Luke Hemmings. What more is there to say about a childhood best friend who forgot you?

14. Chapter Fourteen

Luke's POV

After school was over, I raced outside to the flagpole at the front of the building. It was the spot that I agreed to meet Mia at. As I waited, I leaned up against it and checked my phone. I saw that I had a new twitter notification.

"Savannah Lobdell would like to follow you."

I groaned. Couldn't this girl see I wasn't interested? I reluctantly accepted, but I was kind of mad that I hadn't just denied the follow request in the first place. I guess that I had just kind of felt bad for her. I mean, after all, the girl seemed desperate. I chuckled under my breath thinking about how I had never really been a ladies man until now. It was kind of weird, but I had to admit, I liked the attention. I was taken out of my thought when I heard a familiar voice behind me.

"Hey." Mia said. I turned around to face her.

"Hi, erm, do you want to go somewhere, uh, ya know, more private?" I asked. I didn't think that the front of the building where every kid in the whole school was seemed like the ideal location to have a one-on-one conversation.

"Um, sure!" She smiled back at me. "Where do you want to go?"

"Just follow me. I have the perfect spot!" I shouted while grabbing her wrist to drag her along.

"Woah, calm down!" She said while laughing. I just kept pulling her along.

After awhile, we finally got to the location. I was the hiding spot we used to go to when we were kids. It was really pretty and private. It was in a patch of trees that had branches that hung down over each other, forming a green canopy. We had also hauled a stoned bench there when we were little so we could have a place to sit. I remember we would talk for hours upon hours and the whole rest of the world wold be blocked out. It was truly a magical plac.

I turned to look at Mia and she was just standing there with her mouth hanging open. I could tell she was beyond happy.

"Do you recall coming to this place when we were younger?" I joked. She looked at me like I was crazy.

"Of course I do!" She responded with a completely serious face. I smiled at how cute she looked. I could just stare at her forever and I would never get bored.

"So, we should really talk...." She said while sitting down on the stone bench. I quickly sat down next to her.

"Yeah, we really should." I replied, looking down only to notice our hands were only inches apart. I quickly looked back up to meet her gaze.

"Luke? What ARE we? I'm so confused. One minute you kiss me and you lash out at my friend's boyfriend in order to keep him away from me, and the next your flirting with some other girl. I don't get it."

I was taken aback by her words. "Flirting with some other girl? I never even talked to...." I paused once I realized she must have been talking about Savannah.

"Do you mean that annoying girl Savannah?" I asked her with a complete look of seriousness. "I don't even know how you knew she talked to me, but I don't even like her. In fact, I find her completely irritating. She wouldn't leave me alone. Trust me, you have no reason to be worried about her taking me way." I said with a chuckle.

Mia's face softened. "Really?" She questioned in order to confirm what I had just said. "Really." I replied to ensure her. It made my heart speed up knowing that she was worried of losing me, since all these years it had been the other way around. I always thought that one day some amazing guy would come along and sweep her off her feet and I would vanish from the picture. Thankfully, that wasn't the case.

We sat in silence for a few minutes, just enjoying each other's company until I spoke up.

:"So how DID you know that Savannah had talked to me?" I was really curious to find out. Mia just giggled.

"Oh, right. Well, she's one of my friends and she was telling me all about how she saw this really cute guy named Luke and then she went on to describe you. The only reason that I got jealous was because the way she told me the story sounded like you came onto her and no the other way around."

I cringed at that last part. That had to be some kind of a joke. I mean, Savannah didn't even come close in comparison with Mia. I mean, sure, she was pretty, but she wasn't my type. I quickly grabbed Mia's hand and looked her in the eyes.

"Mia, trust me when I say this. There is no one I would rather be with than you. You are too perfect for me to let slip through my fingertips. I did it once and I am so thankful I even got a second chance, so I'm sure as hell not going to let you go again." I looked deep into her eyes. Then, without warning, she leaned in and kissed me.

It was as if all time had stopped. It was just her and I. Our lips moved in sync for awhile until I pressed my tongue against her lower lip, begging for entrance. She quickly accepted and our tongues fought for dominance. I won.

We stayed like that for what seemed like forever until she finally pulled away. I noticed her lips were swollen a bit. I smiled.

"So, does this mean you'll be my girlfriend?" I shyly asked Mia. I was a little nervous she would say no for god knows what reason.

"Of course. Luke Hemmings, as of now, you are my boyfriend." She smiled at me, gripping my hands in hers.

"And Mia Bruley, as of now, you are my girlfriend." The words felt so right rolling off of my tongue.

She's my girlfriend. I've been waiting for so long and it's finally happened.

I was so happy.

"Well, I've got to get heading home now." She said with a small frown on her face. "But before I go, we should make plans to hang out again, like grab pizza or go to the movies." She smiled.

"Sounds good to me!" I replied, nuzzling my head into the crook of her neck. "How about....tomorrow?"

Mia giggled, "Tomorrow it is."

With that, she pushed aside one of the branches that made up the canopy walls. She turned to face me.

"Goodbye for now, Lukey." She smiled.

"Goodbye Princess." I replied. I watched as her cheeks turned a vibrant shade of pink and she headed off, leaving me alone.

Finally, after years of trying, the most perfect girl in the world belonged to me, and only me. No one else.

It was the best feeling in the world. I let out a sigh and sat there thinking about how lucky I was to be able to call her mine.

Mia's POV

As I walked home, I couldn't shake the fact that Luke Hemmings was finally my boyfriend! After so many years of wishing he loved me, he finally was mine. He loved me and I loved him, and nothing else could get in the way of that.

Once I got home, I raced into my room to call Alexis. I had to fill her in on what had just happened between Luke and I. I called her up and she immediately answered.

"Hello?" She asked across the line.

"Alexis!" I shouted. "It finally happened! You need to come over! NOW!"

I heard her breathing rate start to speed up.

I laughed at how crazy she was acting before saying goodbye and hanging up.

Everything was great in my life. The only issue was that Savannah was probably going to be upset with the fact that the guy she liked was now my boyfriend. I'm sure she will get over it. After all, she does go through guys like crazy. Hopefully, she wouldn't be too upset.

However, there was still a slight nervousness inside me, since she really did seem to like Luke. I am her friend though, and I think she will understand, or at least I'm pretty sure she will.

I still was a little bit worried, but all my anxious thoughts were put aside when I heard Alexis knock on the door. Now was the time to celebrate after the many years of waiting for this day to come.
