When everything's meant to be broken
I just want you to know who I am.

2. MAY 5TH: children’s day

I wake up a little bit later than usual. I’m still on spring break, which lasts from the first of May to the tenth. Today’s a national holiday. Children’s Day. When children all over the country skip school and receive presents.

It’s unfortunate that the term ‘children’ doesn’t apply to teenagers.

The first thing I do when I get out of bed is pull out my phone and check if I have any new texts, particularly from Aaron. Aaron is...a guy. We were in the same class in eighth grade(now I’m in ninth), and it’s been over an year since we’ve started exchanging texts.

I have four new messages. Yes. YES!

Me too. I stayed home all day yesterday:(

I get excited at the sad face. It feels we really have a chance at being a couple. Three months ago, Aaron asked me out on a date. We went to watch a movie, Avengers 2, right after midterms. A week after that, we went to a high school admissions seminar together.

But he hasn’t officially asked me to be his girlfriend. Yet.

It takes me five minutes to contrive a reply.

Same here.

So what’s up? Still at home?

My 12 year old LEGO-addict brother Jeremy was running around the living room with his newly assembled Star Wars microfighter.

I took a seat in the dining room and grabbed a bagel and a jar of cream cheese. Cream cheese and bagels are my life. I can’t live without them.

I went to the bathroom after eating and took a shower. That was when it happened. The fight.

I wasn’t at the scene of the crime at that time, but from what I’ve heard, Jeremy must have showed his new LEGO toy to my mother. But Jeremy wanted something more. He loved presents, especially big LEGOs that cost more than twenty dollars, and wanted to go to the local toy store to buy another toy. But Mom wouldn’t allow it. Jeremy, angry, said something along the lines of “I’m not thankful for the first present because you didn’t even buy it. Dad did.” That made Mom really mad and she wouldn’t accept Jeremy’s apology. She didn’t speak to Jeremy for the whole day.

There’s a park right outside my apartment building, and that park leads to the Han River. My dad said, in honor of Children’s Day, we should go ride our bikes at the river.

And so we did. Jeremy, me, and Dad spent the whole morning riding our bikes. After four hours, we rode back home because Dad had work to do at the University where he teaches.

Mom was still angry. Enraged, more like. She gave even me the silent treatment the whole day. She didn’t speak during lunch, dinner, or before going to bed.

The rest of the day passed without any major events. Mom and Jeremy each took a long nap, and I worked on Science for a little bit until I turned on my computer and searched for Infinite music videos and imagines. Infinite is a Korean boyband made up of seven members: Sungkyu, Sungyeol, Dongwoo, Woohyun, L, Sungjong, and Hoya. I like Woohyun the best. It was because of Aaron that I started listening to Infinite songs. It’s a long story.

After dinner, I did some vacation homework(writing letters for Parent’s Day and Teacher’s Day-there are A LOT of holidays in May). Mom went to the local supermarket, alone. Any other day she would have asked if Jeremy and I wanted to go. But today, she left soundlessly. It shows how angry she was.

I played with my phone a bit before bed. Aaron told me that he was out buying soccer cleats for his younger brother.

ME: Oh, does your brother like soccer?

HIM: Yeah. He likes pretty much every sport there is.

ME: Wow. My brother hates sports lol.

HIM: Your brother and my brother are opposites haha.

Jeremy came into my room and told me that he had nowhere to sleep. Jeremy usually slept in Mom’s room, but since she was still mad at him, he was technically homeless. Or roomless.

Jeremy was one second away from bursting into tears, so I walked over to him and hugged him tight. Then I told him that he could sleep in my room.

I really hope that my mom makes up with Jeremy.
