and was surprised that the metal was cool instead of hot. The orange glow from the small container was amazing.

“What is it supposed to be?” I asked him.

“I don’t know” he said low “Some people believe it is part of a fallen star, others just think its magic.”

I was quick to place the necklace around my neck.

He smirked “I’m glad you like it.”

“Like it?” I asked “I love it.”

His smirk went into a wide smile.

“So are you planning to take me out soon?” I asked “Or were you planning to talk at my door forever?”

He held out his hand “Of course I was just waiting for you to let me know you were still serious.”

I took his hand and let him lead me away.

I made sure to shut the door behind me.

My hand lingered at the small container around my neck. It was still cold even after I held it in my hand. Shouldn’t it have warmed up a bit?

Was it really magic?

I was pulled out of my thoughts by the loud music coming out of the gym.

My nerves were getting to me, but the hand holding mine made it considerably easier. It was like I could feel brave with him here.

The double doors weren’t as scary as they were last time, Lucian didn’t even hesitated to open them.

The dancers were colorful, but the main color I saw was red.

Lucian led me through the crowd and I could see people stopping to watch us.

Was it really that surprising?

Of course it was the human hater hand in hand with a human.

He stopped once we reached Ariel and Abel.

Wow, now that is a dress.

She wore all yellow, it was so bright even in this darkened room. Her jewelry was bright blue like her eyes. She looked stunning.

Abel was all dressed up too.

Abel wore dark gray dress pants and a black button down shirt. That was what I was expecting Lucian to wear.

Abel also wore a ring that I had never seen on him before, but it was too dark to make out in here.

“You guys look great” I said trying my hardest not to destroy my face by smiling so wide.

“You look pretty good yourself” Abel said.

“You look hot” Ariel said.

“Thank you” I said feeling my cheeks redden.

They both looked at Lucian and I was half expecting some cheesy movie cat fight or something, but that wasn’t the case.

“You look nice” he said to Ariel.

I could see the surprise on her face.

“Thank you” she said strangely “You too.”

Abel stood there trying not to really even look at him.

“I see you are wearing his ring” Lucian said to Abel “I’ve always thought it suited you better.”

Abel only nodded.

Was it Blaze’s ring?

“I got first dance” Abel said as he dragged me away from the two of them.

I wasn’t very far and I could see the awkwardness between the two of them.

Abel stopped and placed a hand on my hip.

I’ve never really dance. Thanksgiving doesn’t count.

I placed my hand on his shoulder and I took in a breath before I grabbed his other hand with my free one.

“I doubt I’m wrong” Abel said “But you at least look like you know what you’re doing.”

I smiled “You’re not wrong.”

I had to look down to follow his feet, and I could hear him laughing at me.

“Hey” I growled.

“You aren’t supposed to stare at the floor the whole time” he said “Dancing is far more intimate that you think.”

I refused to meet his eyes.

“Maybe you’ll do better with Lucian.”

“Are the two of you still not talking?” I asked.

“You heard him” he said “He is talking, but I’m not.”

I realized that I was following him without having to look at the floor, and I wasn’t being clumsy.

He grinned at me and I couldn’t help but grin back.

“Alright” he said before releasing me “We need to go save them.”

I looked back at Ariel and Lucian and they still looked awkward, this time with cups.

“Alright” I said before following him back.

Lucian was quick to hold the cup out to me and I made sure to examine the contents before I downed it.

It was some time of punch.

“Thank you” I said once the cup was empty.

I took his hand and I waved at Ariel and Abel as I pulled him away.

Once we stopped Lucian pulled an odd shaped container from his pocket and took a drink of it.

“What the hell is that?” I pointed.

“Something you aren’t old enough to drink yet.”

I glared, which meant it was alcohol.

“I might not live long enough” I said “No reason I can’t try it.”

He handed it to me and I was surprised he didn’t put up more of a fight.

“Only take a small drink” he said “This is a lot stronger than the stuff humans make.”

I tried to small it first, but it didn’t really have a smell. That made it weird.

I pressed the ward metal to my lips before taking a drink, but it was good. I took a bigger drink and Lucian snatched it from me.

“What did I just tell you?” he hissed.

It was like drinking fruit juice, it was cold and it was awesome.

“I told you it was stronger than human alcohol” he said “What the hell were you trying to pull?”

“It tastes good” I said.

He made a face “What did it smell like?”

I shook my head “It didn’t smell like anything.”

I could see his irritation without him having to say anything.

“Do you know why this is stronger?” he asked.

“I don’t even know what that is” I stated.

“It uses our senses and it makes it taste more appealing” he said “It’s not easy to come by either.”

“I’m sorry for drinking so much” I said even though I didn’t mean it.

I was starting to feel light headed.

His arm wrapped around me and he smiled down at me.

“Feeling it already?”

I nodded but it felt strange.

“This is why I can’t take you places” he said “You ignore me and you do stupid things.”

“You don’t listen to me either” I pointed at his chest.

“This” he showed me the container “Was made by fairies, and they have a cruel sense of humor.”

“Okay?” I asked feeling him pull me closer.

“It’s also very easy to get drunk from a single sip.”

Is this why I was feeling so weird?

“You need to know that I’m just trying to look out for you” he said.

The music seemed to get louder around me and for once I just wanted to dance.

I took the container and forced it into his pocket “Shut up” I told him.

He looked confused but once I moved a little away and placed my right hand on his shoulder I think he got the hint.

He didn’t even let me walk. He lifted me from the ground with the arm he was supposed to have at my waist, and his other hand held my left one.

I couldn’t help but laugh.

He walked in a slow circle and made me feel like I was really dancing with him.

It has been a while since I’ve felt this good. The room just seemed to be getting hotter and hotter from all the dancing and the heavy breathing. Though it is still kind of funny when I think about it, because Vampires don’t need to breathe, but they just do it out of habit.

It made them more human to be around. Well, except for the fangs, but they can retract those.

“Having fun?” Lucian asked me.

“Of course I am” I said as I wrapped my arms around his neck.

His other arm went around me.

“Are you having fun?” I asked him.

He only chuckled in response.

“Hey” I said before blowing air in his face.

“What are you five?” he asked trying not to laugh “That is just rude.”

“You pretty much just told me you aren’t having fun” I stated.

“Fun isn’t something I have very often” he said “But I am enjoying myself.”

I couldn’t help but grin.

“Wow” I said “You can actually enjoy something?”

He rolled his eyes at me.

“Woah now mister” I said accusingly “Now that is rude.”

He lost all humor in his face “Are you sure you want to stay here?”

I made a face “We’re dancing aren’t we?”

“Sort of” he said before glancing down.

“Do you want to leave?” I asked.

“Yes” he said simply.

I looked around and I saw far too many sets of eyes on us.

“Okay” I said “Where are you going to take me?”

“My room” he leaned in to say it onto my ear and I felt myself start to shake.

“Okay” I said feeling like my mouth was dry.

We weren’t even here for very long and he wanted to leave?

He set me down and led me outside.

It was completely dark now. How long had we really been in there?

“What time is it?” I asked him.

He pulled out a phone to check the time “It’s after midnight.”

Well damn, we were in there for hours.

It didn’t feel like that though, what happened to the time?

His hand took mine and I couldn’t help but smile again.

He was really making me feel special tonight. It was almost too good to be true.

He was quick to stop once we were a little away from the gym.

“Are you alright?” I asked.

He turned to pick me up again, this time all the heat was coming from him.

“I wanted to do this for the last three hours.”

I was going to ask him what he wanted to do, but when he kissed me I lost any question I even thought about.

My arms wrapped around him and I kissed him back just as hard. His hand came up to pull my chin down just a little so that I would separate my lips.

His mouth had the same sweet taste as the container in his pocket, and I just wanted to taste him more.

He pulled his head back and he stared up at the sky.

“You’re not giving me a fighting chance” said low before dropping his gaze back down to meet mine.

“How so?” I asked.

“You know what I want to do to you” he said.

I met his gaze and I refused to look away “And what is that?”

Of course I knew, he made it very clear. The other day we almost did, but Lucian was whisked away to take care of the Brock situation.

“You really want me to say it don’t you?” he asked.

“That you want to fuck me?” I asked in probably the hottest voice I have ever heard myself use.

“Yes” he said tightening his grip around me.

“I want you to say it” I said.

Where the hell did this bravery come from? That fairy concoction?

“I do” he said.

Was he trying to tease me now?

“I don’t think I know what you mean” I said playfully.

“I want to do far more that” he said “I want to tease you, I want to leave marks all over you.”

I couldn’t stare at him anymore, I could feel every word in a place that I didn’t think was possible.

“Won’t you let me?” he asked low.

If he didn’t do something immediately I was going to explode, but I don’t know.

Violet made me promise not to be too fast.

Hadn’t she already been with Juliet though? Hell if I knew, she didn’t tell me that kind of thing. But it wasn’t like Juliet could impregnate her, but Lucian couldn’t do that to me either.

Damn it I was thinking too hard about this.

“Okay” I said low.

I could see something change in his expression, as if he wished I would have said no.

“Lucian?” I asked low.

He set me down and he leaned down to kiss me softly.

The anticipation was probably going to kill me.

He took my hand and he started to lead me towards the dorms.

My hand instinctively went to the necklace and I wanted to ask him. I know he said that he got the drink from fairies, but did that mean that magic was real?

“Lucian?” I asked low.

“What is it?”

“Magic, is it real?”

He didn’t answer me.

“Lucian?” I asked again.

I looked up at him but he was staring off into the distance, something was there.

I moved closer to him and his grip tightened around me.

Loud laughter nearly made me jump out of my own skin.

“What the fuck are you doing here?” Lucian hissed.

The man stepped out of the darkness and I could barely make out his face, but the glowing yellow eyes were hard to mistake.

He was a Werewolf.

“I’m just here for the party” he spoke but I saw him face upwards “Smells like things were getting serious.”

The glowing eyes were on me, and I didn’t know why. What the hell was he talking about, was I the next target?

They didn’t get either one of us because of Brock, so did that mean that they were going to try again this soon?

“I don’t want to see your face right now” Lucian said simply.

“You don’t have a choice” the man spoke simply “You know I’m off limits to you.”

Off limits?

I moved forward in hopes of getting a better look at his face.

“Who are you?” I demanded.

It wasn’t that dark, because I could see that wide evil smile on his face.

“This is a terrible way to start off a relationship Lucian” he said “You can’t build a foundation based on lies.”

This guy was getting on my nerves “You need to leave.”

He snorted “I don’t have to listen to you, bitch.”

“Funny” I said looking at Lucian “Last time I checked bitches were dogs, kind of like you.”

He growled and Lucian was quick to move in front of me.

“Send him on his way” I said to Lucian “You can meet me later.”

He looked at me confused, but he needed to do what I said.

We talked about this, he was on my side. He said he would help me, and this guy here clearly wasn’t on our side.

When Lucian nodded I felt myself relax a little, at least it would be harder for that man to get back here.

Lucian stepped forward and the man stepped back.

“You take your orders from humans now?” he hissed “Wait until he hears about this.”

Lucian froze and I knew that something was wrong.

Wait until who found out?

“Lucian” I said “Get him out of here.”

Lucian hesitated before his hand made contact with the Werewolf’s shoulder.

“Jade” the man said “Brock sends his regards.”

“What?” I demanded.

The two of them were gone before I could even really ask.

I heard my name and I was quick to turn back to where the party was.

“Abel?” I asked oddly.

“Come quickly” he gasped “It’s Violet.”
