Such A Silly Game We Play

Leena is one of those goody-goody teenage girls who is obedient to her parents, maintains high grades in school, has an average social life, and zero night life. Even more, she's the usual shy-type, terrible at making new friends, and even more terrible when it comes to oh-so-cheesy relationships, which was surprisingly coming her way now.

With so many things on the line that could go wrong if she ever followed what she truly wants, will she ever have the guts to let it all out? Would the guy do the same? Or, would both of them just sit down and wait until some miracle happens?

37. We Know The Protocol

Jeff's Point of View

I woke up at about 5 am the following day. Brushed my teeth. Showered. Ate breakfast.

"Are you all packed up?", my dad asked.

"Yeah, just one more bag upstairs," I replied while eating a spoonful of Raisin Bran. From the second I went downstairs to eat, the house seemed more quiet then usual. Yes, it was still early in the morning, but I could see that my parents were pretty upset.

6:30 am. I was already placing my final bag inside my car when a huge, white SUV parked in front of our house. The passenger door opened, and I saw a girl waving at me.

"Hey handsome!", she called while walking towards me. Caroline.

"Hey," I said and hugged her.

"You ready?"

"Yeah, I'm just---,"

"Hi Caroline," my sister said as she stepped out of our front door. Mom, dad, and Marion followed her.

"Okay, Jeff. Here is your allowance. DO NOT spend it on unimportant things and please! Save. Save. Save," mom said while handing me a stuffed envelope.

"Thanks mom," I kissed her on the cheek, "Okay. So I guess, we have to go now?"

Marion ran and hugged my me. Well, my legs. "I still don't understand why you have to leave so early!", he shouted.

I look up to my whole family and the looked like they too were confused of why I really had to leave early. It wasn't my idea, it was Caroline's. She wanted the two off us to spend some time together before school started and we'd have to attend different classes. But to be honest, 1 whole week is just waaaay early.

Marion loosened his grip as I heard footsteps coming from my back. When I turned around, I saw John and Aries walking towards us. Crap. I could see the look on John's face.

"Hey there bro..." he paused for a while,  "just wanted to join the family in saying goodbye. Oh, Good morning!" He said to my parents, Cris and Marion. They all greeted him cheerfully.

"Hello there, CAROLINE." Yes, he emphasized her name, looked away from her, and looked towards me with his eyes wide open.

"Gee," Aries said, "I didn't know you guys were going together. ON THE SAME DAY!" He did the same.

"Caroline just wanted to roam the campus before school starts," I said.

"Oh, did she?" John replied sarcastically.

Caroline started to look pissed. "I thought it would be easier to do it if there were less people around," she finally said.

"Oh, is it?" Aries replied back.

"Okay, can I just talk to you two inside?" I whispered to both of them.

"What!", John shouted, "Oh, no need! We all know the protocol. This just stays between the three of us. Don't worry, we'll try our best to shut our mouths from telling what really is happening RIGHT NOW."

By this point, everyone was just looking at the three of us. I looked at mom and dad, they both looked worried. So I just quickly whispered, "Look, I know what both of you are thinking. But you don't understand---"

"Dude, you don't have to explain. We only went here to say goodbye," John replied.

Both of them stepped back so they stood beside Cris. Caroline was already saying goodbye and started walking towards the passenger door of my car.

"Wait, aren't you going to ride there?" I said while pointing to her SUV.

"Oh, no it's okay. My driver will just follow us, the SUV's just full with bags. I want to see you drive." She smiled.

"Oh, okay," I said and I immediately faced my family and my 2 friends, "Okay, so we should really be going now."

I hugged all of them quickly and went straight to my car. But as the moment I drove away from our house, I felt this heavy feeling inside of my chest. I stepped on the brakes for just a second as I looked back at them. I saw mom and dad talking to John and Aries. The two of them were nodding to whatever my dad was saying. I didn't even want to think about what my dad was telling them. But I'm pretty sure he was saying what I was about to say a while ago when John cut me off. Cris was just standing behind them, listening to every word my dad was saying, and Marion was already running inside the house.
