27. Prototype Ch. 25 - You Belong With Me (Pt. 2)

“Proof?” I asked “What proof could you possibly have?”

He got to his feet and stood in front of me “The best kind.”

I looked around only to realize we weren’t at the school anymore.

“Where are we?” I asked.

He turned a light on and instantly I knew the room I was in, it was the bedroom in his house.

I was in Lucians’ house.

He opened the door and walked out.

I followed him down the hall.

I could see the portrait of Allison from where I stood, he didn’t know how he felt about her, and all he can say to me is that he doesn’t hate me? Lucky me.

He walked into the room with all the boxes.

“What are you looking for?” I asked.

He was clearly digging through the boxes.

“A book” he stated.

It took my brain a minute to recall the book that Allison told me about, the one she said was in Lucians’ house.

“The one with our original family name on it?” I asked.

He turned to look at me “How would you know about it?”

I hesitated before speaking “Allison.”

“Of course” he shook his head before digging through another box.

“What is my original family name?” I asked.

“Didn’t Allison tell you?” he asked angrily.

I sighed before sitting down next to the door, the rest of the room was too crowded.

He pulled a book out of one of the boxes before tossing it to the side.

“Is that it?” I asked crawling for it.

“No” he said still digging.

I picked it up only to see a hard black cover, it looked worn.

He leaned down to pull it from my hands.

“What the hell?” I hissed.

“That book is none of your business” he said before returning to the box.

It took a few more minutes before he stopped.

“Did you find it?” I asked.

“Take a guess” he said “What do you think your original family name was?”

“Smith?” I asked.

That was the most common last name I could think of.

He pulled a large book out of the box and held it so I couldn’t see the spine or the front of it.

“What is it then?” I asked getting to my feet.

“Are you done being mad at me?” he asked.

“No” I frowned reaching for the book only to have him move it.

“Are you kidding me?” I hissed “Give me the damn book!”

“What are you going to give me?” he asked.

“How about I don’t punch you in the groin?”

“If you wanted to touch it Jade, all you had to do was ask.”

I felt my skin heat up “Not what I meant idiot.”

He shrugged “Sounded like it to me.”

He was acting childish, and it was getting on my nerves.

I reached for the book again only to have him hold it over his head.

Damn my short stature.

“Give me the book Lucian” I said.

“Kiss me first” he said looking at me seriously.

I made a face “No.”

“Then no book.”

I glared at him.

“You’re acting like a child” I stated.

“Fine by me” he shrugged.

“Give it” I whined trying to reach it.

“God I love how short you are” he smirked.

“So my height is something you can love?” I asked accusingly.

He sighed before shaking his head “Whatever Jade.”

He pushed past me and walked out of the room taking the book with him.

“Lucian!” I called.

I followed him down the hallway back to his room.

He was on the opposite side of the room with his back to me.

I saw blood on the back of his shirt, was he still bleeding?

I walked up behind him and forced his shirt up.

“You move quickly don’t you?” he asked.

“You’re still bleeding” I stated.

“So what of it?” he asked.

I pulled it up so he had to take it off. The book wasn’t in his hands anymore.

“Where did you put it?” I demanded.

“Can’t say I recall.”

He was acting like a total dick over a kiss.

“Fine” I growled “You want a kiss so damn bad.”

I pulled him down to me forcing his lips to mine, but he wouldn’t kiss me back.

“It’s on the shelf” he pulled away from me.

I turned around and saw a small black shelf next to the bed.

I scanned the books until I saw one that looked old.

I hesitated before pulling it out.

“What was her name?” I asked him.

When he didn’t answer I turned around to see him under the covers.

His back was to me.

“Lucian?” I asked “I thought sleep was just to pass the time.”

“I’m passing some time” he stated “Besides, you’ll hate me by the time you’re done with that.”

I looked down at the old book only to feel the ground beneath me spin.

‘Cross,’ that was our original last name.

I don’t understand.

“Just read it” he growled.

I sighed.

“I don’t have time for fifty questions” he said.

I set the book on the bed and kicked my shoes off before sitting on the bed.

Did I really want to know the family curse? Just when things started to get really good I had to open my mouth.

“What was her name?” I asked again.

He sat up to glare at me, and then his gaze went to the book in front of me.

“You wanted proof” he said “Why aren’t you reading it?”

I stared at him, of course I wanted to know the truth, but he was making this so much harder than it had to be.

“Cross” I said “It’s our name.”

“I was just Lucian” he said.

“Why take our name?”

“I’m not sure; I didn’t start calling myself that until Logan fell.”

“Was there a girl for Logan too?” I asked.

He shook his head “He lost his faith, and he took his own wings.”

I sat there looking at him.

“Her name was Gwendolyn” he laid back to stare at the ceiling.

“And the curse?” I asked “How do we break it?”

He laughed “It can’t be broken.”

“Yes it can” I said “There has to be a way.”

“There’s not just a curse Jade, there are two of them” he stated “One placed on the family of Gwendolyn, and the other on me.”

“One curse would be a breeze” he stated “But two, there is only one chance to break it, and we’re long past it.”

“You figured out a way to break it?” I asked.

“Sort of.”

“Sort of?” I hissed.

“It’s a lot harder being a Fallen than you think” he stated “Its not all rainbows and butterflies for eternity.”

I glared at him “I don’t think that.”

“Sure you don’t.”

“Just tell me” I frowned.

“Before I fell I could feel everything.”

“You might want to be a little more specific” I stated.

He linked his hand through mine “You feel that don’t you?”

I was horrified “You can’t feel this?”

I tightened my hand so he couldn’t pull his away.

“Part of my curse is my inability to feel someone else’s touch, I was to receive no comfort for my act of blasphemy” he stared at our hands “But when I first met you I realized I could feel your skin, you had me obsessing over you.”

I stayed quiet so I could listen.

“You remember the night before they killed me?”

I nodded, it was impossible to forget.

“I tried pushing you away; I tried my hardest to make you hate me.”

I pulled the blanket over me so I could lay next to him “Good luck getting rid of me now.”

“We had a fight today, you were going to leave.”

“I would have gotten over it” I stated “I just needed time, or at least an explanation. I got one.”

He took his hand out of mine to wrap his arm around me, to pull me closer.

“Lucian?” I asked feeling nervous.

“With Allison I felt like I needed to love her, she didn’t love me either, we were just hurting each other.”

“What about Gwendolyn?”

“I was overwhelmed” he confessed “I loved her so much I didn’t know what to do.”

I was jealous of a dead woman.

“I never thought I’d feel that way again.”

“Is there a, but?” I asked.

He turned to face me “But I did, long before they put me to death.”

I felt my heart pounding.

“I couldn’t leave you alone; even though I threatened you and knew I had to keep my distance” he sighed “I loved you long before you said it to me.”

I didn’t know what to say, I just laid on his chest and let him say what he needed to say.

“I know I should have said it earlier, but I always hoped that it would be under better circumstances.”

“And now is better?” I asked.

“You think I hate you along with every other human in existence, when in reality you are the only human alive I would die for.”

I sat up and stared down at him, I had to see his face.

“I do love you” he said “I don’t know how or why, but as long as I’m alive, I won’t let anyone hurt you.”

I couldn’t help but smile “So spring break you were taking a day off?”

He sighed before pulling me back down to lay next to him.

“If you loved me so much why didn’t you take advantage of me before they killed you?” I had to think about that “How does that even work? We can’t call it that.”

“I don’t know” he stated “I figured you’d hate me if you figured out that I didn’t die after.”

“You’re an idiot” I shook my head.

“Is that why when I made a dick pun you got red?”

I felt the blood rise to my face again.

“I think your face might actually be redder than your hair.”

I pulled the blanket up to cover my face.

“Are you embarrassed?” he asked.

“No” I hissed pulling the blanket down, the red was gone.

“Or was it the word I used?” he asked.

“It wasn’t that either” I hissed.

“Dick” he said low.

The red returned.

“There we go” he smirked.

“You’re just making me mad” I pouted “It’s not the word.”

“Sure it’s not” he said.

He was practically laughing at me.

I couldn’t let him be an ass and get away with it. I moved my leg and I moved so that I was straddling him.

His face had no trace of humor.

I looked down “Oh no more Mr. Funny guy huh?”

His gaze up at me made me a little nervous.

He sat up keeping me where I was, only now I was pressed against his chest.

“I’m not sure if you know how to be sexy on purpose, but if you are its working.”

I had to look away, I wasn’t trying to be. I could already feel the blush on my face.

“You’re not ready” he stated “You might want to move before I lose my ability to contain myself.”

I was frozen in place; I didn’t know what to do. I knew what I wanted, but I don’t think it was the right time.

His gaze on me made my skin boil.

“I don’t know if I’m ready” I confessed.

Even though I knew it was a bad idea, I leaned forward to kiss him.

His reaction caught me off guard. He pulled me tighter against him actually returning my kiss this time.

I pulled back to get a breath, his lips continued down my neck but stopped once they reached my shirt.

“I know you’re not ready” he stared down.

Even he was struggling to regulate his breathing.

“I’m sorry.”

He shook his head “It’s alright, I knew you weren’t I should have stopped you.”

“Then you would have made me mad” I stated.

“Yeah” he nodded “You would be.”

“See” I said “Not mad now.”

“I’m going to kiss you again” he said “If you think it’s a bad idea stop me.”

I nodded dropping my gaze to his lips, I wanted to be ready.

He pulled me closer by my hips and I felt his desire through his shorts.

“Lucian” I said low.

“Jade” he said back.

His lips met mine again and I felt powerless. My body wanted what my body wanted, even though my brain wanted it too.

He picked himself up and next thing I know I’m on my back and he is hovering over me.

“Remember this?” he asked.

How could I possibly forget?

I only nodded as I watched him.

He placed another short kiss on my lips before stopping.

He laid on his back next to me.

I looked over at him “Are you okay?”

He glared at me.

I felt some sort of satisfaction from his action.

“I’m powerless against you” he said “If I start I don’t think I’ll be able to stop.”

Maybe I wanted him to start, to not think about what I needed, just think about how it would feel.

Because he can actually feel me.

“How much power do you think I have?” I asked.

“Too much” his gaze went back to the ceiling.

“Dorky question” I said.

He looked over at me.

“Does it hurt?” I indicated a certain part of his anatomy that was absent in mine.

He laughed “And you called me a pervert.”

I pouted “Mean.”

“It depends on what you mean by hurt” he stated.

“What other word would you use to describe it?”

“Stop asking about me” he practically pleaded “What about you?”

“Don’t look at me” I said “I don’t have a penis.”

He laughed “I’m aware of that.”

He looked over at me “So?”

“I don’t know” I shrugged “It’s just always been there I don’t pay much attention to it.”

He laughed again “Now you know how I feel.”

“Sorry” I murmured.

He shrugged “It happens.”

I found myself just staring at him.

“I told you I wouldn’t lie to you anymore.”

“When did you lie?” I asked confused.

“A few minutes ago” he admitted.

I smiled deviously “Dirty bird.”

He shrugged “It’s not as neglected as you think.”

It was my turn to laugh “I didn’t think so; I figured you were just keeping your ‘you’ time to yourself.”

“You caught me.”

“How does it feel to finally not be an ass to me?” I asked.

“It feels good Jade, it feels good.”

I laughed again “See, I knew you had a sense of humor.”

“Not much of one” he shrugged “I’m using all my material now, so you get a heads up”

“More than one” I said trying not to laugh.

“That one doesn’t count” he stated getting to his feet.

“What are you doing?” I asked.

“I’ll be back” he said “Try to get some sleep.”

I sat up to look at him “Time for some ‘you’ time?”

He tried to seem like he was having fun, but I could see it all over his face. He wanted me, and I was too awkward to be a real girlfriend.

“Yeah” he said low “I’ll see you in a little while.”

He walked out and I felt like an ass.

I was going to be a horrible girlfriend, I already knew it. He’d want to do something kinky, and I’d be there laughing like a nut case or not being able to figure out what to do with myself.

I sat there; I would wait for him to come back, but in the meantime.

I grabbed the book from where it was forgotten, the bed tried to hide it under the blankets.

I opened the book and it said her name on the very first page.

‘This book belongs to Gwendolyn Susan Cross.’
