8. Chapter 8 : Days Off

Luke's POV

We had two days off before our show. Which was great, we really need a break.

"So what do you wanna do?" Ash asked in the bed next to me.

We shared a room together and Mike and Cal got bunked together.

"I dunno. I was thinking of going to the bar downtown, maybe?"

"Yea, I'm up for it. Do you think Calum will go?"

"Calum is the partier of the band, he's definitely going."

"Point taken, but I promised Helen I wouldn't let him do stupid shit."

"Just because Calum has a girlfriend doesn't mean he can't go have a couple of drinks at a bar," I replied.

"Yea you're right. Let's go tell the guys."

We got off our beds and went out the door to the other guys room.

Ash knocked on the door once we arrived.

Michael opened the door and left it open as he went about his business.

We stepped inside and closed the door behind us.

"So Luke and I were thinking of going to the bar. You up for it?"

"Yea, I'm game," Michael calls.

"What about you Cal?" I ask.

He looked unsure.

"C'mon Cal, it's not like we're gonna force you to sleep with a random girl you find. Like you said, a couple of drinks never killed anyone," I said.

He sighed, "Sure, why not? Won't get too drunk." He smiled and that old Cal was back.

We started making the plans.

I ran my fingers through my hair as we sat in the car.

We were on our way to the bar.

We waited 'til after the sun went down because the nightlife was one of the best things.

It brought out the weird inside of everyone.

We arrived at the bar and we got out.

After standing in the queue for about 20 minutes the security guard finally waved us in.

We hurried inside.

The club was called 'Wicked'

Music blared from the surround system. I could feel the deep bass on the floor and in my chest.

The dance floor was crowded with sweaty bodies as the milled around and moved to the rhythm of the music.

Everything was tinted in red. The fluorescent lights above occasionally changed from red to purple, blue, green, and yellow.

I knew we had to be careful with what we did.

One time I found a picture of me eating a bagel with Michael in a cafe.

The fam is literally everywhere. And they could have insiders wherever we go. We tried to not be reckless, but we're still teenagers learning from out mistakes.

I looked to my left and saw two girls carrying their drunken friend down the black velvet stairs. They all wore relatively short dresses and heels so high, it hurt my feet.

They had come down from the VIP room. It had a view of the dance floor and was on the second level of the building.

The specially made walls muffled out the blaring noise of the music.

Usually the rich people that can afford it, go up in there and sip their fancy alcohol from their glasses.

We made our way to the bar.

I finger-drummed on the smooth black granite counter top.

"How can I help you?"

I looked up and a girl with brunette hair stood in front of us. She was wiping her hands on a small white rag.

"Can we get 4 Corona beers, please" Michael requested.

"Sure thing, red-head," She said before turning her back on us.

Seconds later, she came back and set a bottle of beer in front of me. We thanked her.

We clinked our bottles together before bringing  the glass to our lips and taking a long and refreshing gulp of Corona.

And the night began.

Calum's POV

I set my empty bottle on the counter.

The bartender came back and took the bottle away before tossing it away.

"Thanks," I said.

"No problem."

"Do you wanna dance?"

I turned my head and saw a girl with dark hair standing in front of Ashton.

"Yea, sure!" He replied and she took his hand before dragging him on the dance floor.

We laughed because Ashton did not know how to dance.

Luke, Mike, and I ordered a round of shots.

We each had three shot glasses sitting in front of us.

I picked one up.

"Round 1," Luke said.

We cheered before pouring tequila down our throats.

I set the glass down before sucking on a lemon.

I repeated this two more times.

By the time we finished round 3, I was alone.

Luke got dragged to the dance floor by a girl and Michael was in the bathroom.

Suddenly the bartender set a champagne glass in front of me. It was filled to the top with a red liquid.

"I didn't order that," I said and furrowed my eyebrows.

"It's from the girl over there," She sneakily pointed to a girl who had her back turned to us.

She had blonde hair and was tapping her fingernails on the granite counter top.

I turned away from her and stared at the drink.

"What's in it?" I asked.

"Vodka and a special mixture that gives it a strawberry taste," The bartender replied.

She went off to attend someone else.

I pushed the drink away.

If I drank it, it'd let her know I'm one of those desperate drunken dudes that are walking around looking for a helpless girl.

I've also seen a lot of movies, usually when the girl buys a guy a drink, everything goes bad. The guy ends up cheating on his wife/girlfriend and fucks the relationship up.

I certainly don't want to fuck my relationship up.

I was so caught up in my thoughts I didn't notice someone sit next to me.

"Not much of a drinker?" The girl asked.

I turned to look at her.

It was the one that bought me the drink.

Her lips were a crimson red and her eyes were almond shaped and dark.

I looked away before answering.

"I am, but not right now."

"Really? Cause those three shots of tequila tells another story."

I stayed quiet.

"What's wrong baby?" She pushed my hair from my forehead.

"Don't," I said and moved my head away from her touch.

She ignored my comment, "Hmm, judging from your accent, I suppose you're Australian. I've never had an Australian boyfriend."

"Well keep on looking," I said.

"Lighten up and have some fun. Don't be such a party killer."

"Look, I'm gonna stop right here before things get out of hand. I have a beautiful girlfriend back in Australia, that I love. And I don't want to lose her trust, I want to keep our relationship strong. So I suggest you use your lipstick on someone else," I said.

"Fine, but I'll leave you with this," She suddenly planted a kiss on my cheek before leaving.

I wiped my cheek with the sleeve of my flannel.

"What was that?" Michael asked.

"She bought me a drink," I replied and pointed to the glass in front of me.

"Did she hit on you?" He asked.

"Did you resist?"

"What kind of question is that? Of course I resisted and I turned her down before it could go any further."

"You really love Helen, huh?"

"I really do. Do you want the drink?" I asked and pushed it towards him.

"Why not?" She sipped the liquid. "Tastes like strawberry, but it's good."

I laughed and the night went on.

I found myself standing outside the bar.

We'd be leaving in a couple of minutes, but I wanted some fresh air.

I looked up at the night sky. Stars were spread across. Some brighter than others and that told me they were planets.

It was a crescent moon kind of night.

Is Helen looking at the stars as I am right now?

I checked the time.

Of course she isn't, it's daytime in Australia.

I looked up at the sky once more.

"I'm coming home soon, beautiful. Don't give up on us because I love you. I'm keeping my promise, I hope you're keeping yours."
