Luke Hemmings. What more is there to say about a childhood best friend who forgot you?

9. Chapter Nine

Mia's POV

I shot up out of my seat right after the band stopped playing "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" by Green Day. I started clapping ridiculously.

"That was sooo good!" I shouted.

Then, as if something had overcome me, I turned to Luke.

"Your voice is amazing!"

I watched as his face turned a shade of red. I became embarrassed as well, upon realizing what I had just said. I stared down at the floor. There was a moment of silence for a few seconds.

Then, one of Luke's band mates spoke up. He was the one who played bass.

"Well, since we haven't been properly introduced to each other, I think now is the perfect time."

He glanced over at Luke and Ashton, who both shrugged.

"First of all, our band is called 5 Seconds of Summer. We're not to popular, but we've snagged a few gigs here and there. Also, I'm Calum." He continued, flashing us a smile.

I smiled back.

He had black hair that swooped over his forehead, similar to Luke's, and he had really pretty chocolate eyes.

Then, I turned my head to the other boy. He, by far, had the most crazy hair in the band. It was a simple blonde but he had a full-out fringe. He played guitar, just like Luke.

"I'm Michael. And who are you guys?" He asked.

I realized he was talking to me and Alexis.

I started to open my mouth, but I was too slow.

"Well, I'm Alexis, and this is Mia." She said, gesturing towards me.

"We saw you guys going into Luke's house and we thought it looked like fun, so we decided to stop by."

Ashton spoke next. I noticed he played the drums.

"Oh, is that so?" He asked with a smirk.

"Yes.." She said slowly. I could tell she was unsure as to what he was going to say next.

"Man, that stinks. I was hoping that you were going to say that you came over just to get to know me." He whined.

I giggled at how clear it was that he was flirting with her.

"Uh..Yea..." She said while blushing, which she hardly ever did.

It was funny to see her this out of her element.

"Does anyone want food?" Michael asked, butting into the conversation. "I'm hungry!"

Calum laughed before adding, "You're always hungry!"

"I know, but I can't help the fact that I love food and food loves me!"

With that, he set his guitar down and marched upstairs, along with Calum and Ashton.

I watched as Alexis scrambled after them. I could tell it was so she could get closer to Ashton.

I giggled at how head over heels she was.

Then, I realized me and Luke were the only ones left. I should have just gone upstairs with the others, but by the time it occurred to me to do it, I realized I would just looked awkward due to the time gap. The others had gone up about 2 minutes earlier.

Wow. This is just my luck...

I watched Luke for a couple of minutes as he unplugged his guitar from it's amp and set it down on a stand.

Then he turned to face me.

"So you really think we're good, eh?" He said, half smiling.

"Most defiantly!" I replied, grinning back.

Well this is going better then I envisioned.

"Well, believe it or not, but you and Alexis are some of the only people who have actually seen us play."

I was surprised. They were really good!

"Well in that case, I'm honored."

"So, you're into rock bands?"

"Yeah." I said smoothly.

"Wow. That's really cool. I have to say though, of of all the people in the world, I would have never guessed that you would be a fan of that kind of music." He laughed

I blushed. "Yeah, most people don't know that about me. It's pretty much one of the only secrets I have that no one else knows. Only the people I am really close with are in on it."

I paused after I said that last part and I watched as a small smile spread across Luke's face.

He looked really hot when he smiled.

"Oh really?" He smirked. "Does that mean that you and I are 'close'?"

I stammered. "Uh..well...um.."

I was cut off by a scream from Calum upstairs.

"Ash! Noooo! I was going to eat that!"

Luke quickly gave me an apologetic look and then dashed upstairs. I followed because I wanted to see what the big fuss was.

As I entered Luke's kitchen, I saw that Ashton and Calum were wrestling on the ground over a piece of pizza that was sitting on the counter.

Alexis and Michael were watching while laughing at the sight.

Then, I looked over to Luke who was slowly inching his arm towards the slice sitting on the counter. He put his finger to his lips when he noticed I was watching him.

I put my hand over my mouth to prevent myself from laughing. I had forgotten how funny he was.

Then, in one swift move, he snatched the pizza and scarfed it down in three bites.

"There. Problem solved." He said grinning as Ashton and Calum got up.

They both stared at him with looks of disgust as Alexis, Michael, and I cracked up.

Ashton turned to Alexis.

"Hey, I thought you were on my side." He pouted.

She giggled. "Aww, sorry. Did I hurt your feelings?" She joked. "I promise I will make it up to you."

Ashton raised his eyebrows. "Oh really? Well then, how about you go on a date with me, on Friday at seven. I already know where you live, so I'll just pick you up. How does that sound?"

Alexis blushed for the second time that night as she nodded her head.

"I look forward to it!" She told him.

I was so happy for her!

Then, I checked my phone. It was already 10:30 and my parents had been looking for me.

I spoke up.

"Hey, I don't mean to ruin a perfectly good night but we have to go. Our parents are looking for us."

I looked at Luke who was frowning.

"Sorry guys, but me and Lex need are beauty sleep!" I joked

"Catch you later then?" Calum asked.

"Totally!" I responded.

Alexis went up to hug Ashton goodbye as Luke walked me out the door.

"Well, bye for now..." I said slowly turning.

"Wait!" He yelled. "What's your number?"

I smiled as he took out is phone and handed it to me. I punched in my number.

Once I was done, I looked him in the eye. I was standing on his front porch and he was holding the door open from inside.

"Goodnight Lucy!" I whispered to him. I used to call him Lucy when we were little. We both had nicknames for each other that were based off of names for the other gender. It was our special thing.

I quickly realized he probably wouldn't get it because he didn't remember our friendship from when we were little, much less the fact that his nickname used to be Lucy. He probably thought I was crazy.

I opened my mouth to take it back, but he spoke up first.

"Goodnight, Miles." He said with a smile that made my heart melt. He then shut the door.

Did he just say what I think he did?

Miles used to be his nickname for me.
