20. Prototype Ch. 19 - Hey Juliet (Pt. 2)

“Hello” he said.

“Who are you?” I asked.

“I was expecting more towards, what actually.”

“Who are you?” I asked again.

A large grin formed on his face, and I could see how sharp his teeth really were.

“I am simply a part of your imagination.”

“Then what are you?” I asked.

“I am whatever it is that you wish for me to be.”

I looked down; the only person I could think about wanting to see was Lucian.

“If that is what you want” he said “But I can’t guarantee what happens next.”

My gaze went up and I was staring right at Lucian.

Just the sight of him made my heart pound.

“Hey” he said.

“How are you?” I asked.

He shrugged “I’m dead, I’m just great.”

I looked back at the floor “I miss you.”

“Don’t” he said “Forget me.”

“How could you even ask that?” I hissed.

The same Demon smile I saw a few minutes ago formed again “Because I’m not Lucian dear.”

I glared at him.

“Don’t look at me like that” he shrugged “You know it was funny.”

“How is my pain funny?”

“You are the only one who doesn’t get it.”

I didn’t say anything, I just started to walk.

“Don’t walk away from me” he said.

I just ignored him; I was irritated that he would even think about doing that to me.

I walked through the field but stopped once I saw a large wooden cross.

“This isn’t funny” I hissed.

There was an echo, and I felt even more alone.

“Hello?” I called.

I heard myself respond a few times.

My gaze went back to the cross and Lucian was on it.

I ran to the cross, but I wasn’t getting any closer to it.

A loud scream erupted from him, and I ran as fast as I could.

“Lucian!” I screamed.

I don’t think he could hear me, his screams were too loud.

“Lucian!” I yelled again.

And then I fell.

I stared wide eyed up at Violet.

“Oh my god” she sighed “Are you alright?”

“I had another bad dream” I said low.

“What happened?” she asked me wiping my cheeks.

I hadn’t realized I was crying.

“He was on the cross again” I mumbled “And no matter how much I ran I never moved.”

She frowned “I’m sorry.”

I sat up and rubbed every trace of tears from my face.

She just sat there and didn’t say a word.

I wanted to see him again, more than anything else.

“Are you going to wake up for classes?” she asked after a few minutes of silence.

I shook my head; I don’t think I could handle it.

She nodded “Alright, well I am, do you think you’ll be alright here by yourself?”

I nodded; I didn’t want her to worry about me.

She smiled lightly “If you really need me text me.”

I nodded again “I will.”

She got up to put her shoes on, and I watched her walk out the door before saying goodbye one more time.

I sat here staring at the door for I don’t even know how long.

My gaze shifted around the room until it landed on the large pieces of paper under Violet’s bed.

I knew instantly what they were of.

I got up quickly to pull them both out, and I felt this brutal pain in my chest at the picture I drew of Lucian.

He looked so self conscience in this picture; I couldn’t help but think about that weekend again.

He had saved me from the Vampires again, because like an idiot I didn’t clean up the cuts on my arms like I should have.

The light knock on the door made my heart speed up.

I rushed to the door hoping that Lucian somehow heard my pleas and managed to get out of dying, but I was disappointed once I opened the door.

“Hey” Abel said low.

Okay I wasn’t disappointed, I just felt sad that it wasn’t who I wanted it to be.

“How are you doing?”

I was about to respond but I saw Blaze right behind him.

“Jade?” he asked.

I shook my head “I’m fine.”

Blaze forced his way inside “You aren’t okay; don’t try to lie to us.”

I just stared to the side.

“What do we have here?” he asked in a new tone.

I turned quickly to see him looking at a large piece of paper.

I snatched it from him “What do you want?” I hissed.

His gaze went to the one of Lucian on my bed “We have something to tell you.”

“Tell me what?” I asked putting both of the drawings under my bed.

“Well it’s not good” Abel said low.

“Not good how?” I demanded.

“The Mayor had one of his guys come down here to take Lucian’s ashes to the President” Blaze stated “They didn’t even take the time to put the dirt back where they got it from.”

I frowned; I didn’t get the chance to tell him about the scar on my neck.

“Why tell me?” I asked.

“So you wouldn’t get your hopes up if you go to his grave” Blaze said.

I glared at him “Don’t forget who saved you.”

“I haven’t” he hissed.

My gaze went to Abel; at least one of us was happy.

“I’m really sorry Jade” he said.

I shook my head “I’m fine.”

“How many times are you going to say that?” Blaze asked “Until you believe it yourself?”

I didn’t know what to say.

“You clearly aren’t fine, so stop lying to everybody” he said harshly “I understand that you want to be strong, but at this rate you’ll break and no one will be able to help put you back together.”

“Be nice Blaze” Abel said “I couldn’t imagine if anything happened to you, think about how she feels.”

“She doesn’t know what to feel, the only thing she can is regret” Blaze stated angrily “You and I have been together for years, she barely met Lucian this year.”

I glared at him “So what?” I demanded “How long did it take you to realize you were in love with Abel?”

He looked at Abel “It took a long time.”

Abel frowned “Yeah, it really did take a long time.”

“Give me a rough estimate” I stated.

“Longer than you’ve been alive” Blaze state “Both you and your sisters years combined.”

I stared at Abel “What?” I asked “Are you serious?”

Abel nodded “He knew that I liked him, but he didn’t really care.”

“That’s not true” Blaze said “I didn’t know what to do.”

Abel shrugged “The point being, she fell in love with Lucian, making his death more painful than you can fathom.”

Blaze just stared at him; I wanted to know what he was thinking.

“She doesn’t even know him” he whispered “He’s a liar; he only does things that help him.”

I shook my head “He saved me, I don’t even know how many times.”

“How many times has he made you cry?” Blaze asked.

“That doesn’t matter” I stated.

“Why?” he asked “Because he is dead? Now you can’t hold any of the bad things he’s done against him?”

I shook my head “I can do whatever I want to.”

“Then bring him back” he said “You think you can do anything, you think your love is enough? Bring him back.”

I couldn’t say anything; again I was at a loss for words.

“No Abel” he hissed “You have no idea.”

Abel was about to open his mouth but Blaze just stormed out.

“What’s his deal?” I asked.

Abel shook his head “He’s just a little mad.”

“Just a little?” I asked “What’s really going on?”

He frowned “I shouldn’t burden you with my problems.”

I glared at him “Are you kidding?” I asked “We’re friends dork; I’m here when you need me.”

He smiled lightly “I know, but some things should be held onto, don’t you think?”

I shook my head “No, you should tell me.”

He made a face; he looked like he wasn’t quite sure what he should do.

“Come on” I encouraged “We can do that girls thing again.”

He smiled lightly “I suppose.”

“Violet at Juliet are both going to be here later if you’d like to stay.”

“Why is Juliet coming over?” he asked.

I had to dig the project paper out of my back pack to show it to him.

He read it over before looking at me “You could have asked me and Blaze.”

I shook my head “Promise you won’t say anything?” I asked.

He nodded “What’s up?”

“I’m trying to get Violet and Juliet together.”

He made a face before grinning “Really?”

“Violet has had the biggest crush on Juliet for a while now, and Juliet just admitted to me that she liked Violet.”

“Does Violet know?”

I shook my head “Hell no, I’m trying to get them together the old fashioned way.”

“The old fashioned way would be to tell her.”

“Nope” I shrugged “I’m going to get them to feel that tension until they both can’t take it anymore.”

Abel smiled again “That’s not a terrible idea either.”

“See” I said “I know what I’m doing most of the time.”

“Sure” he chuckled “What about the rest of the time?”

I shrugged “I improvise.”

I stared at the camera on the desk before looking back at Violet and Juliet.

They both sat on Violet’s bed, while Abel sat next to me on mine.

“So?” Juliet asked “Do you want to take a few pictures tonight?”

I nodded “But I’m not sure what I want you guys to do” I mumbled.

“I do” Abel stated.

They looked at him confused.

“How willing are you guys?” Able asked.

Both Violet and Juliet exchanged looks before nodding.

“Do you mind if I help?” he asked me.

I shrugged, even though I wanted to do this to get my mind off everything, off him.

“Ok, Jade get the camera” he told me “And You two, clothes off.”

We all looked confused now; I could see that the two of them were nervous.

“Not naked” he stated “Just to the bare essentials.”

I knew Violet wasn’t shy, her removing her shirt and pants was proof enough. Juliet on the other hand was shy; I could see her hands shaking at the hem of her shirt.

Part of me already knew what Violet was going to do, so I turned my camera on and aimed it at them.

Violet moved closer to her and slowly pulled Juliet’s shirt over her head.

I snapped a picture.

It wasn’t quite the one I was looking for but in the end, I got my picture.

I found myself sitting in front of Lucian’s grave again.

“I wish you could have been there” I whispered low “You should have seen them, Violet and Juliet finally got together.”

Of course I knew he wasn’t there, they took his ashes away. But this was the closest to him I could possibly get.

“So you’re here too?”

I turned to see Logan.

“Logan?” I asked “What are you doing here?”

He looked kind of sad “You mean because he isn’t here?”

I nodded slowly.

“It’s the closest I can get” he sat on the grass next to me.

I don’t think I could even imagine how he is feeling.

“I’m so sorry.”

“Were you the one that wrote these?” he asked examining the head stone.

I nodded “He deserved to have someone miss him.”

Logan just stared forward “I never thought he would actually die.”

I looked over at him “I never thought he could.”

“He would kill me if I told you this” he smiled to himself “But he used to talk about you all the time.”

I wasn’t sure why, but my heart sped up “He did?”

He nodded “I still don’t understand why he couldn’t just try to stay alive; he said that he wanted to watch over you, but the second he decided that he was going to die he broke that promise to himself.”

“What did he say?”

He looked at me “You get in far too much trouble; he needs to keep a constant eye on you just to be sure that you’re safe.”

“What did he mean by a constant eye?” I asked.

“Have you ever woken up in the middle of the night, and felt like someone was watching you?”

I made a face “He was in my room?”

He shrugged “He doesn’t tell me that kind of stuff.”

I let out a breath of relief “You really had me going there for a minute.”

“Thank you” he mumbled.

I looked at him again “What for?”

“His headstone” he shrugged “If he knew he’d probably get mad to hide how happy he was.”

“Does he do that a lot?”

Logan made a face “Are you kidding? He does it all the time it drives me crazy” then his smile faded “Now I think I kind of miss it.”

What could I possibly say to him?

“You do know I loved your brother right?”

“You wouldn’t be the first” he shrugged.

“I mean it” I said harshly “Why doesn’t anyone believe me?”

“Because of your family” he stated “That is the only reason, I’m sure he’s told you the story.”

“Everybody always leaves him” I mumbled “But I would never do such a thing.”

“As far as you know” he stated “He can’t have kids, you know that don’t you?”

I nodded “I don’t want kids.”

“You will some day.”

“I did” I stated “But If I could have him back I wouldn’t care, we could adopt if we really wanted kids, I would do anything just to have him back.”

I could feel the tears building up again.

“I’m sorry Jade” he said low “But it’s too late for that.”

“I told him I loved him” I said “I told him more than once.”

“He never said it to you” Logan stated.

I nodded “He said he didn’t feel that way.”

Logan didn’t say anything.

“Maybe all I am is a charity case” I mumbled “I’ve tried to kill myself who knows how many times, maybe he didn’t want to deal with that.”

Logan stared at me “That wouldn’t have stopped him.”

“It’s because I have to die” I stated “I won’t live forever, I’m human.”

Logan just sat there.

“Why couldn’t he have just lied to me?” I asked “Why couldn’t he tell me he loved me?”

“Lucian isn’t that kind of guy, he’s not good at lying” he sighed “He’s always been honest, that’s what makes him such an asshole.”

I frowned, I knew he could be an ass, but how honest was he really?

“What was he?” I asked “He wouldn’t tell me.”

“Neither can I.”
“Why not?” I demanded.

“I just can’t” he shrugged “It’s not for me to tell.”

It was my turn to sigh.

“I just want to know why those bastards took his ashes.”

I nodded in agreement, but I couldn’t help but notice that he looked like he was trying to avoid something.

“Have you ever been in love?” I asked him.

He looked at me like I was crazy “Once yes, but it’s been a really long time since then.”

“What happened?”

“She was killed in an accident” he shrugged “Lucian was all I had left.”

I shook my head “I’m here” I stated.

He smiled lightly “Thanks, but Lucian would only get mad if I corrupted you.”

“Corrupt me how?” I asked.

He smirked before standing up “Let’s save that for another time.”

“Hey, where are you going?”

“I should head back; I have some stuff I need to finish up.”

“Oh, well good luck.”

“Thanks” he walked away.

That was strange, yet somehow it made me feel a little better.

I stood up and headed back to my room.

Once I got the door open I looked over at a sleeping Violet cuddled up with Juliet.

More than anything I wanted that with Lucian.

I sighed before going through the pictures on my camera before stopping on a picture of the two love birds.

I knew right away that that was the picture I wanted to use.

Violet stood behind Juliet placing a kiss on her neck, one of her hands were at Juliet’s waist, while the other hand tugged at the bra strap closest to the camera. Juliet gripped Violet’s hair and extended her neck, as if about to receive a bite from a Vampire.

I saw love and affection in this picture.

Again, for the millionth time, I was jealous of Violet. I was jealous of what she had, all of it.

I changed my clothes before crawling into my bed.

My only wish, was to have dreams about Lucian again, hopefully these ones would be less violent, and a little more romantic.

Unfortunately knowing me all I would get is another nightmare.

I picked up my iPod and I put it on shuffle, making sure to listen to anything that wouldn’t make me sad.
